Complete rubbish.  Most of us seem to have no problem with Affinity pricing.  Read the thread.
If you have V1 for "a few years" you have more than got your money's worth.   I had all three for 12 months and have no problem buying V2 (universal license) I am still way ahead compared to using anything else.

If it costs me, on avverage, £/$100 every 5 years I will be more than happy. That works out at £/$ 8 per app per year.

    Swift Publisher offers this too.
QuarkXPress offers this for QR codes only.

As has been discussed previously in the older thread on this from version 1:
For most 1D barcodes this can be done simply by installing and selecting the appropriate font, regardless of the application.
For 2D barcodes (such as QR codes) that is obviously not an option.

You haven't wasted any money on V1 because V1 still works and does what you paid for. You haven't lost anything.
You got a good deal on V1, it still works and will continue to work.
It is better value than any other system out there.

The time before V1 and V2 is about 8 years.
Even if V3 comes out in 5 months V2 (like V1) will continue to work and NOT be obsolete. None of its functionality will cease.
Though V3 is liky to be at least 5 years out.  I bought V1 (without a discount) 11 months before V2 came out.
NOTE I was still using Adobe CS6 from 11 years ago (untill I bought Afinity V1 a year ago)  because I can't afford the Adobe subscription  service.
Serif periodically do discounts of 25% and 30% at least twice a year so you can get V2 later..  There is no rush as you are not using affinity in business.

Life is what it is and it isn't fair. However Affinity do a very good job of producing very good software at a very low price. They get in 99% right.

V3 will not be released for a long time.  V1 was released in July 9, 2015.

To be honest if you just got V1 then you have a world of learning to do.  There is nothing in V2 that will make your pictures that much better.
The secret is, that it is the artist and not the program that makes great works.
That said... There will be more sales, Affinity goes on sale a few times a year.
So hone your skills and when the time comes you can upgrade.

I feel for you that you just bought V1, but no one is attacking you.

Absolute rubbish! "All" other software company's do not do this. For example the screen recording software I use has just been upgraded to a new version. Like Affinity the upgrade has to be paid for. Not only is there no discount for existing users, but, unlike Affinity, it is now more than twice the cost of the old version! They point out that you can continue to use the old version as long as you like, which is what I have decided to do – just like people can do with v1 of Affinity, if they don't want to upgrade.
(It's also worth noting that many other business's do not offer discounts for "loyalty" either. Insurance, banks, broadband and phone companies etc often give discounts to new customers to get their business, then charge their old "loyal" customers more than the new ones!)
Some companies offer "loyalty" discounts, some don't! Some do special deals for new customers, some don't! If you don't like the deal, shop around and get a better one – if you can!

As most books and magazines use an ISBN or ISSN  with a barcode It would be great if Affinity Publisher had a barcode generator built in.
Is this on the road map for V2 in 2023?  though it would make a great Christmas present for 2022 🙂

Otherwise does anyone know of a Windows Barcode generator that is inexpensive? This is for a quaterly magazine for a charity.

V2 will install and work alongside V1  so your argument fails.
Buy V2 now, install it but continue to use V1 untill you feel V2 is stable.

I am using V2 and it does not feel like a beta.
What makes you say it is a beta? Have you downloaded it and installed it?

Such a feature is actually not that difficult to create. There are even specialised fonts. Having it built directly into the Affinity suite would be a major bonus, saving us the time of typing the code into a free specialist site and then formatting the image for each book publication.
Ideally a simple highlighting of the number in the book as a page number or whatever should automatically create the barcode with the dimensions, colour, text etc. if the functionality was well designed.

Exactly. Special snowflakes whine because they are treated equal.
Only thing that I totally get is if someone bought V1 in past ~three months now can be a bit bummed. I guess Serif to be totally fair, could offer for those customers refund for V1 if they're willing to upgrade. But even without this... it's still about $200 for full suite of semi-pro apps. Show me a better deal.

(It's not a fair to ask that, besides it was different then...  and we was helping Affinity by spreading the word.... and....   err....🙂 )

For the record I bought all three V1 NOT on a deal about a year ago and it was very good value.
I got  V2 on a discount Unversal license this week.
Overall my payments to Serif have amounted to about 6 months Rental to Adobe.  So I am still way ahead
The payments to Serif will still amont to 6 months rental to Adobe in 5-8 years time when V3 arrives.
    Nothing to complain about!
