pondball got a reaction from Mr. K in Hyperlink - Live URL Text Link
I just finished publishing our Photo Club's quarterly newsletter using APub.... yeah yeah I know... it's beta and don't trust beta, right! But, it worked!
The difference between the old version of this newsletter and the new one using APub is like night and day... and everyone noticed how much of an improvement there was. The only questions I got were from the ones who tried to click on some tips (hyperlinked) that had previously lead to web sites in previous newsletters produced in a WP.
Yes, I have a need for hyperlinks and no I don't want to have to use an external editor to accomplish that task, not only with this newsletter but with sports manuals as well.
APub is one of the cleanest Beta's I've come across. Like many others I eagerly awaited its arrival and like only some I seem to have understood that it is a work in progress. I do hope the progress includes hyperlinks...
... and pop-ups. In a graphic oriented publication like a Photo Newsletter or online Magazine I would like to see a hyperlink to a pop-up window such that when a photo is clicked in the publication it brings up a full screen (or sized window) of that image for better viewing.

Apologies if this has already been said,
but I love the old triangular Affinity logos! and I'll be sad if they are replaced with boring squares that look like something Microsoft created!
I need to look at beautiful things all day, this matters!
PS, can't wait until all three apps / personas are working together.

A good test of Logos and Icons is when they still work well when they are reduced in size. Try looking at your dock from an angle a long way across the room, you will notice how much better the old icons show up / can be easily recognised at a distance than the new one can. Favicons work out this way too.

Me personally am hoping the squares are for beta use only. Just to differentiate them from the original triangular ones.

Why do you claim Affinity is ignoring this feature?
The programm is not even release yet. It is available as a public beta version. It is obvious (at least to me) that the development team had to make a choice what can be accomplished in the first version and what not.
As it seems they have decided to start out with a feature set aimed at traditional publishing (in terms of print) first. It is said in this forum, that future development will also target digital publishing, too. I assume this can include epub, as well, even if I do not know this for sure.
    Cheers,

pondball got a reaction from jmwellborn in Find and Replace with Kerning embedded in Replace" - as a fix for missing letters in low res copy
I'm testing Publisher with a photography newsletter and two of my proofreaders immediately noticed that when a word contained the letters f and i together. When they viewed the low res copy I sent them for editing the i was always missing. I had been using Trebuchet as the font so I'm not sure if this is an issue when using that font only or with all low res exports from AP. On screen it is a very tight fit between the f and i as well so a simple 1% kerning between letters cleared that up nicely.
In any case I attempted to do a find and replace of all fi combos and replace it with a copied fi that had been kerned 1%. No go!
In this case I used the panel of found fi's within the search list to fix them all, but for a longer than 18 page issue of publication I am hoping this is just something I'm missing out on, or at least can find an alternate way of fixing the kerning globally in cases like this.
BTW... I know the Beta comes with warnings about being a beta and tester beware... but I have full faith in Affinity and blazed away regardless.... with the result being the most polished newsletter our club has ever produced... thanks to Affinity! No real issues throughout until I came to the f i issue... again, that may be me and not AP.
    Suggestions?

See? You started off fine by equating arrogance with frustration. I was ok with that.
Your second paragraph was ok, though you should remember there are few users in this thread. And they may not have your experience. So the choice is to set aside your frustration in order to patiently explain and at some point leave ir alone.
Or, you can like in the third paragraph, go on to prove my point.

Petar, I think we can give it up soon. Nobody understands us here. Too many fanboys and hobby designers here. They can not understand it, because most of them only played around for a minute with a cracked version of InDesign.

I am using Publisher to realize a project I began last year on another software platform which, tho decent, is not at the level of OS X and Affinity. I was very excited when a friend of mine told me about Publisher beta and said to myself, "...SAY, now!"
It's a collection of Autumn photos across 3 months: Sept - Dec taken nearly everyday, and the entire collection should give the feel of Autumn unfolding in slow motion.
There are 875 photos averaging 8MB each. Publisher file is now 1.92GB. I'm learning the software as I go, but I have about 25 years' experience with PageMaker, QuarkXPress and InDesign, so I have a sense of what I ought to be able to do.
So far no issues..not a squeak. All the tools I need, behaving the way I need them to. This is a beta..I'm sure the finished software will be great!

I suppose release version (1.7) will be print oriented, and possibly the next version (1.8?) would have interactive/digital features added (epub, pdf)?

This is the start of another most excellent Affinity adventure!
It appears to be worth the wait too!
I hope Beta users spend a few minutes going through your video tutorials as it will cut down on the number of inane posts here! The tutorial videos certainly explain about some of the features asked about already (i.e. personna, Affinity app integration etc) as well as gives those with some publishing background a quick and easy reference as to some of the key, basic features of Publisher.

A huge round of applause coming from this keyboard for the folks at Affinity!

Oh wow! Oh wow! Oh wow! ;-)

A big well done to the team! Publisher is a really superb piece of work, with features way in advance of what I imagined you would be able to deliver in a first release (I remember the launch version of InDesign, and how far it was from Quark Xpress — Publisher, on the other hand, seems almost no distance away from InDesign). And I love the way you’ve implemented some of the features, too, with the panache we‘ve come to expect from Affinity.

I can imagine some pretty long faces in San Jose this morning. Just please don‘t let Adobe buy you out because you’re killing their revenue stream!

    Great work!

    Hi Peter,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
Thanks for your words and support. Affinity Publisher is still under development. We were a little optimistic regarding its release date and due to some adjustments to our plans (Photo and Designer for iPad), Light UI interface and other non-planned additions to Photo and Designer it end up delayed a little more. There's still no eta but it's progressing well. We will announce it here in the forums and on social media as soon as the Beta becomes available.
