I use the Migrate option that keeps the text in the newly modified pages.
Caveat: Don't expect it to work if you have done stuff like naming / renaming layers and adding Text and Picture frames. Fine for minor changes like you mention.

I am just guessing but those look like text frames when the text is selected with the node tool in use. Use the pan tool (the hand) or deselect the text layers.

The text has been imported as curves which means they have a fill and a stroke making them a shape. You can manually edit the outer nodes to make the shape appear thinner or try using the contour tool.
