What kind of keyboard do you use, and what language do you have set for your system?
Did you have to make any modifications to those other shortcuts to get them to work? (Users with non-English keyboards often have to redefine shortcuts using [ or ] before they work.)

Raptosauru5 got a reaction from debraspicher in New Artboard will take in non-Artboard content
I have plenty of Artboards for the App UI project and I also have some folders just to contain stuff that is not on Artboards, like Screenshots...

But it keeps happening to me, that when I manually create new Artboard, the Screenshots Group will get automatically added to that new Artboard. I understand that this is happening because my Screenshots are all over the place and I am creating the Artboard inside their common bounding box.
Here is a demonstration: artboards issue.mkv
And my test file: artboards issue.afdesign
Even though technically this makes kind of sense. I would expect this to only happen if I would draw the Artboard over an existing object. I do not however believe that this is an intended behaviour with group bounding box, so I am reporting it as a bug.

Raptosauru5 reacted to MikeTO in DPI change in Document Setup messes up the Text Styles
Sorry, I assumed you were using Publisher.
From your Document Setup screenshot I can see that you're using an artboard and I think this is related to that but I don't know enough to answer properly.
If you weren't using an artboard, changing DPI with "Anchor to Page" selected would not change the text size. Changing DPI with "Rescale" selected will result in the text style text size being redefined and then the size being overridden back to what it was. This doesn't seem right so maybe there is a bug there.
When using an artboard, Anchor to Page/Rescale are disabled and although it looks like Anchor to Page is selected, it operates more like Rescale is selected so the same thing happens, the text style text size is redefined and then the size is overridden back to what it was.
Serif may have to review this if somebody else doesn't have a better answer.
    Good luck

Raptosauru5 reacted to MikeTO in Actual Text Size discrepancy with Ruler dimensions
Affinity measures type size the same way every other program but the size of type varies between fonts. For example, all of these letters are the same size but their heights look quite different.

The font designer can choose how much space a character takes up. Without getting all technical, apps don't scale the characters to a specific physical size but instead scale the enclosing space. The font designer can go above or below the lines shown in the great reference diagram earlier in this thread.
if you really want some text to be exactly 1 inch tall, create it as Art Text and then convert it to curves. Then scale it as required because it will now be a path and you can control the physical size.

Raptosauru5 got a reaction from Peter Panino in Snapping to pre-defined dimensions
As UI/UX designer I am often using same set of dimensions across my layout.
Pretty much always they are multiples of 4 but I am also scaling my dimensions in golden ratio (4, 8, 16, 24, 40, 64, 104...).
It would be GREAT if I could pre-define my favourite numbers in the Snapping options, so that snapping would favour these numbers (and indicate with colour that it did) when moving objects to achieve precise distances!
(Transform window could have similar feature)
    Thanks for feature consideration!

There is an ingenious cool feature in other software (unfortunately developed by some evil, greedy corporation you should avoid), called the "Bird's eye view". Nobody really talks/knows about this feature much, but it is really cool!

Here is an article about how it works: https://www.photoshopessentials.com/basics/photoshop-birds-eye-view-tutorial/
Basically, when in Hand tool, you hold the H + LeftMouse and the view zooms out to show your whole document. Then you can move your cursor somewhere else and release the keys and it will drop you right there with the previous zoom level.
This allow you to "eject to the skies and land somewhere else like Iron Man" very quickly! This would be extremely handy when working on UI design, where I often need to compare/copy many different Artboards' elements!
I think in Affinity this could work even with a Spacebar + MiddleMouseClick shortcut (or RightMouse for Mac users), because so far this combo does not do anything anyways!
So far I am using the Navigator to move around, which is great, but the Bird's eye view would be faster to work with.

Thanks for consideration. You guys are doing amazing job with Affinity!

Raptosauru5 got a reaction from Dan C in Snapping options could include "Ignore other Artboards" toggle
When the Snapping Candidates is set to "All layers" (but not neccesserily), the Snapping happens across Artboards, which might be causing significant performance drops (especially when working with Text, for some reason).

As an App UI designer, I currently have around 50 artboards (both vertically and horizontally aligned) and the Snapping would sometimes choose to snap to some object very far away crossing multiple Artboards.
I think Snapping options should include "Ignore other Artboards" toggle, because I would keep it ON most of the time.
This could solve a lot of problems/confusions for the users.

