Wim Daniels got a reaction from KnikmanAV in Clicking text to select
I'm having issues with selecting text using the cursor keys. Maybe it has to do with preferences on my Mac but I don't think so. I already adapted the shortcut keys for Publisher (disabling alt + left and alt + right) and hope to work like this:
alt + right-arrow => go to end of word (add shift to select)
alt + left-arrow => go to start of word (add shift to select)
alt + up arrow => go to start of paragraph (add shift to select)
alt + down arrow => go to end of paragraph (add shift to select)
home (numeric pad) => go to start of text (add shift to select)
end (numeric pad) => go to end of text (add shift to select)
It seems Publisher allows only to select words or the entire text using the cursor keys. I didn't find any options to define shortcuts for moving or selecting text...
    What is your experience?

I think it would be the best solution, if you just added a menu entry “Highlight Glyph Substitutions” to the bottom of the text menu, as shown in my mockup below.

What I find annoying is that the snapping does not seem to work on the columns in a text frame. I've activated all options in the snapping manager, but objects don't snap to the columns in a text frame. Seems like a must have to me. Or am I missing something here?
If snapping would work as expected, one can use a text frame to set up the guides on the master page, or use a (empty) text frame as a snapping guide on the fly.

It seems that the problem occurs when trying to place the text tool cursor next to the left text frame border.  Particularly if it is near the link triangle

It is not everywhere possible to jump one field further with the tab key. For example in columns (see printscreen). This feature would be important if you mainly want to work with the keyboard.

Double-click on the label "Total Pages" and a field will be inserted at the text cursor.

Wim Daniels got a reaction from jmwellborn in Master pages are not applied
There seems to be an issue with margins regarding master pages indeed.
But it is only the margins that are not being applied to the pages. Any objects on the master page with different margins are copied as they should.
In a way there is logic behind it: any objects on a page should remain untouched by applying a master page. Only master page objects should be removed when applying another master page. When a page is first created it 'inherits' the margins from the document settings. So applying the master page does not change that: the margins are part of the page, they're not from a master page. From a user perspective one expects the margins of the master page to overrule those of the page.
So yes, it is a bug. And I have it too!

In Document Setup when changing unit type from say Inches to Centimetres and either tabbing to the next input box or clicking on an input box the unit type doesn't change until you click OK and then go back into the Document setup. Typing in those input boxes will still show "in" not "cm"

Another option you should have is to be able to sync all or selected inputs instead of having to type in each one, this goes for all affinity apps with bleeds and also margins.

While the functionality of a grid in APub would be helpful, everything is already there to build your own custom grids. Use rectangles, style them, group them and put them in the background or on master pages. You can even save them as assets. See my two screenshots here (one with a layout grid on a master page spread and one with two different layout grids in the assetts panel):

I found I had to fiddle a little with the snapping settings to make snapping work. Preset 'Object Creation' together with 'Candidate List' seems to work.
I find this important, because it gives everyone who needs it an instant workaround, while other feature requests (e.g. data merge to name just one) can only be implemented by the Affinity programmers. That way we can take away some pressure from the ever so growing list of features that seem to be 'a MUST'
I'm not saying the feature request is not neccessary. I just try to find a way to help myself and other forumster.

PS: I would share the APub document but it has grown to a size of several megabytes and is too big to upload. File size is a different story...

I assume it is good news for many that version 1.7.0.133 introduces own page presets. Thank you!
In the File > New pop up window it says 'Type > Presets'. I'd rather call this section 'Own Presets' since all other sections like Print, Photo or Web are presets as well.

    Hi there,
this is a little bug for Ben …
The Pen Tool has this wonderful new option Align handle positions using snapping options, but this option currently does not work with the Pen Tool, but only with the Node Tool. I guess this was a small programming oversight.
    Thanks, Alex

Wim Daniels reacted to walt.farrell in Spellcheck?
I think you left out the third possibility, Wim.
If you have Publisher checking spelling as you type, then it will provide a red underline on a misspelled word to highlight it. If you right-click on such a word, and Publisher has suggestions for as different spelling, you can choose one, or tell Publisher to ignore the misspelling, or to learn the word and add to the dictionary.

Whenever I train new people at work, navigating text using the keyboard is about the first thing I tell them. It still surprises me how few of them know about this. It is so essential if you want to work efficiently. The benefit is you can use it anywhere: e-mail, word, blogs, this forum,... and hopefully soon in Publisher as well.

Wow yes. Thanks Wim.  I just tried this in InDesign using Shift Command and arrow keys.   WOOT!   34 years of DTP and I never got into learning this simple one. Goes to show you can teach an old dog new tricks. I know that the simplest keyboarding class now would probably teach this in 101.  But my keyboarding class was on a manual typewriter. I knew this type of thing could be done but I just never looked into it.  Ya made my day.  I think I've seen my wife do this. ughhhh

"Document Setup" appears to have the same content as "New Document" except for setting "Bleed"
Defining bleed should be a setting when creating a new document (rather than the only different item in Document setup) since bleed is part of the basic geometry of a page destined for print.

When I set the preferences of a document to images > linked preferred, it seems to work fine for images that are placed using the image placement tool. The resource manager shows the images as linked. But when I drag and drop images from a folder into image frames of my document, they show up as embedded in the resource manager.
By the way, the document size is the same when embedding or linking. That seems strange to me. It makes me think images are always embedded...

I just noticed that double clicking text choose a word. (good) Yet triple clicking selects the paragraph. no no nope please.  Triple click should select a line, Quadruple click selects a paragraph. A big miss here so far. Please fix. OR am I missing a preference in options.  hmmm guess i should look before posting. Nope, couldn't find it.

About number 5, center objects tool: when centering an object you can specify the alignment mode, just pick page. Publisher seems to keep that setting until you change it again. Even when you quit publisher, it keeps the setting.
Really nice about 5 bis: layers per spread!
