Denny got a reaction from iuli in Designer and Photo crash when dragging file via Universal Control
    Thanks iuli!
Upon first reading your response I didn't think it would be helpful because file sharing between the two devices via Universal Control and drag/drop is actually working fine in other ways. I've been able to drag back and forth between them using different apps with no problem. It was just the two Affinity apps on the iPad that was causing those apps to crash. But I tried the suggested solution anyway and it does indeed fix the problem for those two specific apps. With that option off I can now drag files from the Mac to the Affinity apps on iPad with no crash.
    Thanks again!

Hi, I accidentally found this article https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/700925 called “Universal Control can’t drag and drop files across devices”
The solutions seems to be as follows: “It turns out to be a problem with the settings. To solve this, you can go to iPad Settings - Accessibility - Touch - AssistiveTouch. Find Perform Touch Gestures and switch it off. Then you'll probably find Universal Control works properly.”
    All the best!

I am sure Ash will update us all soon enough, but I am not this pessimistic. I have seen StudioLink on an iPad Publisher alpha and it working fine so far.

It is possible. Draw the shape then select the frame (not the artistic text tool) then double tap in your shape which will convert the shape into a text frame. Type your text.

    Hi Denny,
This looks like a known issue that is currently logged with our developers to be fixed in a future version. When you go to export before writing anything in the dimensions fields please unlock and then lock the aspect ratio (click the lock twice) and then enter your values into the dimension fields. This should hopefully solve your issue in the short term
    Thanks

Denny reacted to pragmaticleas in Please increase select precision and accuracy (eg. node tool)
Currently when some selectable points or curves (things) are close but not overlapping, a precise and accurate tap and drag of a desirable thing would often result in the tapping and dragging of another thing close to the desirable one instead.
For example, when using the node tool on a curve made with the pen tool, and I want to tap and drag a node or curve, I often end up selecting a bezier handle instead, so I find myself very often having to undo and zoom in a lot to select and drag the thing I want and zoom back out afterwards. This really limits the productivity when using this software.
If this aspect could be improved, it would be much appreciated as I can then achieve more in less time and with less frustration.

    Two points.
    1. If you have an inDesign document you don't have to PDF it firs and then open it in Publisher. You should be able to just copy the text in inDesign and paste it into the Text frame in Publisher. This operation brings with it all the text as well as all the styles, which is nice.
    2. With the latest Publisher beta you can now use GREP to search for carriage returns and swamp then with a space.

As far as I know they are working on it but because Publisher hasn't reached the feature complete stage yet it's hard to guest when this will happen and whether it's going to be available at launch or a bit later.

Denny reacted to KTDN in Please develop a Live Trace like feature
As great as Affinity Designer is, and as much as I love using it, I can’t stress how necessary and useful it would be to have the ability to “Live Trace” bitmap images for conversion to vector. I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the few major features holding Designer back from becoming a true Adobe Illustrator replacement.
It’s no secret that many iPad users love using bitmap only applications like Procreate to create their initial designs and later, are looking for ways to to convert these into vector versions. Including a tool like this would make starting in bitmap and finishing up exclusively in vector so much easier and more possible using only the iPad than ever before.
Please, consider a Live Trace like feature for a future update and please like &/or comment if you also believe a feature like this would be useful in your workflow!

Hello! I volunteer at my local rural library in Missouri and was asked to do a flyer for  a basic photo editing workshop here by a fellow local Affinity user who will be demonstrating Affinity Photo. Super excited to meet a fellow local Affinity user. Thought I’d double check that it is okay to use your logo on the flyer.
    Flyer is attached!

Thought I’d chime in on this as it really is a pain. Even with an Apple Pencil and even clearly selecting in the middle of an object the result is than handles are moved to adjust width or height rather than the object being moved. The only solution is to zoom WAY in. Probably adds 10% (maybe more) to the time it takes me to do any project with such elements. And just makes the process frustrating.

    Please, please fix!

I've posted before about file sizes and am still curious. I've recently used Affinity Photo to put together an 11.5 x 9" mailer for a client and was astonished that it was nearly 400mb. By comparison the same design in Pages is about 23mb. Attached screenshots show just the front side. On the Affinity document there is a second layer for the backside, on the Pages document it is a second page but in both cases the backside is fairly similar to the front side consisting of several images and various boxes and text.

As much as I love using both Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer I'm afraid I'll start shying away from using them if they are consistently producing files of that size. When I've got a bit of time I might try assembling the same flyer in Photoshop and InDesign to get an idea of file sizes in those apps.

    See attachments.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Fantastic and  very helpful information Ben. I can deal with that kind of file size far better - that's a incredible decrease in storage use and exactly what I was hoping for.

Thanks again, MEB! Tried it and it worked; I did have to go in and try to make some adjustments (not completely successfully) to blur and opacity and it still isn't the quite same as the first one was in Designer - but the exported .jpg is a lot better. (I tried to improve the text a little  as well.)
