jrr52 reacted to dmstraker in Cartoon effect with AP
Update: Convert edges layer to b/w and add Gaussian Blur (adjust to taste). So sequence is now:
Layer/Duplicate layer. Filters/Detect/Detect Edges. Layer/Invert. Layer/New Adjustment Layer/Black & White Layer/New Live Filter Layer/Gaussian Blur (radius 1 or vary to taste) Blend Mode: Colour Burn. Add Curves above it all and pull up midtones. Play with Opacity to vary strength of effect. Worked better in some images. Gaussian Blur reduces cartoon effect and copes with irregular edge detection.

jrr52 reacted to crabtrem in Simple Cartoon Effect
I haven't seen this before, so I figured I would share. This is a simple cartoon like effect. This is similar to the pseudo cell shading tutorial by Affinity, but that's because they used the edge detect tool too. So for what it's worth here we go.
First copy your background layer, CMD-J
Go to Filter, Detect, Detect Edges. Set the blend mode to subtract.
Add the adjustment layer, posterize. Adjust the levels for taste. My example uses 4.
That's it. Now you have a basic cartoon stylized picture. You can use all sorts of additional methods from here. But this seems a good starting point. Hope you find something useful in this. Cheers.

Check which file format your t-shirt fulfliment house takes. Usually, a png of around 2400px x 3000px will do the job.

jrr52 reacted to smadell in Luminosity Masks for Adjustment & Filter Layers
NormanPCN...
I tried to recreate this problem and - what do you know? - I imported an empty category too! Long story, short - when I renamed the category to omit characters such as "/" and "&" the macros exported and re-imported without a glitch. Maybe you'll want to try it again.

jrr52 reacted to smadell in Luminosity Masks for Adjustment & Filter Layers
About a month ago, I posted a number of macros for creating Luminosity Selections. These macros acted only on Pixel and Image layers, and could be used to create masks, adjustment layers, filters, etc. Today’s macros are a follow-up set, and are created to act on Adjustment Layers and Live Filter Layers.
These macros apply Blend Options to the adjustment and filter layers to produce the same results you would get with traditional luminosity selections and masks. However, these changes can be viewed in real time.
Instructions (see attached pictures):
1) Create an adjustment layer or a live filter layer like you normally would.
2) Apply the effect that the layer provides.
3) Now, click one of the Luminosity Blend Options macros to restrict the adjustment or filter effect to a luminosity range.
Notes:
1) Each macro restricts an Adjustment Layer or a Live Filter Layer based on the luminosity of the underlying composition - that is, the visible pixels in layers below the one being restricted.
2) NO additional channels are created, so files don’t become bloated.
3) Once you apply a macro to an adjustment or filter, you can change the luminosity restriction by choosing a different one, AND you can see the updates in real time. (For instance, if you want to darken an overexposed sky by applying a Levels layer, create the Levels adjustment layer and apply the “Lights 1 for Adjustments & Filters” macro. If you have affected too many of the midtones and darks, select “Lights 2 (or 3, or 4) for Adjustments & Filters” to restrict the adjustment toward lighter and lighter pixels.)
4) There is an additional macro called “Reset Blend Options to Normal” that will undo any changes the other macros have created, and return the Adjustment or Filter layer to its normal function.
Caveats:
5) Do not apply these macros to your baseline photo. They will not have the desired effect. These macros should be applied to Adjustment and Live Filter layers that are situated above the photo they are modifying.
6) As with my previous set of macros, I am one person with one computer. Obviously, I have not tested these macros in every possible situation. Use them if you like them. No guarantees are made.
7) If you like them, they are yours. Consider this to be “pay it forward” software. Enjoy it.

