  1. Is it possible to get source code access, so we can customize e.g. the brush setting and way the channel editing works?
  2. Still waiting for an uncomplicated solution to paste into channels. Together with a few more filters, PNG compression, brush thumbs sizing and separated brush sets (not one big file in user profile) it is among the most desired items.
  3. In the current version 1.10.1.1142 it is still not possible to conveniently edit any single channel. Even inverting on channel does not work. The channel's Editable has basically no function, if unselected, still all channels are drawn on, even with a grayscale brush or other workaround mentioned in this lengthy thread, nothing works reliably or is close to convenient. I can understand that copy&paste into channels is a bit more challanging, but with what is there now, it seems fairly doable: Copy&Paste: If you copy a grayscale, it should be pasted in each Editable channel. If you copy multiple channels like RGBA, the channel order (Red on Red, Green on Green...usually) applies. Again the Editable selection on each channel applies, only pasting the channels that have Editable enabled.
  4. For that case I would use RGB macro from the Channel Packing examples here in the forum, since it's likely not imported content, but a newly created image. Can you provide an example why you would prefer channels? Edit: Another reason I would use layers here is to keep it PSD compatible, and if used with channel packing trick, it might have a better chance to stay compatible with Photoshop.
  5. Channel Packing as you describe is a different workflow, it will not work efficiently with EXISTING 4 channel / 32bit textures. But, it is an interesting workflow for texture artists creating NEW textures. Thanks for pointing that out. Sorry about the confusion and clearing it up so detailed. Thanks.
  6. +1 Definately a must have as described by the OP. The most important is the option with NO stroke, and a grid based list with scalable size (or selectable preset as the OP listed)
  7. Thought about this for a moment, how I would programm this into the existing application: 1. If not all channels have edit selected, apply COPY (region selected or do auto select all) to channel. 2. The copy content goes into a default hidden Spare Channel. Depending on how you want the process to work, this has 8 or 32 bits (see step 3) 3. Variant A (acceptable solution): Now the logic to PASTE can be 8bits into the only ANY ONE editable channel. Variant B (not preferred solution): Or 8bits into all editable channels (which the user would quickly comprehend) Variant C (preferred solution): Or 32bits respectively into each corresponding RGBA channel but only those channels that are editable (less comprehendable if all 4 editable it would fall back to layer in this concept, but we already selected not ALL channels in step one). The logic above does not avoid overwriting channels with black content if not defined from COPY in 32bit solution. But the user should pretty quickly adjust even if that occurs.
  8. It's a bit sad that I can edit a channel with the tools, select all in a channel, but neither copy nor paste it to the active edit channel in the same image or another open one. Let me point out that AP is now very close being able do this, just please enable the paste. Please! (of course a warning might occur if the copy has more bits than the expected 8bit) The workaround with Spare Channels is just too annoying and wasting A LOT of time. Also the FX workaround above is not really great.
