If you are talking about AP then yes, most people use RGB in the production and convert to CMYK8 at last stage. Of course for some CMYK8 is suitable all the way. I you are talking about AD then I do not know any printing processes that take CMYK16. Personally if AP had CMYK16 it would be ok, just another seldom used colour space. Now if there are a lot of people who use CMYK16 now is your change to say you need it. I just think it is quite rare.

AutoTrace (convert raster image to vector)

and trace by hand. Autotrace is just a gimmick - 474 replies

reason is that for most people RGB (be it 8-, 16-, or 32-bit) is the working and archive format and CMYK is for press only, to be converted on demand from RGB.

Photo PDF import without fonts
Fixx replied to Dodgyb2001's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
I would add option for AD to import PDF as it is, or pass through. I thought AD can do it but seems I had needed fonts installed and did not see the difference. That is what you do in InDesign, just place a PDF like any art. -
Like ease-in-ease-out of the curve. Very subtle but might be useful.

So use other tools for autotrace. It is such a separate task it should not bother too much as you can import the result to AD immediately.

Curves and Blend Options Feature Request / Feedback
Fixx replied to MagnusL3D's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
I would use black to white gradient only in mask layer... I would say that is most used gradient use and there is no use for other %. As modify layers colours could be anything. -
OK, prepress would not touch in-application files too much. It is mostly dealing with PDF files. AD though could be a tool to modify incoming PDF files. well.. no. Usually prepress just silently fixes files and assures customer everything is ok. Seems there is some ambiguity what is prepress and what is production. I don't know if this is a problem though. I think there is still some improvements to be made before we can say we have a robust tool for creating print ready art in AD.

Curves and Blend Options Feature Request / Feedback
Fixx replied to MagnusL3D's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
Very good points. I would add curves – you have to click very precisely to curve line to add point and then drag to new position. Would be better either have more snap tolerance or better like PS just click in the histogram area and new control point is created to exact click location and curve adjust to that point. curves – auto black and white points. Why search for them manually, especially when there is no clipping preview (have to bend curve separately to see where the clipped parts are – nuisance). Curves is the most important tool in any photo editing application. Make it perfect. -
I haven't done real PRO PREPRESS work but a few days, more in the preprepress, but. 2. Select all rich black elements, change to K100. 3. Yes, more often it is printing PDF with some dedicated application. AD should have more robust PDF export. None of this "rasterize everything that touches pixel element" stuff. InDesign had this right right from the beginning. (I should test if AD CAN print better quality right from the app, but somehow I think same restrictions apply as in PDF export.) 4. There is cmd-L and cmd-shift-L. No shortcut for hiding though. Yes, this has to do with selecting elements when there are a lot of them bunched together. Lock the ones that must stay as they are, select and troubleshoot the rest.

Import PDF
Fixx replied to zstekovic's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I think system level PDF toolkit should make it easy to place and display PDF. Opening it as editable is much heavier coding. (Though PDF toolkit is not without bugs in OSX just now..) Edit: Toolkits and code libraries do not have this feature available; no help here..- 15 replies

Import PDF
Fixx replied to zstekovic's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
OK, I though this worked. Have to add feature request for "pass-through option". I guess there are apps available for win that can save to bitmap. In OSX this would be trivial using Preview.- 15 replies

Standard Jpeg Workflow
Fixx replied to Mo3bius's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Open JPG. Set black point, white point, gamma, contrast, colour balance using curves tool (AP curves is almost good, some details should be enhanced). Fix imperfections with clone or inpainting. Local lightness correction if needed. Sharpen (USM). Scale/export as needed. Save AP original. -
Import PDF
Fixx replied to zstekovic's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
If you place the PDF instead of opening it it will render as it is and no fonts are needed. This means of course you have to have base document set to right size before placing (ok, you can set it after place but setting the size is not any easier there either). You can then rasterize the PDF layer and/or export to pixel format.- 15 replies

AP allows me to open files so large that PS refuses to open them. RAM usage is much better.
