InfiniteAffinity got a reaction from ave in All UI Elements are too small on a 5k iMac
I am using the 5k iMac, but my vision is fine, so I do not experience the issue. I however, am in support of an option to change ui element size. I can see how this could definitely be an issue for some, and just a preference for others. I suppose the only solution for now would be to reduce resolutions. Perhaps increasing constrast by changing background color could be helpful to some. Best of luck.

InfiniteAffinity reacted to MattP in Designer or Photo on a 12" Retina Macbook?
I was going to get a 12" MacBook for my wife a couple of weeks ago and thought that I would finally get to see how it performed - but in the shop we ended up falling for the 13" MacBook Pro Retina instead - so I'm still not able to give you any advice, sorry :(  The only reason we wavered was just because the 12" looked so delicate and we've got a 2-and-a-half year old running around the house so worried it may not survive very long! ;)

From what I've read, it has similar performance to a couple of years old MacBook Air 13" - which is really not too shabby at all for normal use - and an absolutely astonishing feat given the size and weight of the thing! :)

Let us know if you ever find out how it performs! :)

InfiniteAffinity got a reaction from MattP in Designer Vs. Sketch and Photoshop: Article by Tom Koszyk
This article by fantastic writer Tom Koszyk https://medium.com/product-design-ux-ui/the-perfect-ux-ui-design-tool-13-things-designers-needs-most-f35589ce18e1
highlights some very good points about Affinity Designer and the competition. I think it was well written and should be taken seriously. My question is: Will the issues raised here be addressed? I want to see Designer win all of these competitions. Thanks.

Mostly.  We have plans, just need time to do something about them.  We should be able to at least do what Sketch does, but better.

After the recent popularity of my flat icon tutorial, I decided to start a tutorial series focusing on the principles of flat design. In this first tutorial, I focus on basic shapes and flat colors. As an example, I walk through how to make a flat iMac icon like I posted before.

Well done, I look forward to the rest of this series. Thanks for creating and posting this tutorial.

With all of this love for flatness, perhaps the follow-up to El Capitan will be:

InfiniteAffinity reacted to dunedoggy in Affinity Photo - for non PS types
I am trying not to look a fool at posting this comment, but I have only just joined the Affinity Forum today!  Not sure what to put in Topic Tags, so left it blank.

From reading other recent user comments about the new, fantastic "Photo", I take some comfort in seeing a fair number of comments having the same theme - help for newbies.
I believe this generally means people who have never used PS (and didn't want to spend a significant portion of their lives trying to understand it).  I now have a Canon 6D (formerly a confirmed film-generation luddite), and determined to shoot all images in RAW.  Very happy with the thousands of images taken over past year (yes, I know they need weeding down to just a hundred or two... give me time - I have only just retired last month).

So this brings me to the point:  I am getting my head around Lightroom 5, and having good success in general RAW manipulation.   I like the potential of the new Affinity "Photo", as evidenced by viewing some of the brief training videos on Vimeo.  Superb voiceover, professional presentation, obvious vast experience, - BUT as others have commented, they tend to be a bit on the short side, and some of the quick clicks, tool selection moves, etc are done so quickly that they are hard to follow.  The most recent video for beginners (29/7) runs about 10 minutes, and great to see.  However it could run to 30 minutes for my likes, and point out details that I think are "assumed knowledge".  Why not a half hour presentation - taking a RAW image from Lightroom, developing it, then applying the sort of "dodging and burning" techniques that seem to win in photo competitions, and outputting to a personal web page for final viewing.

Fully understand the vast amount of work that has gone on behind the scenes already to produce such superb products as Designer and now Photo, and appreciate that it is still early days regarding production of training material.  I just want to add my voice the the audience of amateurs who are still slightly frightened.  The pros (and glad to know that so many former PS types are jumping ship) are able to read between the lines of your videos.  In the fullness of time please realise that there is a bigger commercial audience out there (types like me...) who long to progress in their photography but want to:  avoid cons like Adobe CC, limited usefulness of Lightroom 6.xxxxxxxx, and instead go with Affinity, but do need a bit of hand-holding.  Sad I know, but just look at the popularity of the lengthy Adobe training videos for earlier versions of LR, PS.

I will probably soon exceed my allocation of word count for this posting, so will close out for now and hope I have not offended too many people. :)

    Hi friends,
Just announcing that I have purchased Affinity Photo and hope to have made the best investment with it. I wrote some question yesterday about me no being able to use the "edit in AD or in APH" tool. As I figured out, once that the purchase has been effective, the tool is ready to be used, right now.

I will be in contact as I will investigate and practice with the app and have the same confidense that you have granted me when any help is needed from you all,

I wish myself a "bon voyage"!!!! in this Affinity Photo adventure.
    Greetings from Bilbao, Spain.

Just going to put it out there, AD costs about 1/10th of what illustrator used to go for.

I'm not a professional editor either but $50 for everything you get in Designer, plus the ease of use, is one hell of a bargain.  And I can't wait to buy Photo, (also for $50, I assume?) And I will consider that money well spent also.

Since I have a very good standalone DAM, I'm selfishly hoping that if Affinity chooses to go this route they will create an extra app that one can buy or not, rather than adding anything more than basic features to Photo and Designer.  I know some of our members would like Media Browser turned into a full-blown DAM but I would prefer them to concentrate on improving the already existing functions and on creating new ones that users are requesting.

I know it defeats the purpose of having a 5K screen, but you might try reducing the resolution while working with Affinity.
