Pauls/v_kyr thank you so much for your help, it appears I was just missing that final step of Filters -> Colours -> Erase White Paper
Now if i add the exported png into a word doc ontop of coloured boxes it looks like its pencil drawing on top.

Hello and welcome!
Or let Photo select all white colored pixels in an image and then remove all of them. Aka make the white color transparent. - You can do the same with Designer for white color vector layers (remove or hide them), or you also can change each white curves layers opacity.
There are several ways to get the wanted result!

I'll assume you're using Photo. In this case try the Filters, Colours, Erase White Paper
