I can see Serif confirmed on Instagram that they were starting work on a blend tool and hoped to have it ready this year, though to be fair to Serif I wouldn't hold them to that timeline. Does seem like they're aware of the ask and are working on it which is great
This is from the comments in the Mesh Warp and perspective live filters reel they did to showcase 2.1 before it was released.

Maybe, with the scripting abilities, we could implement some sort of blending between shapes.
But, I know that, if Serif implemented it as a proper tool, it would make it amazing. Even better than the one on FreeHand, Illustrator or Corel.

can you please look in this too @Chris B, it seems this won't progress until some of the staff members are involved
it is a feature dearly needed by many creative artists and professionals alike
myself I am waiting for this to be implemented into affinity designer since I first purchased it in 2018, were speaking five years now
and no, there are no other tools within the affinity software family that could emulate this feature
either way, if serif is not able or willing to supply its users with some of the most essential tools please say so, because there is no need to keep up false hopes if there is no intention whatsoever
best regards

Hey, we are aware of this feature request but I have little to no influence on when features may or may not be implemented by the developers.

I ask for this tool since the beta period for version 1.0.
So, it goes back to 2014. That means that I have been asking for this tool for about 9 years now.
It was one of the tools that I used often, when I used FreeHand. And it was amazing. There are lots of things that can be acheived with this type of tool
I still have hope to see it implemented.
And I know that, is Serif implements it, it will make it excellent. Much better that in Illustrator or CorelDraw.
Come on, Serif!!!!
Like Picard says... MAKE IT SO.

I don't see another post about this from BradNY, and they have not signed-in to the site since the day that comment was posted.
If you're having a problem, you can simply start your own topic and provide the details.

plam.mi reacted to MEB in Layers Panel MISSING!!!!
Hello Whipman,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Please check if Layers is ticked in menu View ▸ Studio. In the same menu please check you don't have Hide Studio ticked.
You may also have accidentally pressed the Tab key hiding all panels. Press it again to show them again.
If this doesn't work go to menu View ▸ Studio ▸ Reset Studio.
If none of those work, press and hold ⌃(ctrl) while launching the app from Launchpad, then select Clear from the dialog that will open to reset the app.

Blend tool (object blending) has been requested since 2015. It's a crucial part of doing parametric / creative work. Any chance to put in onto priority / pipe?
Thanks

plam.mi reacted to JET_Affinity in Extrude-Tool
The kind of "extrude" tools depicted in maxmax's post are not 3D modeling tools. They are straightforward 2D drawing tools.
However, nor are the specific examples shown "isometric," because the original squares to which they have been applied are drawn "in-the-flat." In any axonometric orientation (of which isometric is just a special case), if the face of the extrusion were viewed "straight on", no perpendicular extrusion of that face would be visible. So those two screenshots are just arbitrary obliques.
Those extrude tools can be used to help draw objects in an isometric (or other axonometric) orientation, but to do so you would first draw the shape being extruded as if it were already parallel to one of the iso planes. In other words, you would have to do other transformations and calculations in order to correctly call the result "isometric."
Affinity Designer does not as yet have such an "extrusion tool." But constructing such an extrusion is fairly trivial. Just draw any shape on one of the iso grid planes, duplicate it, move it along the perpendicular axis the correctly proportional distance, use the Pen Tool in Line Mode to draw the edges of the extrusion, and delete the "hidden" edges.
I quite agree that an Extrude Tool would reduce that tedium. But as always, I don't want to see Affinity merely mimic the functionally trite tools of other programs. I already have those programs. I'm frankly tired of the same old kindergarten stuff. I want to see innovatively better implementations. In this specific context, what I would envision is an enhancement to Affinity's Shape Tools.
First, a little explanation: Consider that most familiar example of an "isometric" cube. The reason why the perimeter of that cube forms a hexagon is simple 2D geometry. The cube is drawn as if oriented such that the diagonal between its nearest and farthest corners is parallel to your line-of-sight. Therefore, each side of the cube makes the same angle with your line-of sight. That angle is the specific angle imprinted on every isometric drawing template: 35°16" (thirty-five degrees, sixteen minutes). Each of the three visible sides of the cube are foreshortened (scaled in one direction) by the sine of that angle. Each of the visible edges of the cube are foreshortened by the cosine of that same angle. That simple "sine and cosine" proportional principle applies not just to isometric, but to any orientation in any axonometric drawing method.
The existing Shapes palette already provides a plethora of common shapes, each with special handles by which to adjust their own appropriate parameters. Corresponding numeric input fields also appear in the Control Bar for numerically specifying those parameters.
Now imagine this: Suppose all of the Shape Tools simply had two additional parameters, labeled "Tilt" and "Extrude."
So, for example, you use the Cog Shape Tool to draw a cog. You adjust its various parameters (inner and outer radius, number of teeth, etc.) It works as it always has for drawing a "cog" viewed "straight on." But now, in the Control Bar are the two added parameter fields. Entering an angle (or expression that yields an angle) into the Tilt field scales the shape vertically by the sine of that angle. Entering a length (or expression) into the Extrude field offsets a copy of that scaled shape and moves it vertically by the value entered multiplied by the cosine of the Tilt angle, and draws the connecting "extrusion" lines between the two. In other words, it does the same thing as those ordinary "extrude" tools in other programs, but does it in correct geometric proportion for any 3D orientation. And it does it in concert with the power of all the already existing shape-specific adjustable parameters of the Shape Tools.
That's an example of adding functional elegance to a program in which a small addition compounds the functional power of existing features. That would blow the doors off any 2D Extrude Tool in any of the existing mainstream 2D drawing programs.
Now imagine further that, over time, other Shape Tools were added. With the Tilt and Extrude parameters in place, imagine a Spiral Shape Tool which didn't simply "extrude" the shape along the Extrude value, but repeated the shape along the extrusion length. That could equate to a more powerful and more versatile drawing tool than the tool in Corel Technical Designer for drawing threads and threaded holes. It would be far more intuitive and less tedious than the little-known technique of using Illustrator's under-appreciated Reshape Tool for the same purposes.
Imagine further that, over time, functionality were provided for something called a Shape Group; a means by which to combine two Shape Tools which could share given parameters. A Hex Bolt Shape Group would include an instance of the Hexagon Shape Tool and an instance of the Spiral Shape Tool, and the result would be the ability to instantly create correctly-proportioned hex bolts of any diameter, head size, and length—at any visual orientation.

