  1. Hi @4dimage,

Many thanks for providing detail along with screenshots, following your workflow on both 10/11 has not re-produced this crash/freeze for me yet, i've used two text heavy document and after switching to the designer persona and dragging out the layers panel from it's original position (Same original panel grouping as your screenshot) the app remained functional.

Is this an issue that you're able to replicate since if you were to use two different/blank documents? If not, could you possibly provide me with the two files used in your example? I've provided a dropbox link below for any uploads.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Hi @Kája,

If the app is crashing from opening certain image files is then asking for the app to be repaired/reinstalled before launching again i've had some users resolve this problem by going through a full reset of the app to it's default settings (note: this will wipe any custom content currently installed on the three apps) by following the below:

    1. Close down all Affinity Apps
    2. From the start menu/desktop hold down CTRL and open Affinity Photo 2 whilst still holding CTRL
    3. This will prompt a 'Clear user Data' menu, tick 'Affinity Photo 2' and 'All Affinity 2 apps' to ensure all boxes are ticked (do not tick the deactivate box at the bottom)
    4. Press Clear, the app will now start, try and open any of your files which were previously causing an issue again.

It is quite unusual that you've found reducing the RAM limit allows images to be opened, though hopefully after following the above this won't be needed.

    1. I started to write it some years ago with Publisher version 1.x. The original is around 50 pages long and contains lots of pictures and pins, using several purchased fonts.
    2. I downloaded Publisher 2 from the Affinity website and just double-clicked the MSIX file, which installed the app (I think no install options were asked). I don't know what a 'standard MSIX install process' is, because prior to the Affinities, I never had MSIX packages before.
    3. I now have version 1 and version 2 on my PC, both of them running in parallel (apparently) without problems.
    4. The original 50-page file opened in Publisher 2 without problems, but the 'pin bug', as already experienced with version 1.x, still persisted with version 2, so I thought I should report it finally.
    5. Since the original document was too complex to upload, I took Publisher 2 to throw away all pictures, all pins except the problematic one, nearly all text styles, changed the font to Times New Roman and uploaded it as above.

I will try to recreate a new document out of the old one a second time in the next days, and try to create a new Affinity test installation on a different PC...

Thanks for confirming, when I mentioned the 'Standard install process' for the MSIX installer, I meant double clicking the installer file which you've evidently done. It would be interesting to see if you were to create a new blank pub document in V2 and go to Document > Add Pages from File and add in your pin bug document if we can open that file. If not, a new document which demonstrates the issue would also be great. 🙂

  4. Hi @2b82 welcome to the forums,

Are either of your monitor's G-SYNC compatible? If so, I would recommend disabling G-SYNC in the Nvidia 3D settings on both monitors and then seeing if this flickering persists, there is a known issue with G-SYNC causing flickering/stuttering within the apps.

If this does not resolve this, could you possibly provide us with a screen recording to try and capture this?

the file has not become corrupted during upload, because I can re-download and open it without problems. My original file and the one downloaded from above are binary identical. If you cannot open that file at all, then all my alarm bells immediately ring excessively, because this might mean that loading and saving of files have become unreliable in the new version, which would be a total meltdown...

Anyway, find attached a new file, which consists of the above original, but 'Saved as' with a new name. Both files are not binary identical, but on my PC I can definitely open both of them, and the problem also happens with both.

Along with 4dimage and carl, i'm also unable to open your second attachment and I receive the same error message. When you installed Publisher did you do so by following the standard .MSIX install process or have you potentially done the install by unzipping the .MSIX package files? Unzipping the files can cause a number of problems. It may be worth going through a re-install of Publisher v2 again.

  6. Hi @anweid,

Many thanks for providing detail on your issue, i've tried to open your attached sample file so I can try and replicate your issue though unfortunately it appears that the file you've uploaded has become corrupted as i'm greeted with a 'Failed to open Document' error In V2 on both Mac and Windows which i'll log separately.

If you have a copy of the file that you're able to open on your side without any issues, could you try 'Save as' and then uploading the file again?

  7. Hi @Ryou welcome to the forums,

We do have a few issues logged regarding Japanese fonts/text, however since i'm not a native speaker it's difficult to tell what's specifically going wrong in your screen recording, could you perhaps provide more detail on your issue?

    Many thanks 🙂

  8. Hi @TonyS welcome to the forums,

I've split your post from the previous thread to avoid any confusion.

I would initially advise following the below to do a complete reset of the app to it's default settings.

    1. Close down All Affinity Apps
    2. From the start menu/desktop hold down CTRL and Launch Photo 2 whilst still holding down CTRL
    3. This will prompt a 'Clear User Data' menu, tick 'Affinity Photo 2' and 'All Affinity Apps' to tick all boxes on screen (Do not tick deactivate Affinity 2 apps at the bottom)
    4. Press 'Clear', the app will now launch. Try opening a file again.

If this has been successful in Photo 2, try following the same but for V1 and tick all boxes on screen.

today it crashes after 20minutes work. Repeat, Jiri! 😁

Could you provide us with more detail on your crash:

    • What occurred at the time of the crash?
    • Is this a crash you're able to replicate by following the same/similar steps?
    • Could you provide us with a crash report (FAQ on how to find these is linked below)?
    • If you disable Hardware Acceleration under Edit > Preferences > Performance, does the same crash occur again?
  10. Hi @Klaus Fagerlund welcome to the forums,

We are currently aware of an issue with linking external programs to launch Affinity Photo 2 when linking the photo2.exe. I've provided a Dropbox link below to a .zip file containing the .aflaunch.exe. I would recommend downloading this zip file, unzip it and then point to your external editor to launch the .aflaunch.exe file. This should allow you to open the file in Photo 2 from bridge.
