_Th got a reaction from JoshB in Disgusting pricing
🥱Been posted and addressed over and over.
Clearly, you should just buy (sorry, rent) the Adobe suite.
They aren't greedy and you'll save a ton of money.

🤣 All this whining over the pricing just cracks me up. And really misses the point...
The truth is Serif should pay me to use their software!
After all, I'm investing my time, using my hard drive space, consuming my electricity ... I could go on and on. Seriously(not), why should I have paid even the ridiculous give-away price I did for the v1 software since it wasn't absolutely perfect? And why should I pay another ridiculously-low price for the seriously-upgraded and still not absolutely perfect software? I mean $99 USD for all three apps available to me on all three platforms? C'mon! Look, I don't have to take this! Ad0be is having a sale! I can just go other there and plop down $480 bucks for an entire year! OK, I'm a little short on funds, so I'll just pay the $82 a month. 'Cause ... math. And when I stop paying for that software, it'll still work fine, I just won't get any updates. Am I right or what?!
</sarcasm>
OK, sorry. Silly rant over. It's just frustrating because the Affinity suite is the best alternative to Goliath and their hideous subscription model, and it's dirt cheap no matter how you slice it.
That said, Serif must improve certain things if they want to continue to grow and/or remain competitive. This is the golden hour, the absolute best time for them to gain (and keep) serious market share, something I think we all want to happen. Pricing (new or upgrade) is not the issue for them, or us. It is getting the basics right. This forum and the V1 forum are full of examples of the basics being missed. I am a huge supporter, and I want very much to see this endeavor succeed. However, the vitriol many hold towards Ad0be means the field is wide open for someone to step in with a more solid offering. For me, I'm cheering on the Serif team and hoping they'll be the ones to slay the giant.
Cheers.

Windows 7 is almost three years out of support, you cannot expect software to keep being compatible.

This [overprint colors issue] is a huge, glaring omission.
And one that I didn't realize existed. (Clearly, I haven't been using Affinity software for commercial printing.) For reference, I have been involved in print design for many years and have designed everything from newspaper ads to books with enormous print runs on offset, web and digital. I have traveled across the country on multi-day press checks.
My affinity for Affinity is, in part, due to my loathing for Adobe and their rental model. I imagine this is true for many of the folks here. I have happily supported and promoted Affinity/Serif for offering a "viable alternative" to Adobe. But I may have to rethink this as this alone makes the software non-viable for anyone involved in print. Having to create multiple versions of the same color to have it overprint is ludicrous makes for a completely unworkable workflow. Overprinting should always be available to set on the object level. Always. Period.
Serif/Affinity Team...
Please take this seriously. We are all rooting for you to be David in a Goliath industry. If you don't get these absolute basics right, you will never have the commercial success that you, and us, want you to have.

Apple and most companies are doing the same thing. I don't know why this is a problem. It's a marketing strategy, and not manipulative at all. The choice is yours. They provide the software, you decide if you are interested or not. Apple, Microsoft, Adobe, none of these companies are forcing anyone to use their products. If you believe their products are not worth your money, they can do nothing about that. They can't force you at all to invest.
How people miss this, is utterly astounding.

There is no compulsion to buy V2. V1 still works.

_Th reacted to Granddaddy in Serif, fire your Affinity 2.0 interface designers.
Let us not be too hasty when calling for people to be fired. Remember that someone chose and hired the designers, approved their designs, signed off on their work, and got the designs included in the Affinity code base.
When I was young I thought that some employees in my organization should be fired for various errors or inabilities. As I progressed into management of larger groups, I learned otherwise.
I eventually realized that management is always the problem when things do not go well.
A manager's purpose is to make it possible for his subordinates to succeed in their work. Why else would we need managers? Of what use could they possibly be otherwise?
Managers assign tasks to appropriate workers, evaluate that work, and explain to the worker why it is or is not acceptable. If it is not acceptable, the manager explains what must be done to make it acceptable. A manager identifies a worker's abilities and assigns him to jobs where he can succeed. He arranges for the worker to get the training he needs to succeed in his assignments.
As a manager for nearly 40 years, I am most proud of extricating a worker (a college dropout) from a menial clerical position in another department, installing him as a programmer in my department, and rallying my other employees to contribute to his work designing and implementing the system we had conceived to support the users of our services.
After a couple of years he had succeeded beyond our wildest dreams. He left our organization to found his own company, taking a few other employees with him. As president and CEO of his own company over the past 25 years, he now employs 32 people, including several software engineers. designers, and user support and training specialists for his several innovative software products. I helped him move on by assuring that he retained the intellectual property rights to the software he developed while working in my department.
So, I think that firing workers is a last resort and quite often the result of poor management decisions. Managers and the managers of managers might need to reassess their work as managers.
In the case of the regression in the Affinity user interface we might ask:
Who wrote the specifications for the Affinity 2 interface redesign? What were the goals? What were the principles to be followed? How was success to be measured?
Who chose the designers and explained their jobs to them?
Who provided feedback as the work proceeded?
Who approved and signed off on the Affinity 2 interface design as it was delivered? Did it fulfill the original expectations?
What is senior management doing to ensure success in fixing the problems and preventing similar problems in the future?

You title your post, "Disgusting Pricing", state that I clearly "can't read" and then refer to my obviously tongue-in-cheek reply (re: Adobe and greed) as "toxic".
Priceless.
Most here want to engage in positive, productive dialog—not bash others through a childish, entitlement attitude. Affinity offers solid, though not perfect, software at very reasonable prices. If you want to contribute to the non-Adobe movement, a more humble approach would help.

Actually I do not agree with the author of this topic.
I used to be surprised that such a wonderful and complex software like Affinity Photo could cost $50 for a program. It's too cheap.
The same Photoshop, when it was not a subscription, cost several hundred dollars.
Therefore, when the cost was increased a little, it became more relevant to the features and functions that Affinity provides.
Remember also that Serif is a business, not a charity. The company has its own rising costs. Also consider what is going on in the world.
The dollar, pound and euro have depreciated heavily over the past year. Inflation is about 10%.
So if all this is put together in a place, then the price offer of Affinti products is very generous and worthy.
P.S. For example, only one program Capture One (RAW converter) costs $300. And it has much narrower functionality.

Dear Affinity Team,
At the beginning I was a bit disappointed by Affinity Suite 2.0, as everyone expected the implementation of their personal wishes. The changeover was not entirely smooth either, I had to make some presettings by hand and my workspace had completely disappeared. But: I created the first brochure and other things in versions 2.0 on the Mac and am thrilled by many functions, some of which are not documented at all. So a big THANK YOU for the great work and the good price. Keep it up!

I TOTALLY FEEL ya! Photoshop has been frictionless for a long time, and it's really difficult to use Affinity products and not keep running into these annoying unpolished bits, whether it's an unintuitive workflow issue, or some software glitch, like how I'm trying to figure out why painting on a mask layer using the "Color" tab frequently get's stuck on black-only (hence the reason I'm here, searching for a solution! ).
I'm of the current mindset to be cautiously optimistic that they will get around to the polishing. During the v1 launch in 2015 I dove right in, and it was a barely-useable mess (Photo I mean, Designer I've been pretty happy with mostly) that I abandoned after I tried to actually use it in my design pipeline for client work. I'm seeing the same pattern play out again here with the v2 launch. They really do need to allocate some people resources and get senior-level Photoshop users to meticulously go through the workflow or real projects and find-and-fix all the issues, along with the use of the forum's help and the legacy problems we've all been pointing out for years.
Since I've gotten off the PS train this winter, I'm definitely personally invested in seeing Affinity succeed, and willing to help.
