You (and all of us) wish. It is not possible at the moment. It would be great. Only way you can affect the noise grain size is document dpi.

Yes, it's been in Sketch for a while already:
This is similar to Apple surface finishing for real products. It might seem like a small thing, but visually it makes a difference.

Fixx reacted to LenC in Dan Margulis approach to color correction in PS and Affinity Photo
This is long – my questions start in the third big paragraph.

After spending a couple of years trying to learn how to improve my photos in AP, I think I see some light along the difficult path in the form of Dan Margulis’s Professional Photoshop (5th ed.) and his other books.* His approach to color correction involves understanding human perception, color spaces, image processing algorithms, and means of rendering images in print and on screen. It should translate well to other image processing programs such as AP. I find his approach so persuasive that if I had the time I would get PS to pursue it. Right now, I need some help applying some basics to AP.

Two fundamental tools that Margulis discusses at length are curves and channel mixing. He gives many examples of color correction with curves in RGB, CMYK, and LAB that are easy to learn from. A minor issue is that he displays curves with dark on the right, whereas AP only shows dark on the left. These can be compared by mentally or physically rotating the curves 180 degrees. PS has a one-click control to flip them.

Channel mixing does not translate so well. The fundamental Margulis maneuver in PS is to choose a channel in RGB (e.g., the most contrasty), use the Apply Image command to create a BW layer from that channel above the image layer, and then use Luminosity blend mode to increase the contrast. Creating this layer from existing channels seems to involve only a couple of steps. But this does not work in AP, which seems to be set up only to blend two layers, not create a separate one. Also I can select a source layer but I don’t understand how I select the destination (the pixel layer I created to receive the channel). This has got to be trivial but reading Apply Image help does not seem to help. “Apply” button grays and becomes active in a way I have not figured out. Also it appears that the equations operate in only one color space, while PS allows blending cyan with RGB. Can someone help me see if my task can be done in AP? It’s got to be simple.
And why are the Composite channels more functional (show, edit) than those of the other layers?

Although it goes beyond my immediate inquiry, it could be an important influence on the evolution of AP if, among those AP and PS users who are aware of Margulis’s work, there is enough interest to justify developing better user interface elements. (I already have a couple of ideas.) Many advanced retouchers are very enthusiastic about his writing (see reviews of his books on Amazon). Margulis and co-workers have also automated some of his more complex approaches using PS script actions, available through a freely distributed panel. This appears considerably more capable than the AP macros.

    * Professional Photoshop: The Classic Guide to Color Correction (5th ed., 2006); Photoshop LAB Color The Canyon Conundrum and Other Adventures in the Most Powerful Colorspace (2nd ed., 2015); Modern Photoshop Color Workflow: The Quartertone Quandary, the PPW, and Other Ideas for Speedy Image Enhancement (2013).  Somewhat pricey, but good value. I bought second-hand copies of the first book and the first edition of the second. One lacked the CD. I have not read the third, but there is plentiful information available online, including videos for most chapters.

    Hi giakaama,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
Nothing wrong with that (quite the contrary). I do hope there's improvements here in future versions. Affinity Photo is still relatively new. There's quite a few areas that must be looked into/improved/expanded.

Fixx reacted to Rocketdrive in Motion, Animation & Parallax Tool
For an animation project I did two years ago I successfully used assets created in AD, exported as PNG and animated in Apple Motion. If You plan the scaling in advance You can easily work with pixel based files. I mean that In many cases it is enough to export double resolution files, in more extreme cases just bump up the res of the assets.
Seeing how long Publisher is taking, I am not counting on a production ready animation app within the next five years, if ever. There are great apps out there, including AE, Moho, Motion, Fusion and the new Resolve which comes with it’s own Fusion page. Fusion and Resolve have extremely capable, free versions. Motion is a bargain for what it offers.

Fixx got a reaction from pudobof in Does affinity photo has HSL color correction like in LR ?
There is HSL adjust panel available in Adjustment layers (or press CMD-U just like in Photoshop), but it is not as precise as in LR and certainly not as flexible as in PS.

Fixx reacted to 1drey in Selection based on tonal range - any possibility to fine tune?
In PS I often use selections based on tonal range for exposure blending and other fine corrections.

AP allows making of tone-based selections, but it offers only three ranges, which are pretty harsh and rarely hit the precise range that I need. Combining it with blending options somewhat helps, but not quite.

My question is: is it possible to edit the tonal range used for selection? And (ideally) visually - like in PS and it's luminosity masks?

The original Poster @Soosunny did not mention Animated gifs, but most responders have assumed that this is what they want. Both AP and AD can export images in unanimated, or single-frame gif format.

Probably not. Fractals are displayed as pixels anyway, and are quite a different game from what Affinity apps are trying to do. If you like you can check apps like Xaos and Ultra Fractal.

There should be an option to scale the crop at the same time. Not really basic but indispensable anyway. It is coming, maybe in next version, I have heard.

Weird... usually the problem is other way round, objects should go 100K but you get rich black instead.
Is the shadow a separate vector object?

Hi Paul, I think you got no answer because GCR/UCR custom adjustments are things that only True Prepress Professionals need to bake. Normal users tend to be satisfied with canned profile seps. Maybe developers will add custom if prepress pros voice this need loud enough here.

That is, the AD-missing blend tool... also there seems to be no way to do gradient to a path(s), (unless it is a raster effect, which turns all vector to bitmap in export).

Fixx reacted to CristianFarinella in UI and separated Mode
    Hello,
in separated mode Affinity Photo and Designer don't take in consideration the "save dialogue window" that comes from top below every palette you have active in that moment. The result is that when anyone is trying to save files, you have to move and relocate the floating palettes and the main toolbar (see the attachment). Would be desirable to have another interaction with the save window, maybe hiding temporarily the palettes (now I do by myself pressing TAB) or pushing on the foreground the dialog window. Other feedback, that could be considered, is to allow more workspaces and the possibility to save them. There are many reasons, useless to explain, in which you need to save two or three workspaces with the disposition of palettes and toolbar you need.

Fixx reacted to borela in Affinity Designer - Merge stacked nodes
    Hi
Often times we have to deal with bad vectors where there are many nodes stacked on top of each other,
it would nice if we could just select all the nodes and "merge" them into a single node.
    Does this feature already exists?
    Thank you
