_Th got a reaction from davidpwrmc in Total Disregard for the Printing Industry
This [overprint colors issue] is a huge, glaring omission.
And one that I didn't realize existed. (Clearly, I haven't been using Affinity software for commercial printing.) For reference, I have been involved in print design for many years and have designed everything from newspaper ads to books with enormous print runs on offset, web and digital. I have traveled across the country on multi-day press checks.
My affinity for Affinity is, in part, due to my loathing for Adobe and their rental model. I imagine this is true for many of the folks here. I have happily supported and promoted Affinity/Serif for offering a "viable alternative" to Adobe. But I may have to rethink this as this alone makes the software non-viable for anyone involved in print. Having to create multiple versions of the same color to have it overprint is ludicrous makes for a completely unworkable workflow. Overprinting should always be available to set on the object level. Always. Period.
Serif/Affinity Team...
Please take this seriously. We are all rooting for you to be David in a Goliath industry. If you don't get these absolute basics right, you will never have the commercial success that you, and us, want you to have.

You're right, it's David vs. Goliath to be sure. (Then again, that battle didn't turn out as most would have expected.) Back in the day, the thought that anything could replace Quark XPress was laughable. And yet, almost overnight... So, hope springs eternal. With Adobe's absurd pricing model, I for one am extremely glad to have this "substantial alternative" and no longer be held hostage to monthly rental fees.

Kudos. A very gracious reply to a very non-gracious post. Well done.

It's the same on Mac.
In fact, I just found out that contrary to my earlier (false) claim somewhere in the forum, the new Export window actually does support tabbing all of its UI elements:
System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Keyboard > make sure "Change the way Tab moves focus" is active and has a shortcut > use the shortcut to toggle the Tab key behavior – which is also shortcut to the "Use keyboard navigation […]" check box.
(That's on Catalina, your mileage may vary on newer MacOS) Exactly.

I prefer the drop down menu as I can change the type of file either with the up/down arrow keys or, better still, by typing the first letter or two of the type you want.
So if I last exported as SVG but want a PSD, I just type P S ... and PSD is selected. (This is on Windows; don't know about the other platforms.) Couldn't do that on v1.
I'm a keyboard shortcut junkie, so it's actually a huge improvement for me.

I'm guessing you, like me, may possess the vanishing skills needed to drive a stick shift, read (and fold!) a map and tell the time on an analog clock.

I'm so old I can write cursive, hold a conversation, change a washer, recite a prayer, drink at lunch, light a smoke, roll a joint, crack jokes and offend everyone.

When I started, we used blue pencils and turned clips of paper over to roll melted wax over them so they would stay in place when they were placed on a sheet. And transfer letters. And black tape in different widths, plus some clear tape imprinted with dashed lines so you could make coupons.
And I vaguely remember doing a flyer or two in The Print Shop on an Apple IIe which could then only be printed on a dot matrix printer so the dpi was very very low.

🥱Been posted and addressed over and over.
Clearly, you should just buy (sorry, rent) the Adobe suite.
They aren't greedy and you'll save a ton of money.

I'd click "Like" but I already exhausted my daily quota. 😅
What's a fella got to do for a quota upgrade around here?

@md_berlin Much needed thank you message. The team is made up of real people, and a word of gratitude goes a long way to encouraging them. (I am not affiliated with Serif/Affinity, just trying to be respectful for their efforts.)

If the new prices are too high for you, then the solution is simple - do not buy. I don't think Serif will suddenly hear you and magically lower prices. They have already counted and decided.
Buy an Adobe subscription and stay on the subscription for a couple of years. Then you will understand exactly what is really "too expensive and not profitable".
P.S. You can just use the first version of Affinity.
