  1. Hi, I'm creating a calendar with bleed and cannot work out how to set up a 13 page document (cover page plus 12 pages) as single pages. When I add extra pages, the app insists as setting them up as spreads. Any ideas? Cheers, Paul Zab
  2. Hi, I would like to see Grey Component Replacement, Under-Colour Removal and Dot Gain be added to Affinity Photo. Important for controlling the K (black) plate in CMYK printing. Apologies in advance if this is already covered – I posted in the forums but got no reply (as below). In Affinity Photo, how do I manipulate Gray Component Replacement (GCR), Under Colour Removal (UCR) and dot gain settings? In Photoshop, it is accessed via the ‘Color Settings’ dialog box, go to the ‘Working Spaces’ part of the dialog box, click the drop-down menu for CMYK and select Custom CMYK. Vital for controlling the important black plate (channel) on press. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/43357-pre-press-–-gcr-ucr-dot-gain/ Cheers, Paul Zab
  3. Hi, Thanks for the suggestion and next I use Affinity Publisher, I'll try changing that preference in the Resource Manager. Having said that, I don't have any images in the document for now. I've had to recreate it in InDesign. Cheers, Paul Zab
  4. Hi, It keeps crashing for me as well. I have a 14 page document with master pages, text styles and linked text boxes. No images at this stage – just text and a few boxes. When I go to paste copied text or sometimes just hit the space bar – it crashes. It's crashed 5 times in less than 10 minutes. I have Affinity Publisher Beta (just downloaded this latest beta update today) on a Mac Pro mid-2010 with mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6. Processor 2.8GHz Quad-core Intel Xeon with 10GB RAM. Cheers, Paul Zab
  5. Hi, I back this suggestion but I'm also glad the HSL filter/tool has changed to this colour picker wheel interface in this latest update. Cheers, Paul Zab
  6. Hi, I find this tool handy for fashion and portraiture work where I want to highlight the model. It saves me having to create a shape (no big deal anyway). In addition to the exposure, hardness, scale and shape functions within this filter, a rotation (in degrees) function would be handy also. Perhaps combined with the ability to rotate it 'by hand' with our mouse would also be good. And then to drag it's centre point around so we can position the vignette where we desire i.e. so it doesn't have to be anchored to the centre of the image. Cheers, Paul Zab | paulzabphoto
  7. Hi, I'm just about to send an advertising brochure to a commercial offset printer. It's a short print run and they'll probably print it digitally but anyway . . . I'm using the lighting filter inside Affinity Photo and I'm getting banding circles resulting in an unsmooth gradient. I made a high resolution PDF of the file as that is what I'll be sending to the printer's pre-press department. The issue still can be seen on the PDF. I've attached a screen shot below though the issue may not show itself in the screen shot. I'm running macOS Sierra 10.12.4 on a Mac Pro – mid 2010. 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 10GB 1066 MHz DDR3 and graphics ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB. Just wondering if anybody else has encountered this and if you found a solution. Cheers, Paul Zab | www.paulzabphoto.com
  8. Hi Miguel, Many thanks for your efforts. Rasterising eliminates the existing bleed so I have to re-introduce the bleed. But it does keep the effect produced by the lighting filter – thanks. I’m aware of converting text to curves but, as I come originally from a pre-press background, this is not always successful with type of a small point size. It seems to be working with my artwork in this case but it’s certainly not the preferred method. I hope the devs are putting these types of issues as very high priority for the sake of credibility of the software. I’m very happy with Affinity Photo and Designer as all the stuff I have produced so far has been for web but this project and some upcoming ones I have will be going to an offset printer. Also looking forward to Affinity Publisher in its beta form. Cheers and thanks again, Paul Zab | www.paulzabphoto.com
  9. Hi MEB & Wosven, I have uploaded the files to the link suggested by MEB – many thanks. Because the file is going to an offset printer, the file is set up in CMYK with the Coated FOGRA 39 profile. That’s why, in the PDF export settings, the nominated colour space is “As document”. Perhaps the lighting filter doesn’t work in CMYK when exported to PDF? I don’t want to rasterise everything because that means the type will be rasterised and that should remain vector – for best quality. I have chosen to embed all fonts in the PDF settings. I appreciate your help with this issue. Cheers, Paul Zab
  10. As you can see, the lighting effects filter has not worked and the fonts haven't either. Cheers, Paul Zab
  11. Hi, It's still not working, so I've attached screenshots of: • what it's supposed to look like with the lighting filter; • what it looks like after exporting to PDF; & • the PDF settings used. Cheers & thanks, Paul Zab
  12. Hi, Thanks for those last couple of suggestions. I will check my Export/PDF settings and try again. If it still doesn't work, I'll put the file up.
  13. Anyone got any further clues re. my other question above: I just made a CMYK high resolution PDF of this file and the lighting filter/gradient effect is gone i.e. it's just as if I created a solid rectangle. The effect of the lighting filter has been eliminated after making a press-ready CMYK high resolution PDF. Cheers, Paul
  14. Thanks, Wosven. Cheers, Paul Zab
  15. Thanks Chris_K, carl123 and Wosven for your replies. I just made a CMYK high resolution PDF of this file and the lighting filter/gradient effect is gone i.e. it's just as if I created a solid rectangle. Is that also because of going to 8-bit? Any ideas? Cheers, Paul
  16. Hi Guys, Thanks for your replies. Yes carl123, the banding circles appear in the blue area. Having a look at the uploaded screen shot of the image on the forum here, I can see the effect slightly. No doubt at high resolution and in print, I'm fairly certain this problem will be even more pronounced. I'll experiment with a few options. If I have any success, I'll post my solutions here. Cheers & thanks, Paul www.paulzabphoto.com

