  1. Work on the new font continues - 2nd weight, diacritics added. Btw, is there any possible way to get the split view by horizontal line (not vertical)?
  2. Yesterday I started to design new typeface in Affinity Designer. I really love split view to get quick overview of shapes and to control outlines. ;)
  3. So 1.3.6. I guess... will it be free update for us who purchased 1.3.5 or will we need to pay some extra fee?
  4. To be inspired by the downloadable Affinity Photo Help I've created ibook for Affinity Designer. Hopefully it is OK to share it within this community. Download link: https://app.box.com/s/feur5p14invtuqz6c9rs6qm7wohsj3g5 Notes: All credits belong to Affinity team :) It is not 100% copy of original Help in AD. The formatting is slightly different (page layout, bullets, colours, etc.) so don't be confused. The file format is .ibooks. Sorry, I didn't use EPUB or other but I guess every user has iBooks installed :) Sorry if some references / hyperlinks are missing. I use old-fashioned "copy&paste" method to create this file. I've exported this file from iBooks Author to PDF too, but for some reason the hyperlinks don't work. Anyway if you prefer PDF here is the download link.
  5. My private fonts finally work properly, all special OpenType features I've implemented (e.g. Swash or Stylistic Alternates) seem to be OK. See 2 screenshots from regular 1.3.5 and beta 1.3.5.7. Thanks, great job! ;) P.S. Well, I am still waiting for editable text layers in exported PSD...
  6. Here is the the first proposal for logo of upcoming International cartoon festival. Well, I am not the author of this logo, I am just converting original artwork to the curves for the author. And guess what... I am using Affinity Designer ;)
  7. My first attempt of comic book lettering in Affinity Designer ;)
  8. I am using Font Creator 8.0, it is PC only, but thinking about Glyphs (or Glyphs Mini) for my Macbook.
  9. Hello. I used AD to draw and slice single glyphs for my new comic book font... regular is done, others (italic, bold, bold ilalic) are still in progress. ... and here is the sampler:
  10. Hello guys. I would like to ask few questions regarding PSD import / export from Photoshop to Affinity and back. I use Photoshop CS6 in my PC and I have a plan to use Affinity Designer (or Photo later) to do comic book lettering. I use just few tools in PS like Shapes, Paths and Text layers, with some of blending options like Stroke, Drop shadow, Colour and gradient fill. I created one PSD file in PS containing layers with ballons and text for testing how it will be opened in Affinity Designer - option: Favour editable text over fidelity. Well, it looks quite good, but there are still some small issues. I create ballons as elipse (Shape tool) with the tail (Path) as non-destructive combination. AD export this combination as dectructed shape with no possibility to edit ellipse and tail indepently. Yes, still editable as curves but non destructive combinations from PS are gone. Is there something I can do in PS and/or AD to be able import connected shapes correctly? When I create ballon in AD as non desctuctive compound of Ellipse and curve, export it as PSD, then it is opened in PS as 3 layers (with clipping mask?) but the curve is not combined with the ellipsis as in AD. They look like separated shapes. Text layers are imported to AD as editable text, but some of settings are not the same e.g. I am missing “optical” kerning. Would it be possible to get this option in the future? When I export PSD from AD and open it in PS the text layers are rasterised and they are not editable anymore. Would it be possible to get this option in the future? Gradient fill of the Shape is imported/exported correctly but gradient fill as "blending option" of the layer tis imported to AD correctly but in export from AD to PS it is changed to simple colour. Some of my clients are quite OK to get flat 1 layer TIFF or high quality JPG, so there will be no issue. But some of them reqest to have editable PSD to be able do some minor changes by themslef (ususally text correction) if needed. They works with Adobe stuff on PCs so obviously I cannot push them to switch to Affinity’s products and Apple hardware. There are screenshots of my lettering test in Affinity Designer and Photoshop. Original file created in Photoshop: PSD opened in Affinity Designer: and PSD exported from AD and opened back in Photoshop:
  11. Hi guys. My name is Miloš, I am comic book letterer and typeface designer (focused mostly on comic book fonts) from Slovakia. These days I am switching from PC to Mac and I hope I will be able to use Affinity Photo or Designer instead of Photoshop on a daily basis. I noticed that same features which are important for work with my clients are still missing - export editable text layer from AP/AD to PSD not just as rasterized layer - but there are few nice details which I found very interesting and useful for me, especially vector / shape tools and export slices. Hopefully Affinity Photo and Designer will be better and better. ;) MM
