Fixx reacted to edwingr in Affinity Photo - crop from both sides at the same time
I'm also trying to switch to Affinity Photo, but this seems like quite a showstopper. I use this very often.
Scaling and cropping with alt and shift combinations seems such a basic function to me.

Fixx got a reaction from Comunacho in Something like P-Shop’s "Free Transform" – it's missed!
Mesh Warp and Perspective tools do almost what we need... if devs added just some options to behaviour it would be perfect.

Fixx reacted to Lorox in Resizing text frame using scale handle should scale contents
Possibly, I haven't really thought of it this way...
Personally, I think that Adobe has it adressed quite satisfactory: in InDesign all handles firsthand affect only the container as such and the content stays as it is (except from text flowing differently by forming longer or shorter lines according to the changes in the size of a text frame). But when you press the command key while dragging the handles the frame's content gets scaled along. You learn this once and you've got it, I'd say.

Fixx got a reaction from harrym in White, grey and black picker for color balance
It would be useful. But I find it easy enough to set white and black points by dragging triangles in histogram, using eyedropper to click black and white does not bring much advance. YMMV.
But what really handy things are missing now:
auto (will set white and black points automatically, can be tweaked by user after)
white balance (the grey eyedropper)
tone clipping alert (available only in develop persona, would really help in setting white and black points)

There is even no need to pin, you can paste a graphic inline.

OK now I got it. Temporarily did not show.

Fixx reacted to Subclavius in Enhanced posterise function?
Hello Fixx,
Thank you. For me, it was slightly easier in that I am working with b+w, so only 1 channel. I had already applied curve and levels adjustments underneath the posterise layer but I found it didn't really achieve the level of control I was after. In the end I found a way to achieve what I was after, ultimately using blend modes in groups (one for each level of posterisation). This is accurate but very 'clunky' and laborious to change and I would still like to see a much greater level of control.
It would certainly be interesting to see how posterise worked against a colour LUT in indexed colour mode to produce a probably more predictable or coherent result.

Fixx got a reaction from Xie Yuze in Whether affinity photo supports cropping of imported pictures?
Crop tool works only the whole document as AP is meant to be a photo editor (as opposed to Designer and Publisher where each object can be cropped individually).
You can though mask each image layer in composite quite easily by drawing a marquee around the image area you want to keep and clicking Mask Layer icon in the Layers palette.

Fixx reacted to Weedz in How to colour greyscale/bitmap logos
Oh no,
I just found out today that Publisher does not support bitmap files. Total bummer.
In comics the black ink is often a 1200 dpi Bitmap BW tiff file. This pretty much makes it unuseable for high res prepress. And there is no output for 1200 dpi monochrome images when exporting pdf's.
Can this go on the todo list for a (very) future release?

Fixx reacted to rivet in Procedural Brush
I requested this awhile back for AD but it was suggested I request it for AP
Love the sketchy brush and the proximity interaction during active stroke.
Not sure if this is possible yet but if not please consider adding.

Fixx got a reaction from Mithferion in Resizing text frame using scale handle should scale contents
Resizing text frame using scale handle should NOT scale contents!
Normal and most used usage is to reshape text container using handles. Text size should be adjusted via styles.
Ability to change shape AND text size as an object is just an extra feature. Sometimes useful but not really bread&butter. Usually it is done with mod key with handle, Publisher has extra handle for it.

Fixx reacted to Wosven in Do Affinity designer got the color editor yet?
It's not a bug, his adjustement was only clipped to the last object and not above all of them.
In your exported file, the adjustement was rasterized when the OP want the vector objects to have the new colours without being rasterized.

Fixx reacted to TSiOX in How to free transform with nearest neighbor?
I know this is an old thread, but that's not really a correct answer or am I the dumb one?
I currently got same problem, how do I free transform with nearest neighbour just like in Photoshop?

Fixx got a reaction from Robert Petras in Affinity Animate
I do not think there is room for actual animation software, and also bettering AAE would take considerable effort and finances. Also there are some video animation/fx packages which are OK though not quite with AAE feature set.
That said, if Designer aims to compete in UX field it should offer some way to do prototyping, either with built in animation tools, or with connection/export to some other prototyping package.
Also, there really is no simple gif animation tool in he market at the moment that can take layered file and animate it.

