This model of tool selection fall flat on its face the moment text is involved. Hitting the V key to switch back and forth works until you have some text selected. This is where I often have to hit the Escape key 3 times to deselect the text object and move onto the next.
 
As I’ve requested before, making the command key a hot key for the move tool while text is selected would help immensely. That way I could select another object, or click elsewhere to deselect the currently selected text object.
 
I’ve been doing a lot of flyer design work with Designer in the past couple of weeks and it’s becoming more and more frustrating compared to everyone’s favourite competitive application. Designer’s tool and object selection scheme is just plain slower for design and layout work.

This is exactly what I don’t want to happen. I want the V key to switch me to the Move, and stay on the Move tool with subsequent presses. It doesn’t save me any time compared to pressing the A key to switch to the node tool.

I want the V key to select the move tool, and that’s it. I do not want it to rotate between tools, which leaves me frequently checking to see which tool I’m using, or doing something I didn’t intend.
 
This and Command not acting as a hot key for the move tool (and instead having to mash the escape key furiously) are easily the two most frustrating aspects to my use of Affinity apps, which I otherwise love.

I want also an option to deactivate this cycle.
Sometimes the cycling is helpful, eg fast switching between colorpicker / brush... but this is only valid DURING a process. After 3 minutes i did not use it, i have forget this "combination" and i´m confused about my brush... till i recognize its not the brush, its the dodge....
This cycling between 2 tools is just useful for a specific situation, so it would be nice if i could this activate, eg. by selcting two tools with right-mouse, or shift-key...., but if not and as normal behavior: The normal v-press (or whatever) should be always the move-tool (or whatever), does not matter which tool i had before. To deactivate just disable in the kontext-bar of each tool, the "link-option".

Am I missing a rubber band option for the standard bezier pen tool in Designer?

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve option clicked an object in the Layers panel, thinking I’ve duplicated it, continue working, then realize the item I thought I’d duplicated is the one I’ve modified. 
 
Extra request: When I option click and drag an object on the artboard to duplicate and move it in one action, it’s super weird that undo does not remove the duplicate, it just puts it back in the exact same spot as the original item. This has resulted in me having objects duplicated within my document without realizing it until much later, and wondering where they came from.

Regarding your #2 question, if I click on any part of the text in a text object with either of the text tools, that puts me in text edit mode in that object, with a blinking text cursor at the position I clicked on. It does not create a new text object. Unless the text object is already selected (its bounding box is visible) the click must be on the text itself, otherwise this will create a new text object.
 
Regarding the feature request, I'm not sure if you want tapping the command key to immediately select the Move tool or just switch to it while the command key is held down & then revert to the text tool when it is released, similar to the way the space bar can be used to temporarily switch to the View (hand) tool when not in text entry mode.
 
Using a command key tap for an immediate tool change would be problematic since it would interfere with some standard text functions like paste (cmd + V) or switching to bold (cmd + B) or italic (cmd + i) text style, to say nothing of the undo command (cmd + Z). As a temporary toggle function, it might be useful to move some other object out of the way, but it isn't needed to move the currently selected text object since just moving the pointer to the text bounding box automatically temporarily enables the move tool functions.

Cmd-click on the objects to select it no matter if in a group or another layer.  Making sure the all layers button is pushed in, I believe. Shift-cmd-click for selecting multiple items.
 
If I understand your question, the text tool you can select text without first selecting with the move tool.  Or at least I can.  With the text tool, I select on the text object I want, then drag to select the text. You may just have to practice.

Hi Bond,
I had the same issue with a multi-artboard document, and finally figured out that the export doesn't work, when objects overlap from one artboard to another, even when they are not visible.
I solved the issue by moving the artboards further apart and cutting of images, that were bigger than my artboards.

PS. I’m experiencing this behaviour with the latest Designer Beta too.

I was excited to install El Cap to enable split view with Affinity Designer, and an email with feedback from a client. Designer take up ⅔ of the screen fine, but when I select the Mail.app email, the email takes up my full display *behind* Designer, which totally obstructs the content of the email.
 
I don’t think this is necessarily a bug with Designer, but just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and if there are any work arounds.

Currently there's no way to select and delete a segment directly. You have to select the nodes surrounding it with the Node Tool and break them using Break Curve from the Action section in the context toolbar. Then you can delete it as usual.

There's no rubber band preview in Affinity Designer for the Pen Tool.
I'm moving this to the Feature Requests section.

I’d love it if panel menus popped in the direction in which they have adequate space to display themselves, rather than only popping down, forcing the user to scroll, as seen in the pic. In this case, popping up, instead of down.

If working with Illustrator files is so important for you, why don't you stay with Adobe products ?
 
If your expectation from another software from a different company is to continue to work without any change, I think you're missing a point.
In an ideal world, Affinity product shouldn't become 100% compatible with Adobe file format but Affinity file format should become a new standard for professionals, with Adobe ones.
 
We can clearly read your frustration with those problems but Serif has some terrific products, but different ones. Even if Adobe is a reference (being around for 25 years helps a bit) I'm not expecting AD or AP to be a perfect clone of their products, which means working differently, different logic in the tools and... different format files to work with.

Is it possible to control the amount of opacity with a Wacom pen? In the advanced brush settings I only found controls for brush size, flow, etc. Is the "flow" setting comparable to opacity?
