  1. I waited all summer to catch this female of natural aviation at the lunch counter getting her fill up. I'm glad Affinity Photo was there when the waiting was over.
  2. Hey, John, you are absolutely correct. Both images were taken within milliseconds of each other and the ghost image was the first frame cut to 35% of it's full resolution, then focus merge was used to create this effect without having a ghost on the hummingbird feeder itself. Experimenting with the focus merge capability in AP has brought about some very interesting and delightful results. Unfortunately, being that I'm retired and have too much time on my hands my friends will be getting too many of my results. I am glad you liked the result and hopefully it made your day a little brighter to see this little wonder of nature. Mortimer aka Richard
  3. A short two frame burst at 1/4000 shutter speed, ISO 3200 and f/11 and the landing of this little female hummingbird shows more sense of motion.
  4. Hey, Alfred, I am glad you enjoyed my little flying friend. I used the settings indicated and took a five frame burst for all three photos. There wasn't a lot to do with post processing as I had caught this hummingbird at just the right time of day. However, I did go into Affinity Photo and took all three into Develop and reduced the background noise and then used the Clarity tool to enhance. After that, a simple use of the cropping tool and "bingo"... one nice bird shot. The hummingbird is my standard on how a camera is going to perform and whether or not I decide to keep it. My Nikon D5600 and Affinity Photo are both definitely keepers.
  5. This little girl tested my camera to the max. I'm glad she showed up. Nikon D5600, 70x300 lens, 1/4000 shutter speed, 4.8 aperture, 4000 ISO.
  6. I am less than a year into DSLR and almost two years with Affinity Photo. As Mr. Spock would say on Star Trek, " I find this fascinating, Captain."
  7. I've decided "against" upgrading to Apple's Monterrey OS as it is promoted only as an upgrade to social media application and sharing rather than an actual performance enhancer to my iMac system. As a victim of Identity Theft I am compelled to limit my exposure across any internet social media environment and have done so with good results and success. Does the upgrade to Affinity's 1.10.3 actually do anything for those who choose to remain on Big Sur and not download and use Monterrey?
  8. Hey, Sailor. Too old to like the concept of subscriptions? I will be 70 in just a few days, but I do wonder: Who is too old to accept the concept of subscriptions? But especially, subscriptions for something you've already paid for. Hugh Hefner would have gotten no where if after buying PlayBoy you had to have a subscription to look at the centerfold. I mean the girls weren't THAT good looking. Anyway, glad to see you here in the forum. Like you I've recently gotten back into photography. Now that I've retired its a hobby since I have way too much time on my hands. Why just two days ago I found out that my new camera works a lot better if I read the instructions FIRST. Who would have thought? Although Affinity Photo is my first love I got Publisher because I didn't have a decent text editor on my iMac and it has been a blessing. And if I may recommend; Designer is a program to bring up and TINKER with when you have nothing else to do. It will surprise you. Again, welcome aboard and wish you the best with your photography. Don't ever pass up a chance to experiment!
  9. Hi, TommyJ. Nice to meet you and welcome to the forums. It seems you are doing the Affinity Suites the same way I did. Photo first, then on to Publisher and leave Designer to have fun when the television is depressing beyond description. Because of AP I soon after bought a new camera (Canon Rebel T7) and began to get into the RAW photo technique. Although my new camera is only entry level I can really see a big difference in photo quality and design. I'm not George Masa, but I'm trying.
  10. Okay, Duane. I "think" I've figured this out and now can get the edited photos of Biltmore to you. Please keep in mind these are still a work in progress. Retirees are easily distracted when concentrating on projects. LOL.
  11. Hey, Andrea! Glad to have you onboard at the forum. When I got the Affinity Photo program I had been looking for several months to replace a previous photo editor that didn't work on an Apple iMac. I knew I didn't want Photoshop or anything from Adobe, but boy was I surprised when I discovered Affinity. I'm glad my old program didn't work on a Mac. I see you've already gotten advise to start "small" with the suite and move up with experience and advice. I can't add anything better than that. But due to the delight I've gotten using Affinity Photo I actually went and got a much better camera. I have really got a great hobby now for my retirement years. The only thing I'm afraid of is that I'll get so good with it that someone will offer me a job and I'll be dumb enough to accept it. Currently, my favorite tool is the Inpatent brush. I've attached a couple of examples showing how I used it to "eliminate" pesky tourists who got into my shot at Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Good luck, Andrea. Nice to meet you. Richard
  12. Got rid of the "tourists" in this shot (about 12 of them) of a reception area at Biltmore Estate. *&)$@#! tourists. Always messing up my shot.