Fixx reacted to manucabrera8 in Bleed not saving in pdf
Hello again,
My bad... haha. I forgot to click on the "more options" button to select "Include printer marks".
Well, I guess there might be more people in the future going through this mistake.
Remember to check this option if you wanna get the PDF ready for printing.
Anyway, thanks!

Fixx reacted to wolfnowl in HDR Panoramas
Hi There:
Making HDR panoramas is a part of my photography workflow, and there are a few things in AP that would make this better. As it currently stands (1.83), one CAN combine all of the images into one panorama directly but this yields results that are distinctly lacking. The better way is to make the HDRs of each sequence first and then merge them into the panorama. There are two issues here. One is that while one can save the merged HDR files as .aphoto files, those files cannot be used to make panoramas. They're invisible in the selection window for the panorama. The next best way is to export each HDR merge into something like a 32-bit .tif file, and then gather those .tif files into the panorama. The second thing is that it's vital to do some tonemapping for each of the HDR merges before exporting them. Since (if one does this properly and used manual exposure control during capture) the exposures are all the same, the tonemapping choices for each set of merged images should also be the same. The simplest thing to do would be to create a macro before tonemapping the first HDR merge, and then run the same macro for each of the following sets. That's not possible. The best option I can come up with right now is to use Notepad to record the slider values I set for the first HDR merge, and then manually apply those values to each subsequent set before exporting them to .tif.
Thanks!
Mike.

Placing a PDF as "passthrough" is so normal everyday thing that I thought it certainly is in every PDF code library. Turns out, it is not.

Fixx reacted to Medical Officer Bones in Help creating speech bubbles, Photo vs Designer
Couple of things to consider:
- Photo has no quick method to warp objects by dragging only one corner point (CTRL-T Free Transform in Photoshop equivalent is missing). This is quite frustrating for this type of work. I speak from experience.
- Photo does not support 1bit high resolution inked art. This means you must work at 1200ppi and full RGB, and later convert in other software. Unsure whether 1.9 will have 1bit TIFF export to at least work around this hefty limitation for comic related work.
- as far as I am aware there are no non-destructive booleans/compound paths option in either Photo or Publisher. Only in Designer. This does impede the workflow somewhat in this case. Ideally the balloon and tail should be able to be positioned separately. This can be achieved in Designer, though.
- You may want to place your ink work in Designer, or use Publisher to layout your comic as a comic book. But both will convert your 1bit inks to RGB or CMYK when exporting to PDF. If you are relying on high resolution inks to be overlaid on top of multi-tone colour work, Affinity cannot accommodate that workflow at this time. Perhaps with 1.9? Unknown at this time. If you work with high-res 1bit inks, this makes it impossible to work with Affinity and (semi)professional comic publishing work at this point of time.
Disregard all this if you have no idea what I am talking about or you are not interested in actually printing your comic, and only mean to release it on the web or digitally. In that case you are probably working at RGB 300ppi anyway, even when inking. The result will be lacklustre when printed, but for web work it is fine.

Fixx reacted to Wosven in Epub
APub is only in its 1st version. I wouldn't expect a young app to export to epub, since bigger apps do a mess of it. It's better to use dedicated apps for this, or for complex layouts, PDF (those can display articles as reflowable text you can enlarge, etc. combining the option to view the "nice" composed pages and being readable on any device). With the confinement, we can see magazines and newspapers using those in France.
For following a time BlueGriffon's developper difficulties and the complexity of implementing the EPUB's specs, it doesn't seem wise to try implementing EPUB in an app that's not even finished.
Converting a layout book to epub can be tricky, since you'd better know about HTML to later use different CSS rules to obtain the same result as rules/options used in the layout app, and you'll want to apply/modify/remove those rules on different parts of the text or words, because there are a different set of problems and needs that occur.
For example, ID do a poor job of exporting to epub, but if you export well formatted text (enough paragraph and character styles), and export to HTML (not epub), you'll have a better result, and you'll need less work on the HTML produced to obtain usable code. And there are a lot of "things" you can't or shouldn't do on epub, it's better to keep it a different work, in a different app, using the layout app to get the final text and perhaps base HTML if possible.
For now, perhaps a good export to RTF or DOC(X) would be more usefull.
Depending of your book, there's certainly best suited solutions to find, and I hope you'll find one soon.
