I certainly understand your expectations here, but this simply isn't possible when users have purchased the Affinity apps from external stores, such as the Mac App Store or the Microsoft App Store, and when we first began selling the mac app, it was only available from the Mac App Store - so it would be unfair to offer this to customers from the Affinity Store and not customers from the external stores, therefore it isn't a service we offer currently.

Our license agreement has always been clear that licenses are per platform, I'm sorry for any inconvenience or annoyance this causes.

I am aware of the license agreement. Just frustrated.

I see where serifs issue lies, but from a purely consumer standpoint I don't think this is a great position to be in. Nobody is going to be happy that their new MacBook can't run the software that they have purchased previously. I understand why etc etc. But I disagree with it on principle, I don't think the average person cares what OS they use for work, and it should be looked at.

I also noticed people saying you can use the licence on as many devices as you like on that OS. However I don't see who this is helping. Maybe businesses who are buying one licence and logging everyone in on the same email address?

  2. This is evidently a fanboys club where affinity can do no wrong.

Just because adobe is worse doesn't make this situation ok.

The Affinity .exe files are Windows executables and so they only work on Windows

everybody knows this. my point is that its locked to windows even though I have paid for a liscence. all I want to do is transfer my defunct, unused licence. to an os I have access to.

If you want “100% equivalency and compatibility” with a certain application then you should probably be using that application – if it does exactly what you need then use that.
Expecting “100% equivalency and compatibility” from two different products from two different companies is not a fair expectation, for various reasons.

    This is a weak argument.

If you are aggrieved by the perpetual licencing for a certain other company’s application(s) then I would suggest that you should probably complain to the company which forces you into that perpetual licencing model.

Serif are very fair to their customers; you only pay for what you need and you only pay once per major update.

Clearly I am attempting to do just this... I want to take my money elsewhere. I think the adobe model is inflexible and extortionate. I thought I could find suitable alternatives here and use this alongside adobe until it is in a state where my workflow can be accommodated solely by this software. and I think the pricing model is reasonable as like you say you pay for what you use... but I can no longer use the liscence I paid for. therefore there is no harm in my account having the windows licence removed and a Mac OS licence added.

Also... why would I purchase from serif when they release a major update, If they have not looked after me as a customer during 'this' update... My case is a fringe case, not that many people are swapping back and forth between OS every day that this could be a major problem to fix. I would rather have happy customers that will be willing to purchase the next update than just giving bad customer service because fanboy forum users will back me up.

The most irritating thing about this is that I expected no kickback at all when emailing customer service. As I think any customer with a query like this would. The expected response to "Hi company, I think this is a bit of a hassle, but could you please transfer my current licence from Windows to Mac OS?" is = "yes, no problem, we are happy to accommodate our customers, thank you for your loyalty. We hope you stick around for the next major update, we think you will love what we have planned."

This situation just makes me facepalm so hard.

  3. I agree with OP. Just bumped into this problem myself. Bought a MacBook Pro, booted up, downloaded all my software, and guess what. All my apps work except Serifs .exe files.

I spoke with support and was told this same thing. Totally not acceptable, I have paid already!

I think the thing that serif need to understand is that most of their customers still have the adobe licence that they 'must' pay for in order to operate their business. My purchase was based on supporting competition in the industry and growing frustration with adobe's costs. However I, like many others still must pay those costs until 100% equivalency and compatibility with the industry standard is met.

Perhaps Serif is the wrong company to provide the competition to adobe, already signs of poor customer support before they have even made a dent in adobe.
