  1. IDMarkz from Markzware can also convert InDesign files to IDML so they can be opened in Affinity Publisher.
  2. I still run it under Snow Leopard. I don't do subscriptions, so I can't move past Suitcase Fusion 3 which I don't think will run on anything higher than Snow Leopard. I use Font Explorer X Pro with Affinity, but I don't like it as much as I did Suitcase. I'd probably still be able to get along with InDesign CS3 but InDesign CS6 had better compatibility with something I don't remember anymore, which was why I upgraded at the time. And jumping from CS3 to CS6 wasn't a problem but there's no way to convert an InDesign CS6 file down to an InDesign CS3 file. Well, there is, but it requires InDesign CS4 which doesn't help me. And that's one of the reasons I look for multiple export options in page layout software now so I have options in getting a file from one application to another if needed.
  3. I don't think you'd even be able to run InDesign CS6 on a Power Mac G4. InDesign CS6 requires a multicore Intel processor and Mac OS X 10.6.8 or higher. The Power Mac G4 doesn't have an Intel processor and I think the G4 maxed out at Mac OS X 10.5.8.
  4. VectorStyler seems to be the missing link between Designer and Illustrator. (Caveat: I haven't done extensive transfer from Designer to Illustrator; mostly, my use is Illustrator to Designer.) Designer only gets what is in the PDF stream of an .ai file. VectorStyler seems to get everything. Plus VectorStyler has some of the features Designer doesn't have yet. I sometimes wish Affinity would buy Numeric Path and merge VectorStyler into Designer. Photoshop is by far the easiest to replace of the Adobe suite, aside from some plugins and scripts that can't transfer over to Affinity Photo. Illustrator is next in line and then InDesign is third and a distant third at that. Of course, Affinity Designer and Photo have been around four to five years longer than Publisher, so I guess that makes sense. I suspect Publisher will catch up sooner than we think though probably not as fast as we'd like.
  5. I would say yes. At work, we have old and new equipment that utilize Adobe Illustrator files. And AI8 is more than sufficient. I can use a CS version of Illustrator to convert PDF or EPS files from Designer, but if I could save/export direct from Designer, that would certainly be more efficient.
  6. I'll do a +1 for IDML export too. It's the closest thing to a "universal" page layout format right now. Even if it's not perfect, if it gets you 75-90% of the way there, that's a lot of work that doesn't have to be redone if you were to recreate something from scratch. With an IDML file, I can get the document into various versions of InDesign as well as QuarkXpress. I think Scribus possibly too. And others. It's not just for sharing or collaboration either. For me, the bigger thing is archival purposes. It's not entirely uncommon that I might have to open a file I created many years ago (for example, a PageMaker file) to update it or repurpose it or etc. Will Affinity Publisher 2040 be able to open my 1.x file? Maybe. But, I'd be more comfortable having a secondary option just in case. An XML file could work too, maybe. But what other than Scribus could open it?
  7. Hello, I have had Affinity Designer (and Photo) for almost four years now but, for all intents and purposes, I didn't really dive into it until this year where I have made a practice of using Designer every day to familiarize myself with the tools and features. (I was a user of the major competitor's software since 1991.) So, it is with some embarrassment and shame that I have to ask the following question which is, no doubt, a stupid, stupid question but I have failed to uncover the answer in the Help feature, FAQs, online searching or searching fruitlessly within Designer. I imagine I must have overlooked the answer somehow because it can't be a deep dark secret. The question is, what is the default brush for the brush tool in Designer and where do I find it? I find myself frequently using the default brush, switching brushes and then trying to get back to the default brush which I have yet to be able to find. My solution has been to save my work, quit Designer and relaunch. Then, presto!, the default brush is the default again. It would be so much easier, however, if I could just find where it is and select it as one would with any other brush. Thanks!
