Thanks again @thomaso and @lacerto for your valuable input!

When starting this thread I did not have the idea this will change my whole process of color management and I am sooo happy I asked! I just did not have the idea to put media unconverted as is into my publisher document and care about converting as last step before exporting for the printing company. This idea makes so much sense now that you gave it to me - thank you so much!

There are various threads with KPD problems. As far I remember they all got solved by checking the layout document again and again and fix possibly affected spots, respectively by using the required export settings. A forums search for "KPD" will list some of the threads, here is one example with margin complaints, too:

Anklebuster got a reaction from thomaso in Baffled by KDP Auto Reviewer's Rejection of No-Bleed 8.5 x 11 Interior
The weird thing is that, once I lifted the footer .02 points, 19 of the 20 problem pages resolved but three additional pages were rejected, further into the manuscript.
This makes me wonder if the automated reviewer has a failure threshold beyond which it stops evaluating pages.
Those other 3 pages, along with the final holdout from the original 20, all had various, easily remedied margin violations. Twice, the culprit was the letter J which, at the leftmost edge of a text frame that was snapped to the left margin. The tail, if you will, crossed the margin.
The other two errors involved the bounding boxes of images that had been rotated off the vertical axis.
All in all, a great learning experience.
    Cheers,

    Mitch

    Hi AnkleBuster,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues uploading to KDP, it doesn't really sound like your document has corrupted pages at all please could you provide a screenshot showing the document imported into the KDP with your KDP settings visible so I can investigate this further with you? Have you contacted Amazon KDP regarding this?
    Thanks

Use the same size for the baseline and have the columns start at the same place at the top of the page. You may want to look at using one frame with two columns in it.
No, using the baseline is a property of each paragraph style so just make sure it is turned on. I always use the text frame baseline, its just the way I work.

    A hundredth of an inch!!!
    I cannot help you.

    Basic stuff to do
Use no space between paragraphs in your Paragraph styles. Turn off the Widows and Orphans. Turn off Keep with next x lines. Turn off Keep with previous.
Turn on Use Baseline Grid. Make the baseline the same size or larger as the Leading for the Paragraph Style. You can use the Page/Spread Baseline or have it turned on in the Text Frame. Use the Text Frame's Baseline, the text will move with the frame and not be sticking to the page's baseline.

I ran into this phenomenon a few times back in my Indesign days. It taught me not to insert an odd number of pages in a document with two page spreads.
Inserting an even number of pages never gave any trouble.
Whenever I do  need a single page inserted, I insert two pages and manually move content to the extra blank page.
If there is a way to insert a single page into a document with two page spreads without these challenges, I would like to know as well.

Don't use PDF as an interchange format. Problems arise. Delete the Masters from your Generated Document, opt to choose to keep the stuff.
Everytime you use a PDF like that Santa Clause has to kick a puppy.

You could try generating a 24 page book of puzzles and then just add the page you want by using the Add Pages from Document in the Pages panel by doing a Control Click in your actual Final Puzzle Book.
I am going by memory here so there may be differences.

    Hi Anklebuster,
Regarding the three Affinity Publisher books, I didn't get around to purchasing the set yet. I do plan on getting a copy soon. And yes there is a lot of good information out there. These programs are packed with so many useful features.

You do have a point there. This is something that definitely needs to be looked at.

Update: see posting dated Monday, 2/14/2022, regarding this.

    Hey PixelEngineer,
Thanks for weighing in on this. I'm glad things worked out in your scenario. In my case, I had not made any changes to the workbook recently.
Your answer makes me wonder if AP "forgets" to reset its timestamp (I'm assuming that's how it tracks whether a data source has changed.)
In other words, if you never edit the workbook after attaching it do the AP document, you will never get the warning; and, if you edit it once,
Data Merge never fixes its point of reference.

Hello, I created my own Data Merge example and simulated the problem and was able to re-create this scenario:
I used the Data Merge Layout tool to create the box where the data would be imported from the records in the .xlsx document.
Verifying the preview text, I then went to change the record in the .xlsx document and noticed preflight warning me that "Data Merge sources need updating" in the preflight. When I clicked the "Fix" button nothing happened. When I clicked the "Update" button in the Data Merge dialog box, nothing happened. I also wondered what went wrong?
The way to prevent this from happening is to make sure that you click "Save" in your .xlsx document first before clicking "Fix" button or "Update" button since it is pulling this data from another source's saved state. Preflight is smart and noticed the change live, but the "Fix" and "Update" buttons will not work until you first save the .xlsx document. Generally when working with databases, the source should be saved first before updating your document. After doing this everything worked.
    Note:
Please note that this was an observation above is based on a scenario that I created from my end having the .xlsx document open "live" while I was working on it on my own version of a Data Merge document.

True, but please bear in mind that upgrades are sometimes necessary because people around you are updating and you are sharing files with them. Some people, unfortunately, are only happy when they have the very latest - regardless of whether they need it or not. We've all had that experience with software from California, Washington and elsewhere.
On the other hand, I will probably update to version 2.0 immediately. I have clients who will. Furthermore I like what Affinity does and the products are not really expensive, especially in comparison.
Side note, independent of the quote: If version 2.0 costs money at some point, no one should complain about it after years of free updates.

Hi, Komatös, thanks for sharing this resource! Let me get my popcorn
If data merge can't preserve sections, that's okay. I've gotten used to exporting my main document to PDF and would prefer to continue doing so, for file management reasons. My current solution is to create a separate project for the data merge process, save the output as .afpub and then, back in my main document, add pages from file.

Thanks for your wisdom and guidance, @Old Bruce. I really appreciate it -- you've kept me from exploring dead ends!
I don't completely understand what you meant when you suggested that a long text file might be a better approach than Merged Spreadsheet... I don't know of any function inside Affinity Publisher to use a long text file... (But then again, a book could be written about what I DON'T know about Publisher!   ).
The idea of one massive spreadsheet with a bunch of columns (a set of columns for each section) seems logical to me... Then I just run it through the different templates which pick up the necessary cells for that section.
By way of explanation, I am using assets from a game we designed/developed that will be published later this year. This entire effort inside Affinity is so I can learn about data-driven game development (merging from spreadsheets instead of the bass-ackwards way the publisher is doing it now). There's no time limit or expectation for this Affinity effort since the current game is too far into production to make changing directions feasible. It's all for my learning!

Sure, the data could be massaged in Excel, copied and pasted into a text editor or a text frame. Then one could manually apply styles.
Or, one could just use something else that doesn't have such limitations. Then one could go from this...

    To this...

In a mere couple seconds for 100+ pages.
We as layout people often have choices.
