  1. Tick "Enable Save over opened PSD files" in preferences and you can just simple save over the old version as long as you do not apply any Affinity's own nondestructive operations to that file.
  2. Does it make any difference in practice? In Affinity Designer you make a layer first and all subsequent paths go there; in other software you make a layer first and all subsequent paths go there. If you do not make a layer all paths are layers (that is: paths) in layers palette; in other softwares all paths are paths in layer palette layer.
  3. I used Designer where is a separate crop tool. Though mask in Photo should do exactly the same thing.
  4. OK... I tried cropping the image within page with Designer and exported PDF does not display lines anymore. I think those lines were a real Affinity export problem.
  5. Unfortunately it is much better to do this manually. I would prefer the one above be: The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog
  6. Most users do not need password protection. Those who need can use separate application to do so.
  7. I do not see any outlines with Reader, Preview or Brave Browser. PDF is a scan though and yes it is messy looking.
  8. While a reader may think that a book is a book whether it is printed or e-book, they are actually very different things. Publisher excels in creating typographically high quality printed matter using features that mostly would have to be jettisoned when creating e-book version. And e-book, while feature set is very limited, needs to have its programming rules followed very strictly, not a simple task itself. Thus it is at the moment best to use tools developed specially for e-book publishing to get acceptable results. Publisher will probably get e-book export capabilities at some point, but adding such a module is not a trivial task. And it is totally different and separate from core typography engine.
  9. Affinity devs should definitely straighten the procedures, after all there a clearly some results which are desired and commonly wanted, and others that are not useful at all. Software should offer help to achieve the usual wanted results and warn if selections would result unwanted results like not-100K text/vectors.
  10. try this: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=99533
  11. In MacOS you can use Preview app to save PDF to .ps-file which will have fonts converted to curves.
  12. Open your Affinity file and export to PDF. Repeat. It may be possible to do batch process which would automate this but I have no experience with Affinity batch jobs.
  13. True, Safari has it. Weirdly, its shortcut is not the common alt-cmd-W available in Apple's own OSX apps but alt-shift-cmd-W.
  14. There has never been such command in mac apps (AFAIK) so I do not miss it, but functionality has been available in OSX for ages. It would be good if Affinity would support alt key closing which indeed closes all windows. Both as shortcut (alt+cmd+W) and alt-click close box. Meanwhile, it takes only a few seconds to keep cmd key down and hit repeatedly W – or just quit the program.
  15. Does Typeface keep fonts in their original folders? I think RightFont did tend to move them to some location of its own. Also, RightFont did not accept many older fonts (even when they were OTF) but rejected them. Is Typeface more forgiving?
  16. You can call it microcontrast. Enhances textures, like feathers on birds. It does not replace normal sharpening (USM). It should work OK. Enter new pixel values and export (with right downsampling method), resulting file should have new pixel dimensions. I would use Lanczos for downsample. Last one is probably sharper (oversharpened with antialiasing artifacts?) but the difference should not be big.
  17. Yes, it would be modified. Too bad. Of course it is possible to alter settings to something else than PDF/X-4. User should know. Anyway, this is how InDesign works.
  18. Give us both, please. In my mac cmd-space does not invoke spotlight. And anyway application should catch system wide shortcuts and prevent them executing (that is a problem I guess).
  19. This fools many people so it might be better if preset name would read PDF/X (modified). (hey devs, N.B:!)
  20. There should be a backup save which and Affinity should offer to recover when you start it again. But generally, keep hitting cmd-S.
  21. Probably because Powerpoint layout and typography tools are weak. But yes, I do not think users would flock to use Publisher to produce Powerpoint shows. Feels like niche feature. Though nifty one, yes.. BTW, you can copy paste stuff from Publisher to Powerpoint quite succesfully.
  22. Problem with the outer shadow is that if apply Radius the shadow is not antialiased anymore. I consider this a bug.
