  1. Vote +1 for crop to selection, and preferably crop to mask as well. I accept there are workarounds, but this feature is ideal for certain tasks, e.g. removing the unwanted spare space around something like a logo or icon when exporting the final "shaped" version with a mask applied. I was using this feature in Micrografx Picture Publisher something like 20 years ago. Unless someone can demonstrate there is an alternative that is better in every way, maybe Serif should just listen to their users on this one...
  2. Interesting idea. I could see it would work toa degree. However you'd have to do quite a bit of setup for the custom brushes, and that's only for a single brush shape, and you wouldn't be able to use the standard [ / ] shortcuts for brush size, so only a partial wotkaround.
  3. I seem to remember trying to use a Serif-designed image catalogue tool that came with the previous range of products (PhotoPlus)? I had to give up on it when I found it could only handle files on local disks. Most of my files are stored on a Linux server running Samba, which are access through a local mount point via a symbolic link. The Seric tool couldn't handle any of that. I agree with the need. I'm currently still running Picasa, but Google dropped that years ago and at some point it won't be possible to keep it running on later versions of Windows. At Serifs typical pricing points, often sub-£50 per product when ther are offers on, I would be happy to buy a DAM from Serif if it was a robust tool with a decent feature set. Remote file support, facial recognition (with data held locally only and encrypted), and multi-user support would be key for me.
  4. This is a feature I have wanted for years, but never found in any software. I find it a nuisance, especially when refining masks, that the default brush scales the feather region (how many pixels wide the region of varying opacity is) linearly with the overall size of the brush. This behaviour effectively means the brush edge gets harder as the brush gets smaller, so- I'm constantly having to fiddle with the brush hardness as I change the brush size Below a certain brush size even a 100% soft brush still produces a noticeably hard edge on the image (or mask) What I want is an option to set a fixed feathering region width on the brush (either by % initially, or pixels). Then as the brush scales this feather region just moves inwards or outwards based on the brush outer radius. One implication of this is once the brush radius is reduced below the feather region radius, the opacity of the brush would start to reduce (in addition to whatever the current opacity and flow settings are). The attached image tries to illustrate what I mean.
  5. I should also mention that the free MS PowerToys addon for Windows has some nifty window layout features under its FancyWindows options, and PowerTools itself is Free Open Source Software (FOSS). Maybe worth a look.
  6. I've been on the old Serif forums on and off for about a decade. Finally getting around to posting here on the new s/w.
  7. It too me a while to realise AP could even do multiple views. E.g. either editing two images side by side (sucg as colour/style matching) or having a detail zoom plus overview. However it remains pretty limited. I would like functions such as- View->Split view->Horizontal (automatically puts two views of the current image side by side) View->Split view->Vertical Advanced- toggles to have views docked or floating (look at the tiling windows managers available for Linux/X to see how this can be done in UI terms) Advanced- Drag the divider between two docked views to resize both The abiliity to save + load named split view arrangements The current view saved with the file and restored when it is re-opened A View->Restore to single view "back to safety" option
