Exporting to PDF: how to keep text and vectors?

I have stumbled on this post trying to solve a similar issue - text being rasterized for no reason when exporting PDF.
I was able to solve this by ungrouping everything - I guess if you group text with images it all is being rasterized as one object. It is annoying working with no groups, but I ungrouped it in the end, just for the exporting purpose.