Edit (Dec 7, 2016) - The afmacros zip file below has been replaced with a new file, named differently. This is in response to the post which follows this one. The edited attachment should work better (or, should I say, it should simply work).

jrr52 reacted to Alfred in Photo: How to create t-shirt mock-up templates?
Open a photo of a plain white T-shirt and add a Fill layer with the colour that you want. Set the blend mode of the new layer to ‘Multiply’ so that the white areas of the T-shirt become coloured but the greyscale pattern of the wrinkles remains visible. Add the logo art on top.

jrr52 reacted to arangast in Fuji Film Simulations
Hello, I've created some HaldCLUT profiles based on Fuji's film simulations that work great with Affinity Photo's LUT adjustments.
Simply create a LUT adjustment, select "Infer LUT" and in the first dialogue pick "Hald CLUT Identity 12.png" and in the second your chosen simulation. You can then save the adjustment as a profile for quick use in the future.
You can read more about them here: http://blog.sowerby.me/fuji-film-simulation-profiles/
Enjoy!

I decided to remove old trials and pack anything into a new format
Waiting for something like this
This is the DAUB Film Grain Macro with rigged parameters and non-destructive approach.
Download Here
To use it just install using Import Macro from Library Studio and click on it.
You'll be prompted with the following sliders:
First/Second Grain layer > Allow to manage the size/randomness of your grain
Grain Intensity > The level of micro contrast
Grain Smoothness > Further softness refinements if needed
You can also set a blending mode.
When you confirm, the filter creates a new layer, that you can further manipulate with Blend Ranges, adding a mask... Etc...
If you want to contribute I can share the equations behind this, I'm not as skilled as I would in maths...
I decided to remove them since they seem to frighten users a bit... :)
So any feedback to improve it is welcome! :)

jrr52 reacted to Craig Deeley in Textured pack 03 Intensity brushes
I am posting a third set of custom Textured brushes for Affinity Designer:
Textured pack 03 Intensity brushes (zip file - big - 30+mb)
These are more remakes of custom brushes I created for Expression3 back in 2004-2007. Plus quite a few new custom brushes and variants.
This set is also a continuation of the previous sets posted. Strokes developed with a moderately organic, mostly (un)natural media, water or oil based pigment like art approach in mind. There is a big variety of brush "looks" included. None of these are strict emulations of traditional media effects. Each is a little "digital" in its own way. There are quite a few wash stroke variations in this set and a few wild cards.
There are quite a few additional rugged drawing/wet inking brushes as well.
There are also several brushes with raged, dashed or random textures.
Example images of the strokes are attached here.
Hope the user base here finds this third set interesting and useful.

jrr52 reacted to paolo.limoncelli in DAUB LiquidInk Tools and Macros
Hi Folks!
Here I am with a freebie.
This little project starts from the need to have a tool that mimics ink tension and viscosity.
In order to do this, and make it easy to use in AffinityPhoto I needed macros, and finally these are there!
You need AP 1.5.x in order to make it work!
Download the package here
How this combo works
The technique relies on Adjustment Curves and some special tools designed to keep anything non destructive.
Tools are simple stupid brushes that together with custom ramps deliver a viscosity effect on crossing lines, resulting in a credible feathering effect.
This happens only if used together with the layer stack generated by included macros.
To use them import both Macros (from Library Studio) and Tools available in the package, create a new document and click one of the effects (Ink and Wet Ink) form the Library Studio.
AP will create a layer stack composed of the adjustment, a fill layer (needed to make this adjustment work) and a pixel layer which is where you want to paint.
These tools are designed to work best for black inking.
If you want you can play with other colours too, just be aware of the clipped results you will obtain.
You can always re-colour your layer with further adjustments.
Hope you'll enjoy!

jrr52 reacted to paolo.limoncelli in Helpful explanation of the difference between Brush Flow and Brush Opacity
Yes, these values are the very same between these applications.
A stroke is composed of N dabs repeated along its length.
Flow controls single dab(*) opacity
Opacity controls the whole stroke opacity
Both can be combined achieving rich media effects
An analog comparison:
To have a Wash effect use Flow (Translucent) To have a Glaze effect use Opacity (Transparent) Currently AP can control Flow via tablet pressure (Flow Jitter), but not yet Opacity.
PS can control both.
In AP there is another way to achieve a credible glazing, setting the blending mode to Average.
(*) A dab is basically a brush profile, named nozzle in Affinity
