  1. If you are serious about JPEG quality you could export to TIF or PNG and use a dedicated tool for JPEG compression. BN that many online services apply their own compression to uploaded art.
  2. There are algorithms and there are algorithms. Affinity happens to use export library which easily tends to show banding.
  3. Highest resolution in epub readers at the moment is 1920x1440. You can aim that if images are to be displayed fullscreen.
  4. If you create a path with Paintbrush tool in AI, it will be expanded in PDF part of AI file, even when it is single path in AI. Pen and Pencil tools keep as single paths. Appearance can be exact same with all these tools.
  5. I would guess Designer is not going to be a CAD program. All we can hope is that some CADlike features would be implemented.
  6. I would use XnConvert which has automatic deskew. Handling PDFs may require installation of Ghostscript. And I think XnConvert does not do multipage PDFs, it processes only first page. Separating pages is though not so complicated with right tools. On the other hand, if all pages have same skew you can use transform panel in Affinity and paste same angle to each page quite quick.
  7. When you open a simple image like jpeg it opens as a simple pixel layer – what else it would be? And pixel layer is what all operations work on (image layer is more limited in a way). Make sure Document > Transparent Background is selected if you want transparent image.
  8. I can imagine how pissed off ID users would be if Publisher exported crappy IDML and they would have to fix those. And people would try to use IDML export in collaboration teams and it would not end well. You would lose customers and Affinity would lose reputation. Stay with ID if others in your team use ID.
  9. I would prefer to have transform panel with all relevant options. Panel can be extensible i.e. has more esoteric options hidden by default. I am not a big fan of toolbars, I prefer dedicated panels which can be hidden and called with kbd shortcuts.
  10. i still have not gotten the one I ordered a year ago.
  11. I think $54.99 has been the list price from the very start. All lower prices have been temporary sale prices.
  12. How do you get a dropdown list? I get just a slider (which is unusable of course as it would give just arbitrary values when most of the time we indeed want a set round value like 150, 300, 600 dpi). So I enter numbers. It would make no harm to replace slider with a set of most common dpi values.
  13. I think Loupedeck would be interested in adding Affinity set to their controllers. After all, their controller was originally aimed for Lightroom, and Photoshop and C1 and some others were added later.
  14. Original RAW (in this case, NEF) is not altered and also it CANNOT be altered (save some apps can alter its metadata but not image content – and AP cannot do even that). Your saved or exported image is totally separate file with no links to original RAW. Original RAW stays just like it was.
  15. That may be but hey still behave like 1-bit images. (I suspect the difference between 1-bit and indexed is not "architectural" but slight variation of the same format). They open as bitmap (1-bit) in Photoshop and behave like 1-bit in InDesign.
  16. I have to say I find AD current implementation be rather good. It does not make much difference if it is named "Transform objects separately" instead of "Transform in Place". I also find that AI implementation is not always intuitive, sometimes you have to do an operation, undo it, and do "transform again".
  17. unless you specify 1-bit format in export – that would be available in PNG and GIF formats. And they may produce dithering artifacts as you have noticed. Now we have closed the circle.
  18. I have noticed that at places Affinity has weird habit of honouring dpi rather than physical dimensions. That may be a part of the scaling problem.
  19. A Designer would be great technical illustration tool if a few enhancements were made. CAD it is not, but data exchange with CAD applications would help many of us.
  20. As Serif has earlier mentioned, it might be possible to add 1-bit tiff export to Photo. That would help a long way. There should also be an option to use dither/no dither – which option should also be added to gif and png export settings. Tougher question is if Publisher can support 1-bit – and yes, of course it should, but it may take making deep alterations to Affinity graphics engine.
  21. PNG export uses same dithering algorithm as GIF exporter so the same artifacts persist. I would recommend using some other app for indexed colour work.
  22. There are a couple of threads in Publisher feedback forum. And yes, powerful but flexible automatic captioning would be very nice feature indeed.
