iKoma got a reaction from Patrick Connor in WIP: Eargasm
Today I have checked out as many tutorials as I could find and I thought it would be time to start my first project.
I am featuring this as a work-in-progress because I need some support.
This is not an original work. I used a photograph from Stefan Grosjean as reference (not sure if this is allowed, copyright-wise?) because it looked extremely simple to edit.
The women looks as if she is really enjoying some music - only the earphones are missing, which I will add digitally. ;)
My next work will be based on a drawing or photograph by me, but first I want to finish this for practice.
As you can see, my first difficulty is how to remove some of the background color. I used two large circles to color the woman. For the parts where the colors are correctly in place (e.g. lips) I created a filled area along the black lines. But this will be a problem if I decide to make the lines thinner. It will create a space between the line and the filled area. In this case, it won't be a problem because some of the lines are actually too thin. But I would like to know what the correct method of editing is for future projects.
I have attached the actual file for you to better understand what I mean because I am still lacking the necessary vocabulary.
The file needs a lot of polish, some lines didn't work out as smooth, but I noticed how the vectors got better (with less points) the further I got. It's actually a lot of fun!
The layers are a mess and lack groups. Sorry for that.
Secondly, I noticed when scaling the vectors, the line thickness doesn't scale along. Is there a way to make the line thickness scale with the rest of the picture? Say if in the future, I create a web graphic and decide to print it as a poster, how do i correctly change the image size?
Thanks a ton for your support!

iKoma got a reaction from Hiswe in Self-Portrait from Vectors
My girlfriend took a picture of me and I created a vector-based portrait from it. It looks simple but it wasn't for me. I'm still getting used to vectors.

iKoma reacted to paolo.limoncelli in Logo design in AD
My first pig farmer customer...
They are breeding a new kind of pig, strolling around ours hills freely.
The commission was about a logo to make a trademark.
After eating this (together with some red wine) I got the right inspiration....
I started sketching an outline, and harmonized it once in AD
Playing with booleans and node tool I defined main curves
And finalized the desired shape
This is the final logo

iKoma reacted to Hiswe in Illustration: Judgement Day
Original dimensions: 55x30cm in 300dpi.
Even with many pixel layers it was still ok on my macbook air… Some wheels from times to times but I was really amazed about how fast is this software :)

iKoma got a reaction from Freshblue in Live Monitoring
Very basic, mostly using outlines of a photograph of my work colleague. I decided to highlight his in-ear monitors, something people usually never pay attention to.

iKoma reacted to ronniemcbride in Black Ice WIP
So I have this client project for a legal department that want something "edgy" ( how I hate that word) Anyway, I wanted to try and pull of this fo 3d look. This is not final but this exploration taught me a little bit about the 3d effects in the fx panel. I will definitely have to play wit that feature more but it quite powerful!
This entire piece was created in Affinity Designer. I amazed by this application everyday!

iKoma reacted to Mik Kryger in iPhones flat mockup
Hey !
I've created some iPhones flat mockup. (you can download source)
Just moved from Inkscape to AD.
Working in Affinity Designer is just pleasure :) It's more comfy and intuitive.
Cheers!

iKoma reacted to MattP in PLEASE READ THIS: Sharing Guidelines
We've had a query about what is viewed as 'acceptable' content, and what our stance on it is.
This topic is one which is typically fairly volatile because everyone is so different and what is acceptable for one person, can be shocking or inflammatory to another. We don't want everyone to feel cautious about what they click, just in case they are faced with something they'd rather not see, but we also don't want to discourage people from sharing the amazing work they've been creating, so... We think the simplest, clearest thing to do is:
If you think your image could in any way be described as controversial...
- Start a new topic with an appropriate title
- Upload your image to a sharing site (Flickr, Behance, Instagram, etc) - you can even use the 'Share' link in the app's File menu
- Write a proper description of your work in the body of your post and add a text link to the image you have shared
Now, if people think they'd be offended, they just don't have to click the link and they won't see it at all.
Thanks,
Matt

iKoma got a reaction from Raskolnikov in Kudama from Mononoke
I'm not an anime or manga fan, but I heard so many great things about the movie Princess Mononoke that I had to watch the old Classic. All I could think of was creating the small wood habitants as vector.
Not really worth sharing, but it's my first ever vector graphic.
I didn't have time to check out any tutorials so I just observed the files that were included with the app.
Some parts are still very confusing to me (layer arrangement) but overall I think AD is still a very easy to pick up program. I'm definitely looking forward to improve.

iKoma got a reaction from ronniemcbride in Introduce Yourself
Thank you for the warm welcome. Actually there is one feature that I couldn't find in any tutorial yet and I don't know where to start looking.
I would like to know if Affinity Designer has the option to create a path on it's own if it's given any kind of reference.
I started redoing the phoenix bird by Japanese artist Hokusai digitally (with Photoshop), but unfortunately I did not use vectors. Before I start anew, is there any way I can use any of my previous work? I have all line brushes on separate layers and I would like AD to transfer my "black outline" into a path.
Edit: To make it more clear. I want these layers turned into paths without having to draw them myself (again):

iKoma reacted to Dale in WIP: Eargasm
Hi iKoma. Between her wrists and by her right elbow, you can create new shapes to cut out from the skin fill. Create a 'gap' shape, select it and the skin shape, then use Subtract from the Boolean operations on the top toolbar. Repeat for each cut out. You could do this for a third gap, between the fingers on the left hand. Well done on all the line work.
Edit: For best results, drag the shapes that will be cut-outs to just above the skin layer before performing the Subtract.

iKoma got a reaction from Dale in WIP: Eargasm
Here is the file. I edited it quite some more than I intended. There is one big issue that needs to be solved before anyone should attempt to send it to a printer. The layer "skin", which backs all of the woman, has two tiny line gaps. I couldn't figure out how to cut out areas and remove them from a fill, so I tried to move the lines around the gap, hoping they would overlap, but instead they negated. Sorry, I really don't know how to explain. Should become pretty obvious when selecting the layer.
I'm now looking forward to my first very own project.
BTW, here is the link to the original photograph: Sweet, Soft, Plenty Rhythm by stefangrosjean on deviantART

iKoma reacted to Lescot in 2. Illustration with AD, Full Version, 'In Love with Alice'.
Relaxed drawing of a classic topic. Wanted to get the outlines right so it took some time.
Used 2 different textured brushes for overlays and clouds. Half of them with a 50% Gaussian Blur.
Always thought that cat in the story is great - so it got a Martini ;)
