  1. OK, I'm back to the machine I was working on and tried with the same file after a clean start. Sure enough, no problem at all, so something must have gotten confused during the stack. It's 130 Nikon NEF files, so stresses the machine a bit. I'll need to redo the stack to test any further, but it doesn't seem to be a critical item.
  2. Well, that's interesting! Time to reboot and check again. I didn't check the revision level but I am at 2.4.0 on the release, so they should act the same.
  3. Seems like a peculiar question for the beta forum. Obviously, to find issues like this in the beta versions so they can get sorted before the next release.
  4. I've been doing some focus stacks, typically 130 raw/NEF images. I notice that the program immediately closes when I close the file after working on it a bit. The release version doesn't do this. System is 6-7 years old with Windows 10 PRO, running on an Intel Processor (i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz, 4008 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)), 16 GB memory. Everything works as expected and the file does save OK, but not sure why the program then closes. I'm saving an afphoto file type.
  5. Just bumping this up. It's been rather a long time and nothing has been done on this. I shoot mostly jpegs and fiddling to get grey to equal RGB values is a pain. Hoping it will be addressed soon.
  6. Thanks! Also, white balance seems to work OK with raw files in the develop persona, but not with jpegs opened in the develop persona. Not sure how to display kelvin? CH
  7. Hi Chris, Yes, it's always been this way. It defeats the purpose of using grey cards and such, something I do often. I don't have the "mainstream" programs, but- Paint Shop Pro 2019, 21.1.0.22 x64: Found under "Adjust", their implementation is a bit of a confused mess, but the picker does adjust both temp and tint correctly. Luminar AI, 1.5.5 (not Neo): Found under "Light", the picker adjusts both and works correctly. Qimage Ultimate, any recent version: Qimage is mostly a printing program, but does have some unusual editing capabilities. Under "Edit Image" the picker does full adjustment and works correctly. FWIW, this program can be considered a gold standard when it comes to color management and printing, but the learning curve is a bit steep and the interface is "unique." I don't understand why Affinity Photo would only adjust temp with jpg images (I haven't tried Kelvin yet). If there's a reason one would want it that way, please let me know! Best, Conrad
  8. Now up to 2.2.0.1881 and this issue remains. White Balance works correctly with RAW files, but not with a simple jpeg: 1) Open "Info" at lower right. 2) Select "Sample from location" and place the target on an area you want to sample, just so you can see the RGB values. 3) Select "White Balance" from the column on the right, "default". 4) Select "Picker" and sample close to, or around, the RGB value target. Both sliders should have been adjusted such that the RGB values are all equal- a pure grey. That's how white balance should work, but only the upper slider is getting adjusted. Also, the small target for RGB normally appears at the upper left of the image, but I noticed that it was off the image to the lower right today. Not sure if that's a new bug or something I did differently. Thanks!
  9. The only reason I keep Skylum LuminarAI around is because it can do some nice selective things with skies and color. Not sure how much actual "AI" is involved, but those sorts of tools are useful. I also use Topaz Photo AI, but it's very image dependent. It can wreak havoc with some types of images, though it can be good for restorations. In general, I don't want my editor to be creating or inventing anything, just remapping what's there. The metric I use is if the image were used in court, would the processing disqualify it from being a reasonable facsimile of the scene? IMO, anything processed through Topaz would be highly questionable. Manual cleanup of noise and tonal values much less so. If Affinity is going to add AI tools, they have to be clearly identified and not replace any more standard tools.
  10. That was it- thanks! No problem sizing it now, no idea what confused me before.
  11. On a similar note, and I can't find it now, there was a way to show all the special characters for a font, but the table was too small to tell the difference between them. If that still exists, it needs to be much larger.
  12. Having this is great but I notice it only accepts certain units, inches, feet etc. I often work in microns (um) when processing microscope images and such. It would be great if it could accept any text, or at least be expanded to include nanometers, microns, angstroms, lightyears and any other units people might want to use. I'd also like to see the scale be sticky. I often do a calibration image and the work on other images at the same scale. It would be nice not to have to type the scale in manually. I'd actually like the whole program to have a sticky option for all image processing selections so it remembers what I did last session. Or not- some wouldn't like it and it should be switchable.
  13. I have Photo, Designer and Publisher, but mostly use Photo. There are certainly things I'd change in the UI, but overall the program offers so much that I can easily put up with it. Unless they do something incredibly stupid, I'll be upgrading to whatever versions come out. Now, specifically, the drop down presets for many functions are useless to me. If I select a function, just open the window for it. There has never been a situation where I've use a preset for anything. Waste of keystrokes. This probably only applies to photo. "Help" drives me crazy. It describes functions but doesn't tell you what the damn icon looks like or where to find it. I've wasted HOURs on this. It would be so easy for help to be helpful if somebody spent a day or three to embellish it.
  14. We're coming up on yet another release and the white balance picker (normal editing, jpeg files) has yet to be fixed. This is basic functionality and should be addressed. I use this a lot, or at least would if it worked correctly- needs to adjust both sliders, not just the upper one.
  15. Good grief, you're right! I looked for it for a very long time, but yeah, Text> Insert> Fields> More gets you there. Thanks!