  13. Hey, Bruce, just got done watching that tutorial video on stacking and object rendering. The first thing I bought when the new camera arrived was a new tripod. NOW, I've got some really good reasons to keep it out of the box. thanks for the heads up, my friend.
  14. Nice to meet you, Ali. and happy to see I'm not the only retiree finding new life with photography. I got Affinity Photo first THEN got my first DSLR camera. Still new at it, but very amazed with it. My very first digital camera was a joke waiting for a punch line. I think it had .5 megapixels. Every photo I took I had to explain. Just yesterday I discovered Affinity Photo's InPainting brush. Oh, amazing. I took a trip to Biltmore Estate in Asheville last month and couldn't seem to get ONE photo that someone just had to walk into the frame as I clicked the shutter. Now, problem solved. I'm a kid with a new toy and not apologizing to anyone.
  15. Ahmed, With the experience I've had so far with the Affinity programs I tend to suspect they are working on a solution. Welcome to the Affinity community.
  16. Got a question, iSprocket! You say you have the two hardcover workbooks. I am toying with the idea of getting the AF book. IS IT a benefit or should I just keep on DABBLING?
  17. iSprocket (aka Christopher), I have used other photo editing programs over the years and have found nothing I enjoy using more than the Affinity series. I have all three programs now and in my retirement leisure (of which I have too much) I like to just DABBLE into the programs and experiment. Its amazing how much you can learn in such a short time when you go in "RELAXED". After getting into AF, I even got me a new camera and began learning about RAW photography. As the son of a professional photographer from the 1940s, 50s and 60s this digital age just amazes me. If my father had ever had digital equipment he's would have never slept upstairs again. Anyway, welcome to the AF family and glad to have you onboard. The forums are fantastic for finding answers. I hope you find all the answers you seek.
  18. The only thing I can see missing from the Brisbane shot is that you should have waited for the International Space Station to be in the night sky. I am impressed with this shot. Makes me want to do some night photography myself.
  19. After upgrading to a decent camera that can utilize Affinity Photo's capabilities I had no second thought of where to take my first photos.
  20. I'm probably on the wrong page again, but then I have trouble finding my way out of my own driveway somedays. I wanted to take a moment and thank everyone who lent me assistance as I upgraded my camera equipment and start to use the RAW capabilities of Affinity Photo. I had a brush with what is known as "Gray Market" ads and offers which I was able to avoid and therefore went to the proper source to secure a good entry level camera the Canon EOS Rebel T7. I've only had it one day, but the advice, comments and assurances given to me by the members of the forum is making the transition so much easier. I have taken some photos that were to me quite high quality in comparison to my previous equipment. However, I am tempting fate by attempting to upgrade my skills by photographing hummingbirds. NOT the most cooperative of subjects and they will not "watch the birdie". Ingrates!
  21. Somehow, while envisioning your quite colorful image the words "IRS Audit" keep running in a crawler below the screen. And the IRS doesn't come with a twelve second delay.
  22. NotMyFault, A photo of that scene? Oh, no.... I'm waiting for the movie to be released. That would call for the BIG popcorn with extra butter.
  23. Getting close with two choices for an entry level DSLR camera, but one omission I can't seem to find an answer to... Does anyone know if a shuttler delay comes with most if any of these cameras? My previous cheapo cameras always gave me a 12 second delay to click the shutter button and dash into the photo with everyone else. I can't seem to find if that's an option in the menu for any of these dslr packages.
  24. Thank you for reminding me, Psenda. I got so into looking at the entry level Nikons and Canons I completed forgot to go and look at Olympus. Ah, getting old isn't as easy as I thought It would be.
  25. I do so appreciate the comments and suggestions. No where but the forums could I count on it with this level of expertise. I hope to read more. Got a lot to think about.
