  1. It is definitely worth confirming what R C - R just stated. MEB pointed out in post #30 to " ... make sure you download the full version (nikcollection-full-1.2.11.dmg) from their site."
  2. Oui , deux choses différentes : le téléchargement a été rapide, même sur ma connexion lente et l' installation a été très rapide sur cette machine . Yes, two different things: the download was quick even with my slow connection AND the install was very surprisingly quick on this machine (less than one minute passed between the time I clicked install and when it was completed). I apologize if my wording was confusing.
  3. UPDATE: (for the benefit of any others considering downloading this software and making use of it in Affinity Photo or in other ways) The download was quick. I followed the steps outlined by MEB in post #30 (and utilised the helpful information provided by others here). The install was less than one minute on a 27" riMac, 4 GHz i7, 24GB RAM, R9 M295X. (I have so far not been displeased with going over-budget when upgrading from my last iMac.) I tested a few quick image edits from Aperture, from Affinity Photo, and by simply right-clicking an image on the desktop and choosing the 'open with...' option - all works as described and hoped. For anyone unfamiliar with these NIK plug-ins and wondering whether or not they may want them, they could be described as Googles 'Snapseed' App with a higher degree of polish, potential, and possibilities. In my case these will be quite handy for use when wanting to make immediate and easy 'adjustments' to personal images that I just want to rapidly share with friends or family to be viewed once or twice on the various displays and devices used nowadays. Obviously there is a certain capacity, ability, and promise for much more than that within these plug-ins, but when wanting to do much more than that I will remain in AP. I also want to say "thank you" to the forum members who so kindly answered my (repeated) questions so thoroughly and helpfully (I do have the tendency to be a bit overly-cautious at times). And I must say that I have encountered nothing but a great bunch of folk here on this forum.
  4. Thank you MEB and RC-R. So, since I do not have Ps and do have Aperture, I suppose that I should: Create a folder called something like 'Photoshop Plugins' in my Applications folder Run the installer and after it finds Aperture I should click on the 'plus' symbol and select the 'Photoshop Plugins' folder which I previously created. And this should allow me to use these plug-ins in any of three ways: either in Aperture, or as stand alone apps, or to use whichever ones currently work with Affinity Photo from Affinity Photo (after "pointing" AP to the plug-ins folder which, IIRC, the video explained how to do). Sounds simple and straightforward enough; I just wanted to put it into words and make sure I've got it right by double-checking with y'all (wow, I've always wanted to use the word "y'all"!) So, please jump in and post back if I now have it right - or, even more importantly, if I still do not have it right. Thanks.
  5. Interesting ... so, were I to just go ahead and let the installer do its thing for Aperture then not only could I use them there but I could also use them in a semi 'stand alone' manner using 'open with'. If that is the case then this may be the best solution for me for now. Could some others please confirm that after the installation of the plug-ins (in either Lr, Ps, or Aperture) that simply right-clicking a Tiff or jpeg on the desktop, for example, and choosing 'open with...' will allow one to open the image in one or another of these plug-ins.
  6. I just downloaded the NIK collection (Mac) and after viewing this thread and others I thought it might be best to ask a couple of questions before I proceed with running the installer. Firstly, I do NOT have photoshop of any flavour, but I DO have the latest (and, sadly, the last) version of Aperture. MEB, you mentioned placing these into photoshop and then "pointing Affinity Photo to Photoshop's plug-in folder" in order to use the NIK plug-ins in both applications. Would it be a possible, and functional, choice to install these for use in Aperture and then do this "pointing" you somewhat cryptically (to my unlearned ears anyway) advised? If so, how do I go about pointing AP to plug-ins available to Aperture? yakk, in post #16 on this thread you posted a video showing the procedure to install these plug-ins for use with Affinity Photo for those who, like me, do not have Photoshop. Would this be a preferred method for someone who has Aperture. I ask because it seems as if the plug-ins would: work fine from Aperture for as long as I can run Aperture (but I would have to move the image from AP to Aperture on those occasions I wanted to use a NIK plug-in) or some of the plug-ins will sort of work OK-ish from Affinity Photo (if later AP upgrades do not kill this ability). Would it perhaps be wise for me to install for use from Aperture for now and keep .dmg from the downloaded NIK collection. That way whenever I do update from Yosemite to El Capitan or beyond and thus lose my beloved Aperture perhaps AP will have the plug-in support then to have the whole collection working. Or, better yet, Serif will have started shipping the fabled Affinity 'DAM' and I could walk happily away from Aperture. So, what do you think guys; what's the best option?
