justwilliam got a reaction from davemac2015 in All UI Elements are too small on a 5k iMac
I am 56 years young (although one would never know by looking at my avatar) and am using Affinity Photo and Designer on an riMac (5K). I am also currently awaiting treatment for a cataract on my left eye which will happen sometime after the (hopefully) successful corticosteroid treatment for the inflammation I have in both eyes.

I have not had any more difficulty with the UI in these two programs than in any of the other programs which I use on this machine and I am certainly more than well pleased with the display on this iMac as it helps me to more clearly see when working. I am running in the default resolution.

I suppose that I am a glass half-full sort of guy. This bit of misfortune with my eyes has not discouraged me from continuing in my relatively recently begun photography endeavours nor in the excitement I feel when I see what I can create in Designer.  Rather it is propelling me (maybe that should be 'impelling me') forward and onward because I am fully aware of the usual, or inevitable, outcome of this diagnosis.

Perhaps a pair of 'terminal' glasses might assist you, amergin, or maybe simply adjusting the resolution on the display.

As MattP mentioned, perhaps there is a UI-changing option in the pipeline to rectify this for you and others who feel the same. Hopefully so; but, for me, both the UI and the UX are fantastic as they are and I know that they can become even better with time and input from the people who make up the user base - like you.

    Hello thatmanwithacamera,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Clicking on those files when you right-click the app's icon in the dock (recent files opened in the app) should open the application, bring it to the front with the file ready to be edited.

To clean those files from the app's icon on the dock (and also from File ▸ Open Recent menu), go to menu File ▸ Open Recent ▸ Clear Menu (in Affinity Photo or Designer).
If you want to disable Recent Files permanently for all apps, you can do so in OS X System Preferences, General tab, changing the Recent Items dropdown to None.

In the Stroke panel this is called a miter join, and the number to change is the Miter: on the right side of the panel. It defaults to 1.414 but for sharper joins you need a bigger number.

justwilliam reacted to MEB in Using Affinity within Aperture
    Hi Ron,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
To do this you must first set Aperture to use Affinity Photo as an external editor going to Aperture ▸ Preferences..., Export tab (on top), then press the Choose button to select the External Photo Editor and point to Affinity Photo. For the External Editor File Format select TIFF (8 or 16 bits as you prefer).
Now when you want to edit an image inside Aperture, right-click on it and select Edit with Affinity Photo app.... Affinity Photo will start with the image loaded (or open it if it's already running) ready to be edited. Edit the image as you wish then select File ▸ Save - a dialog will appear saying the image contains non-pixel elements -. Select Save Flattened to flatten the image before sending to Aperture. That's it. The edited image will appear in Aperture alongside the original.

justwilliam reacted to skiphunt in Panorama Feature is Really Very Good
I was playing around with the new Panorama feature and comparing it to Photoshop's Photomerge. Photoshop was slightly better at removing lens distortion... but I tried doing a multi-image stitch with about 8 images. Shot both horizontally and vertically along a linear horizon. I then loaded them up in AP to see how well it handled it. No problem at all! It's sorted them all out and did an almost perfect job in mere seconds.

Then, I tried the same 8 images in PS photomerge and it failed miserably. I tried about 6 different setting to try to get better results and they were all horrible. And, it took about 5 times longer for each attempt than AP.

    Very impressive AP!!!

Thanks all of you and the rest of commenters.

Yes, they will be on Affinity Designer, as it is the best vector tool at this moment, the most interesting, fresher and the one that is a real competitor with possibilities against Illustrator.

I really need to show designers and the illustration community that better software tools are not only possible, but already a reality. I've been for years trying to make many professionals understand how much better it is demanding quality software than using what we have, just cause it is what the standards say. I really think tools as Illustrator is putting many people off and making work much harder and unpleasant than it should/could be. This could be a long debate about software, which I always found really exciting, and so are these times, as many more people is starting the change, at last!

What I'd like to do also is explaining several approaches that work for any other kind of software too.. Ways of thinking and mindset that will allow you to make artwork every time better. My own experience getting here and being able to do this and how I learnt my own way to this level, which was not easy at the beginning and then, after trying and trying, on my own, became easy as breathing.

I have the tutorial outlined, all the materials I need ready, and after Christmas I'll start recording it.  It's gonna be a long one, that I intend to split in 2 for the sake of allowing beginners and more advanced artists decide where they want to start.

Thanks and I'll let you all know more soon.

Here are two of my first night shots with my Pentax K3II and Astrotracing function. Background and foreground shots blended together in Affinity, otherwise the foregrounds would have been blurry due to the movement of the sensor as it tracked the stars.
Moderator Lee gave me a few tips withthe Northern Lights shot, as I was having much difficulty blending them. The Milky way shot has very flat edges where foreground meets sky, so it was very easy for me to replace. Most other work done in Lightroom.

    Hi Lamont,
The resample algorithm will only be used if you change the image dimensions. If you are simply exporting the image there's nothing to resample. Maybe we should grey out the Resample dropdown until the user changes one of the dimension fields. I will log this to be looked at.
    Thanks.
