Matt agrees there is no good reason for layer effects to cause their enclosing clips to rasterise. There was a bad reason, which he's fixed. So in the next beta, later today, the document you sent me should export as vector, and if you set the options to Compatibility: PDX/X-3, Embed fonts: Text as Curves, Allow advanced features unchecked, then your printer should accept it too.- 35 replies

Probably. That people want to use artboards as pages, and open and save multi-page PDFs, shows that many Designer users would appreciate proper page support.
-
One difference is that artboards all share a coordinate system. Pages are used in a more regimented way. For example, you have notions like facing pages, two-page spreads and page imposition.

Thanks. The problem is a layer who's name is not valid Unicode. It is in Layer1, the first Group, and in the Layers panel it shows as "(Layer)" as if it didn't have a name, but if you rename it to "t" and then back to blank, the document will export successfully. Another workaround is to set the PDF Compatibility to "PDF 1.4 (Acrobat 5)", since that does not support layers. Can you tell us where that layer name came from? Was it imported or pasted from something, or did you type it?

Remember font and size each session

The default font is part of the object properties. You can change it for new documents by using Edit > Defaults > Save. This will save all the object defaults, including colours, stroke weights etc. -
I'm afraid that the current Mac App Store version does not support exporting layers in PDF. The good news is that we plan to add that feature in an update before Christmas. If you don't want to wait, you can try using the Customer Beta for that update, which is available from here.

Thanks for the file. It looks like the shadow on the orange ellipse to the left is causing everything in the same curve to be rasterised. I'm not sure why or whether it is avoidable; I'll ask my colleagues next week. In the meantime, selecting the ellipse and using Layer > Group isolates it from the rest of the drawing and allows it to be exported as vector.- 35 replies

If you are using the public beta, then you must already have a paid-for version from the Mac App Store. Everyone who has a paid-for version from the Mac App Store will get this update for free. So, you won't be charged for it. The beta will expire, but that shouldn't matter because it'll be replaced by the Mac App Store update, and then by future betas.

Beta Pantone export
Dave Harris replied to brook27's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
Currently we only support spot colours in PDF. Is there a reason you prefer EPS? It's a less capable format generally. For example, it does not support transparency at all, nor blend modes. -
Designer will have artboards this year, which aren't quite the same as multi-page but may help in the meantime. Each page of an imported PDF will become an artboard, and on export to PDF each artboard will become a page. However, there's no Pages view, or page numbers, or any of the other stuff I'd expect in a true multi-page app.

Did you try what I suggested? Did it work? If it's wrong in Acrobat, there may be another problem. If you attach the file, or send it to our support email, I'll take a look.- 35 replies

Thanks. The Allow advanced features setting is the bottom checkbox. If the PDF looks OK in Acrobat, then the problem is with Corel Draw, and unticking that checkbox may help.- 35 replies

1979mark, which preset were you using? Does the PDF look right in Acrobat? We now switch Allow advanced features on by default for printing and PDF/X presets. If you want to import into another app, you may get better results if you switch it off.- 35 replies

They should be prefixed with an exclamation mark in the font combo. It's actually only 5 fonts from the current document, but we figured nobody would ever use more than 5 at a time anyway. We also try to ensure that the current font is always in the top section, so you shouldn't have to be scrolling up all the time.

Sorry, my mistake: I overlooked that you were using Photo. The artboard tools are in Designer. You could try opening both the original PDF and your edited version in Photo Beta. The original PDF should have the multiple artboards, and you can delete their old content and copy your edited content from the layers in the new document. Photo is not really intended to be a multi-page or multi-artboard app. It sounds like Designer will be the better tool for what you are doing.

In the beta, each artboard becomes a PDF page. If you import a PDF, then it will create a document with several artboards, and then export them as multiple pages automatically. For your existing document, you'd need to convert it to this format by hand. Select the Artboard tool (which is under the Move tool), then use Insert Artboard (in the context toolbar) for each layer, and move the layer onto it. There probably aren't any tutorials because artboards are very new (and not quite finished).
