Vertril reacted to Eagerbob in Publisher: export PDF with variable font
I purchased a new monotype font yesterday. This is a "variable" font. Now I am making a document with it. When I export the document to PDF, the different font variations (weight mainly) do not show up in the PDF.
When I let my mac save the document as PDF, by choosing print>save as PDF, the variable font shows ok. When I print to a postscript.ps file, and let Adobe Distiller convert the .ps file to PDF the fonts show up allright. So, if the mac can print to PDF, or a postscript file that is created by the printerdriver (I guess) contains the variable font metrics, why can't Publisher create a PDF correctly?
Thanks
Bob

When in your Publisher development roadmap do you plan on supporting the OpenType Variable font format, if at all?

Vertril reacted to CharismaPro in Variable font support is overdue.
Variable fonts are the future. If you want to be a viable and competitive alternative to the Creative Suite you need Variable Font Support ASAP!
Aside form any major bugs this should be a top priority. Is there a time line for it to be released?

Vertril reacted to Pšenda in Preflight - variable font
Affinity applications (and other) do not have full support for Variable fonts, the export of which then causes problems, see for example
Therefore, it would be good if the Preflight report points out this fact - that the user uses font types that can be problematic.
Thanks
P.S. And maybe a vector/bitmap Color fonts?

Hello,
Are you planning on adding functionality for the new OpenType variable font technology in Designer, Photo and Publisher?
Best,

Vertril reacted to BattleOil in How about support variable font?
I wish I could use the variable font in my project (e.g. Bahnschrift) but the variable font is still not supported in 1.10.4.1198 yet. Is this feature will introduce in the future?

Vertril reacted to konstantnnn in Are you adding variable fonts anytime soon?
Just finished watching a WWDC session about the updates on Apple’s system font… they’re switching to a variable font file, and Im just wondering if I am going to be able to work with those new fonts once they’re released, on my iPad (and Mac). Are you guys planning to add variable font support?

Vertril reacted to stefano.cecere in Question. WebP, will there be an export?
i've abandoned Affinity Photo for PixelmatorPro, just for WebP export feature.
it's sad because it's an easy feature, now a standard for all current and next web dev (images are 50% smaller than jpg and png!) and it wouldn't cost too much to say: sure it'll come with 1.11 be patient!

Vertril reacted to rnmartinez in .webp support in Affinity Suite
I find myself switching to other software, such as gimp, when needing to export a file to webp for web work.
I would love if this could be added, at least to Photo. Thanks!

Vertril reacted to Andy Somerfield in WebP in Affinity Photo
Morning,
We have decided to implement WebP export for (hopefully) 1.9.
The decision is not solely because it is now supported in Safari - although that doesn't hurt.
In the time I have been working here at Serif (15+ years), there have been hundreds of "JPEG / PNG killer" file formats announced - not a single one has succeeded. If we had supported each one, we would now have a massive amount of export code to maintain which was used by either 1 or 2 people, or more likely nobody. We don't like to remove features which we have added - so we would be stuck with the problem forever.
We generally don't implement new export formats unless a.) They are old but have some unique technical feature which is genuinely useful or b.) They are new and have either a good chance of achieving widespread adoption or have some unique technical feature which we think has merit.
WebP is being implemented because we think it has a high chance of widespread adoption.
Hope this helps,
Andy.

Any updates on when we'll be able to export to WebP format???
This is essential for those of us doing SEO on websites as performance is a greater than ever metric for SEO.

Vertril reacted to MVCS in Support for WebP Images
Now that the latest release of WordPress 5.8 offers support for WebP images, it would be great for the Affinity suite of products to do that, too. At the very least as an optimized export option.

Vertril reacted to danyanjp in Please support reading and writing of Webp format.(Webpフォーマットの読み書きだし対応をお願いします。)
The Webp format has been standardized since the version of Wordpress 5.8. The Affinity series is a very good application. I would like the Affinity series to have the export and read functions of the Web industry standard platform Webp. Please install this Webp read / write on Mac / iPad / Windows. Thank you.

Vertril reacted to Helmar in New export file formats (JPEG 2000, JPEG XR, and WebP)
Title says it all. Google PageSpeed is recommending the use of these formats, but AP doesn't support any of them. Please, if possible, do.

Thanks

Vertril reacted to All Media Lab in Affinity not for webdesign? No webp? Still?
Hi,
Now that Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome are able to handle webp I find in incredible that it's still not implemented in Affinity Photo and Designer. Hoped that Affinity was a bit more upfront with the latest developments as they happen, but unfortunately this is not the case. Every day I'm converting images from TIFF or jpg to webp, but with an other application. The code for webp conversion is freely available on the Google website and easily implemented. Be smart Affinity developers! Every web developer that's up to date with it's skills is using it today.
Regards,
David