Clipping mask creating lines going through photo

Hi MEB, Your solution worked – thank you very much! I'll be sending this to an offset printing company, hopefully within a month. I have other pieces of advertising material also with this image, so I'll make the same changes with those. I really needed this issue resolved. Great work Cheers, Paul Zab
  18. Hi, I’ve created an A4 flyer to advertise my wedding photography business. On one of the photos, I’ve created a clipping mask to crop out the top part of the photo. What this has done is to introduce unwanted horizonal and vertical lines going through a part of the top right-hand corner of the photo. The horizontal line is 13mm from the top of the mask and vertical line is 6.4mm from the right edge of the mask. There are also two other vertical lines towards the middle of the photo. These unwanted lines are showing the background orange colour of the document to show through the photo. When I turn the clipping mask off, the lines going through the photo disappear. I tried putting only that photo into a new document to try and work out what’s causing the problem but that didn’t help either. I’m working on mac OS Sierra 10.12.4 and Affinity Designer 1.6.1. I've included a screenshot of the problem. Any ideas on what’s causing this issue?
  19. Hi, I’ve created an A4 flyer in Affinity Designer to advertise my wedding photography business. When exporting to PDF, one of the photos disappears. I have a feeling it is related to another problem I’m having. See: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/57785-clipping-mask-creating-lines-going-through-photo/ I’m working on mac OS Sierra 10.12.4 and Affinity Designer 1.6.1. Clipping mask creating lines going through photo

Hi MEB, I've uploaded the file. Sorry for the delay – just been flat out. The uploaded file is common to both problems. Cheers, Paul Zab

Hi MEB, Thanks for your reply. And yes, if you could provide an upload link to keep it private – that would be great. Cheers, Paul Zab

    Layer naming/renaming failure

Hi, I've also had this problem for quite some time but haven't got around to commenting here on the forum. Cheers, Paul Zab
  24. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/36155-dark-exports-with-new-batch-job-using-new-hdr-merge/#comment-258231 I’ve posted this here because it has been in the ‘Bugs on Mac’ forum since February. People have replied but no official response to what is a serious bug. Batch processing is a fundamental part of a high volume workflow and the ‘New Batch Job’ command doesn’t work properly. When using it, whether on multiple files or just one file, the batch processed files are coming out way too dark whereas when I export individual files to jpg using the Export command, they're fine. When using the ‘New Batch Job’ command, it looks like I've duplicated the layer and used the Multiply blend mode. Some feedback (with a timeframe) from Serif would be reassuring as singularly exporting hundreds of files is not ideal. Do any of the moderators have updated information from Serif on this bug? Can this issue get escalated and quickly sorted? Cheers,