  7. Thank you for making and sharing this tutorial, Dan. You, Sir, are gentleman and a scholar! (OK, I cannot be substantially sure that that last statement is entirely true; but I can with all certainty say that this was quite kind of you! )
  8. Ronnie, This sounds like a very good idea for a short tutorial for you to create and share with the forum! Cough, cough; hint, hint... Dodging and Burning in Affinity Photo - with bonus tips on how to recover/replace lost highlight information - mixedmediasalad There, I've even helpfully made the title for you.
  9. Although I am more used to shooting with longer lenses, I bought a 24mm in an attempt to spur some creativity by forcing myself to use a prime with an unfamiliar FOV (an idea I read about somewhere). I’ve only been out with it once so far, but I think it actually may turn out that it does help improve my skills. When editing the shots taken with my new wider view I decided to go all the way and edit them even wider in a more ‘cinematic’ fashion. I could readily see that I was in over my head and in need of some help. YouTube has a lot to offer for the many Adobe adherents but I found nothing for Affinity Photo users. So, I am hoping (read: “humbly requesting” or “pleading”) that those here with talent in such editing could find the time and energy to create a tutorial of this type for those of us who lack that talent. Please. Here is a .jpg from one of my RAW shots and the little that I was able to accomplish so far with Affinity Photo and a bit of trial and error (still a WIP):
  10. Perhaps a small suggestion to those who are using Affinity Photo and/or Designer on the 27" riMac and are finding the current tool icons a bit smaller than they would prefer them would be to press the ctrl key and scroll to zoom whilst locating the tool you are after. Works a treat.
  11. But...but, yeah but,...Isabel...but,...I have been on pins and needles in anticipation of your tutorial; but long hours at work with no possibility of an internet connection mean I don't often get to view the forum. I do not want to miss out on this tutorial so I hope that not only are there plenty of coupons to go around but also that they last more than a short window of time. And let's not forget that I was the first to publicly declare my undying love for you when you initially announced your kind and generous plans to provide this tutorial and share your experience (and your own way of approaching a project) with all of us here. That's gotta be worth shooting me a PM when the tutorial is ready and the free coupons are available. :)
  12. Why does the Affinity forum not have an emoticon for twiddling-thumbs or semipatiently-tapping-feet?
  13. Oh boy! A christmas present from someone I don't even know! I am not moving from this spot 'til I've ingested both parts of the tutorial. OK, that may have been somewhat of a slight exaggeration, but whatever spots I find myself in while waiting on the tutorial I will be on pins and needles in anticipation. The realism of that roadster blew me away; I want to garner as much as I can from its creator. Thank you, Isabel. (The emoticon stands even were you to turn out to be a 250 Kilo dude with a hairy back and only three teeth named Bruno. OK, that may also have been somewhat of a slight exaggeration )
  14. Wow! These really put the 'awe' in awesome. Thanks for sharing.
  15. Save with History is what would allow one to 'backtrack' to a certain point in the workflow - unlimited undos and redos. Have you been completing your work in one sitting and not ever undone some steps and then redone them (I doubt that was good English, but I hope you understood what I meant). Hopefully Dave Harris sees this when he logs on as he would be better able to inform you of these things.
  16. It will be nice when the Save As panel is persistent with the Save with History instead of checking it each time (or has that been addressed in the beta - I don't have the beta).
  17. There was a thread once where Dave Harris answered a question and described how and what is saved and what is not and why. I do not remember the whole of his answer but I do know that since reading that post I have gotten even more into the habit of saving with regularly and with due vigilance.
  18. I am no help on why you might have lost AD on one monitor, but had you already 'Saved' the file once and named it?
  19. Thank you, MEB; you always come through with the answer. :) I wasn't sure whether or not using the higher resolution would cause it to need to be 'downsampled' (if that is a word) when displayed on my machine set to the lower resolution.
  20. I have a couple of long weekends coming up and plan to spend some bits of time in Designer creating a couple of new backgrounds for my screen. I have a 27" riMac which is running in the 'Best for Display' (or, 'Default') resolution which is 5120 X 2880. Which document size should I use when creating these backgrounds; 5120 X 2880 or 2560 X 1440? I want to have the best result for running at the 'best for display' setting? If I use a document size of 5120 X 2880 would it look worse than one of 2560 X 1440 with these settings? Should I export the backgrounds as .jpeg? Or some other option? Thanks.
  21. Have you tried playing around with Layer Effects - Inner Shadow? I just did a quickie test and it gave me an OK result with a rudimentary, smallish crowbar-like shape. YMMV