plam.mi got a reaction from walt.farrell in Color palettes are not the same when using StudioLink as in stand-alone Designer/Photo version - color synchronization
That is precisely what I needed!
I actually didn't know that I needed to link my categories, I just assumed it would happen automatically. Anyways, I started linking my swatches and assets, as per the article you shared, and they are now accessible across the 3 different programs. Thank you ☺️

plam.mi reacted to buddingphotographer in A Calendar Template using data merge for custom holidays/birthdays (2022)
Hi everyone,
I make a calendar every year for my large extended family with all the birthdays and anniversaries printed on their respective dates. I started this custom several years ago, and at that time used Microsoft Publisher 2007 to whip up a calendar template for the year, and then added text boxes with all the holidays and special dates. Needless to say, that was not a very efficient way of doing things... Every year I had to manually move every single text box to the new calendar and make sure they all were more or less lined up and evenly spaced. This year I suddenly realized that I had Affinity Publisher at my disposal! So I went searching about these forums to find out a better, more automated way to publish calendars. A few posts, such as this one on calendar automation, and this one on data merges gave me some guidance in the right direction, and eventually I figured out a way to make a calendar in AfPub using the power of data merge to do the heavy lifting of inputting the dates and the power of text styles to make it all look right. Needless to say, this will save me a lot of time in the future!
I'm attaching an AfPub template and a sample .csv file. Anyone is welcome to use/customize these if they would like. I'm sure there are more efficient ways of doing things that I might have missed, so I'd appreciate any constructive feedback you might have to offer! Enjoy!
If you have questions about how (or why) I did something the way I did, feel free to ask! Downloading the samples and running the data merge correctly should give you results that look like this:

plam.mi got a reaction from Adalbertus in Simplify Paths
+1 requesting a Simplify function for AD.
Opening another program to do this action defeats the purpose in working in AD, at least in my case. So I'm really, really hoping that a basic use option such as this one will find its way into the program sooner rather than later.
P.S. I love all the new features in AD2, keep up the amazing work 👏

Like I said, I didn't find that topic (I'm not an avid forum user, so I'm easily confused in the navigation here); and google results lead me to this thread instead.
For people like me, a simple hyperlink would solve this issue and make the update process quick and seamless.

plam.mi reacted to R C-R in Tool Icons
I suspect that is something a user made, extracting the vector versions of the tool icons from one of the customizable *.afdesign format cheat sheets (at https://affinityspotlight.com/article/downloadable-affinity-keyboard-shortcut-cheat-sheets/).
Most but not all of the vector versions of the AD tool icons are in that Designer shortcuts afdesign file -- there is no Contour Tool tool icon because the cheatsheets were created before it was added; no Artboard, Place Image, or Slice Tool I could find; & few of the 'quick shapes' (like the stars, cog, & heart) are included. The vector versions of the quick shape tools are easy enough to create, give or take the subtle gradient which could be copied from the Cycle Shape Tool shortcut that shows just the 3 simplest shape tools.

plam.mi got a reaction from PaulEC in Full range of fonts not showing in menu?
I've had a similar situation where I was only seeing the installed fonts, but not the activated ones. At first I thought because there's no plugin in FontBase for AD, but then I found out that FontBase actually needs to run in order to see and use the activated fonts 🤯🤯 And as a diligent manager of my computer's resources I've had it disabled for starting with the system startup. Don't be me and run your manager before you run your programs lol.

plam.mi reacted to Alexey Adamitsky in "Collapse All" Option in the Layers Panel
I second this request. This is a must have feature. Doing anything complex makes real pain navigation through layers tree.
-
plam.mi reacted to SerpentEagle in "Collapse All" Option in the Layers Panel
It would be very nice if you could collapse all layers at once in the layers panel. Layers become very difficult to work with when you have many of them since selecting objects expands the parent layer, so you have to scroll back up and manually collapse them yourself.
Perhaps you could have it so that layers are only expanded for as long as the item within it is selected? That way, after deselecting an object, the layer expansion goes back to its previous state, which is ether expanded or collapsed. Am I making any sense?

plam.mi reacted to Ralf_Maeder in Automatic and adjustable Shearing of Artistic Text
I would wish for more options related to Artistic Text. Right now the only thing it does is text along a curve, but if you would like the letters to be oriented vertically or any other creative way while rolling along the path, you have to manually edit each and every letter by hand in the character panel. In this example I edited the "Shear" angle of each letter by eye-balling quickly a pleasant angle, but it's just an example. This should really be a feature that ought to be available.

plam.mi reacted to Marinaa in Expand Brush Stroke
I was having an identical issue to Kdiver25, and realized that you can set the blend mode to "erase". It will create a transparent cutout in the shape below it. It works just like the "subtract" function that most people are used to, but it's even more convenient because it's non-destructive. This still doesn't help if you are required to expand all strokes for publishing, though.
=> =>
Although the above worked for me in this case, I also had to find a workaround for a different part of my project because I couldn't expand a brush stroke, nor create a custom true vector brush. I would consider that a pretty essential feature in a professional workflow, and I look forward to seeing it eventually implemented.