    Thanks for consideration 😊

Yeah, I started with APh and AIl when I decided to be a graphics designer. Burned a lot of money and when I decided to cancel my annual subscription, they still fined me the remaining 6 months! Completely greedy, dick move by Adobe. I can't support that company for moral reasons and I do not want to build any dependency on any of their products. Now unfortunately they bought competition Figma and are now leaving it to die.
....ok, rant is over, I feel better now, that was a bit off-topic...
Anyway, the point is, Affinity is a complete blessing and I love these guys! That is why I am defending them so much. They are making this industry a better place

This is a request that Shortcuts be made searchable in Preferences.
I had hoped that as part of the "Something Big" launch of APhoto Version 2 we would see a useful Search function in the Preferences dialog box. Especially the Shortcuts should be searchable. It's a feature that has been requested for many years. The inability to search Shortcuts is especially frustrating when trying to create new shortcuts.
The need for this Search was discussed at some length 2-1/2 years ago in the thread athttps://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/110065-publisher-for-windows-18-using-preferencessearch/
    and
    https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/68413-preferences-window-ui-is-frustratingly-designed/
I reported this lack of searchability as a bug in APhoto Version 2
    https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/171185-search-box-in-preferences-does-nothing/
I now understand this lack of functionality is not considered a bug because the Search works as designed and coded. That's why I am now making this a feature request.

I'd like to emphasize the importance of this.
It is so difficult to find commands in the list I'd be procrastinating every new shortcut for some number of documents.
If not a search, a quickfix would be nice:
No categories are better than double layered categories.
    And a non-resizable settings-window is tough.
I'd be searching for a Command or a Key-combination. First in main category and than submenu, and I need to scroll each because the dialogue box is only 30% of my horizontal monitor size.

    +1,000 to that!
Works on Mac. For example, I use cmd-opt-1, cmd-opt-2, cmd-opt-3 etc. for personas, and ctrl-cmd-opt-1, ctrl-cmd-opt-2, ctrl-cmd-opt-3 for the Edit In… commands.
    F-keys work on Mac, too.
Perhaps. But even more important – and logical according to the Human Interface Guidelines – would be if the Symbol panel button commands would appear in the context menu when a symbol is selected on the canvas. (Same for many other buried panel buttons.)

So, I like to work FAST and efficient!
That is why I use shortcuts for everything possible, minimizing aiming and clicking on buttons with a mouse, which is way slower and interrupts the flow.

Now current shortcuts system is GREAT and I very appreciate it in it's current state, but there are couple of things I am missing and I believe users would appreciate.
I would like to list them all here in a single topic for a discussion (sorted by importance):

    1. Shortcuts in Settings need Search feature to search by both A: Function ("Show Rulers"), B: Keystroke ("Ctrl+R").
    2. Shortcuts in Settings should have Mouse Buttons support! To speed up flow and avoiding to reach to the other side of my keyboard with my right hand for brackets [ ], I created a macro for my mouse which will emulate brackets press [ ] when pressing Back and Forward mouse buttons. This works REALLY GOOD when organizing layouts! I think it should be a built-in feature, supporting ANY mouse buttons (there are very advanced mice out there with many extra buttons that could be very useful in Affinity suite. I am not talking about you, Magic Mouse, you carpal tunneler). The point here is that the right hand can stay on the mouse, so most common keystrokes should require left hand on the keyboard only.
    3. Shortcuts in Settings could have secondary field for alternative keystroke (like in videogames).
    4. Like in Blender (3D software), Right-clicking on buttons could reveal a small menu, which lets you define a shortcut right away, even if this button does not have a shortcut ability.

    5. Tooltips could display their shortcuts after the tool name (to help new users remember them and to make it easier to find for anyone).

    6. Some important things are missing a shortcut ability. F1, F2, F3 (or so) could be shortcuts for Personas. Symbols Sync button could use a shortcut too.

Thanks to amazing Affinity developers for considering these suggestions!
Please feel free to suggest more relevant productivity-improving keystrokes.

I suggested they change the icon to an anchor which more accurately describes the current behavior, and add a REAL LOCKING mechanism and another column on the Layer panel, not only the current Position-"lock" implemented. It really is a no-brainer, it boggles the mind there is no way to actually LOCK an object; hopefully they address this by 2.0... 🤞

    Thanks for helpful tips.
After Clean-reinstalling the Nvidia drivers the issue is gone! However, it came back as I set all my previous settings.
I tested the switches one by one.
Turns out the Vertical Sync set to Fast was the problem! Having it on Off or Application Controlled fixed the issue.
    Yay!
This was quite a process to find out. I have no idea how was I supposed to find out without actually toggling all the settings manually!  Apparently, I still do not fully understand how Vertical Sync works.
Thanks a lot for your patience @Dan C, your assistance was extremely helpful!
(You guys probably want to override this setting for Affinity products to prevent this from happening to other users. It makes this awesome software feel glitchy / unstable.)

    Hello Everyone,
I don't know if anyone already know this yet but I'll share it anyway. I'm using Affinity Designer 1.7
    1. Select everything you want to reverse the order
    2. Cut it (Ctrl + X)
    3. Enable "Insert behind the selection" or go to LAYER > INSERTION > BEHIND
    4. Paste it
You can see that the order of the objects are now reversed. :D
