I don't know but this is pretty much the reason I would no longer recommend any affinity software to anyone.
Yeah Photoshop sucks for having become a service as a product thing but at least they still develop and evolve.
This thread has been open for 6 years, constantly active and totally reasonable as a feature request
and its the second feature that I've basically been waiting on for years to at some point be integrated.

It feels like they made Photo and Designer six years ago and ever since just fixed a few bugs
while competitors kept improving their products

These days there is a lot of free or cheap one time payment editing software and I feel like
Affinity has had its peak days long ago

As I stated in the post at the beginning of the thread, I use IcoFX version 1.6.4 (the latest Freeware), which is quite sufficient for my purposes.
I will export as individual png images (in addition to just changing the size / resolution, which I solve using the export slice settings, it is sometimes necessary to modify the displayed details and shapes, so it is a completely different image), which I then place in IcoFX in the appropriate *.ico file/container.

many developers still need to support ico format, for making windows apps. I just spent hours trying to get a good result in multiple online generator, found ico format internally supports either bmp or png format, png mostly for large resolutions, and the png used always causes the icons to look better, plugin able to make multisize (16x16, 32x32, 64x64, 128x128, 256x256, 512x512 - all in one file) would be a great thing to have - if there would be a low priced plugin,  like say 1.99 eur, i believe many ppl would be willing to try it on that price, if u provide sample of how well it performs... if any able dev reading this can make such plugin, let me know, i buy one for my affinity photo too, tired of alway going online, hoping the servcie i found to be ok last time, still works
just for reference, last time  https://redketchup.io/icon-converter  was great for me, u can choose the sizes, and there is the option for internal format (bmp or png), probably the png is supported only since some version of windows, but i believe on win10 that is what we want

A true ICO file is usually a collection of versions of an icon at different sizes but some software that ‘requires’ *.ico files will happily accept renamed PNG files.

+1. It would have been great if you could export to .ico from Affinity Designer, for websites.

+1 for this. Surely it's a standard use case for vector graphics software.
