Fixx got a reaction from CraigB in [IDML Implemented] How can I open Indesign (indd and idml) Files in Publisher?
Most customers do not want InDesign source files, and most designers do not want to hand them over (unless compensated with $$$).
If you customer insists to have InDesign files, you better use InDesign for the job (I assume that is important customer).
If customer wants to build a work flow where it is possible to use Publisher, price is no problem and customer can purchase it.

They are there, you have to set bleed in in document setup, and include to PDF with "more" button. Bleed guides are still missing though (coming).

    I absolutely +1 that.
And please make the bleed values also linkable and linked by default.
There are very few situations when you would like to have different bleeds on each side. I don’t want to write the same amount 4 times.

Can bleed be shown when making new document? Instead of having to enable the dimension by going to Document Setup... after it has been created.
Also, can the guides be visible on the pasteboard outside of the trim area?

Nowadays book designers usually create a book as a single file plus separate covers. Publisher should be powerful enough for that. Just export press ready PDF.
Ebooks would be best created with dedicated ebook app. I recommend Jutoh.

    Hi,
first of huge fan of the fact that I can almost trow out my indesign. Props for Affinity!!
What I noticed when creating a new document in AFP is that you do not have the option to enter the amount of bleed you
    want on the document.

This is to be found afterwards in under: File -> document setup -> bleed
would we nice to have this in the new document creation dialog as well

There are a lot of quite good pixel editors and vector apps, but only 2 or 3 good (and expensive) layout apps.

I would think people need .bmp because target application. While you can tile any pixel file, some applications for example in game design need .bmp.

This behaviour was discovered in beta a while back and will be corrected. On the other hand it is not lethal flaw just now as imported and pasted text seem to behave correctly and if you type extras can be removed by hand.

Hello. The beta doesn't appear to support picas as a unit of measurement. Will this be added? I work in picas most of the time.

Have you tried using Autoflow for text? Create the first frame, add the text, then shift-click on the Text Flow button at the lower right of the frame. It will create new pages and frames by cloning the one you clicked on.

    wonderful.  thanks!
Now I do have a suggestion... there should be a LOCK for column gutters so you can adjust them together.  seems tedious to have to adjust each column space individually, when, in most cases you'd want all spacing the same.
Another note: I think its an AMAZING feature that you can adjust the width of each column independently!  This is something that InDesign is lacking.  great feature!!

Fixx reacted to GarryP in Is there a way to reset the cropping box in Designer (Desktop)?
Ah, now that I know where I'm supposed to be looking that makes sense.
Since I was looking at constraints - which deal with child objects and have locking functions - I assumed I was already in the right place.
    Apologies for the misunderstanding Alfred.
    Thanks R C-R.
P.S. May I suggest that the "Show Rotation Centre", "Hide Selection while Dragging" and "Lock Children" items on the context bar are separated from the others which are specific to the selected item? Having general/specific stuff mixed in together is confusing for me. (Maybe give their section a different background colour to show that they're different?)

Fixx reacted to tariq in radical UI and UX change proposed
Designer is great. But sadly Photo I feel has an incoherent UI and UX.
This isn't saying Photo lacks features, or things aren't possible with Photo.
This is saying that the metaphor or philosophy that arranges the many functions in Photo isn't well thought through - sorry to say this, I now loads of work has gone into it.
    Some things to think about:
Findability - make it easy to find things by grouping them logically, context aware presentation of options is also helpful. Currently unrelated stuff is together, and related stuff is far apart in different menu trees. Consistency - see last point about similar things together. But also the UX is inconsistent. Why should I find the drop down menu to rename a pallet when in other places it is a right click because I'm editing a property of a thing. Another example is some tools/filters are non-destructive whilst others are not. Really disorienting and gives a sense of deep unease and poor confidence. Please don't try to mimic Photoshop - that thing is decades old and there no good reason for emulating it. Beat it by making an app that is intuitive and powerful for newcomers. Your measure of success is how little a manual or online tutorial is needed.
I am not a fan of those personas... yet another layer of context shift, when there should be just one layer of context switching maximum. Context depending on context is not good.
I've previously mentioned Lightzone (not Lightroom) as a simple but powerful app precisely because it allows the user to do powerful editing, in an intuitive way, totally non-destructively, and the effects you can achieve with it would require many many steps in other apps. Lessons can be learned.

Maybe this basic function can also be realized in the version 1.7.
A simple and complete standard resizing dialog for A-Photo.
Without such a standard dialog A-Photo unfortunately can never reach professional level.

It is a shame to use PS just for resizing pictures.
It would be nice if they just copy that PS's panel and it will not be a PS clone, either.

Forgive me but I feel this needs to be said. Again.  You guys really should make the copy and paste function more intuitive and easier to use when  using AD.
I spent an hour trying to copy and paste a selection of an image. I did --FINALLY - after going on google and researching how to make a copy of selection of an image. It was a complete waste of my time. I lost over an hour of work time just trying to get an image portion pasted.  I should not, in a software program, have to continue to raster EVERY IMAGE Layer just to make a copy and paste. I should be able to just select a layer, ANY LAYER, make a selection and copy and paste that single selection or a group thru the layers selection and paste that.
Almost every drawing program on the market is that intuitive, including Photoshop.  I noticed that there are a lot of issues with users, both experienced and new, having this same issue with the software, and is really a stopping point of the creative process. Having to stop  the creative flow to research why you can't copy and paste a selection is a time waster.  I know there are ways around this issue as a programmer.
Can your software developer write a code where when you make a selection, then select copy that it automatically rasterizes the image layer for user in the background and then when you select paste, viola, it pastes as an exact duplicate?  I know coding can be difficult as I have worked with many developers on software projects, but this should be a small coding change that would take AD further than any other program.
Just my thoughts on the copy and paste issue.

Looks quite like original to me:

I though used quality 75% as blue around the text gets artefacts very easily. 20 kb size. (There is some difference between desktop viewer and this forum presentation, looks like lest text is bluer here? Also, orange is different. Maybe colour profile interpretation is different? This forum should not repack images I think.)
