That would clip the cloud layer to the sun layer, so the parts of the cloud that lie outside the circle would become invisible. I think you need to do this:
1. Copy the cloud to the clipboard.
2. Subtract the cloud from the circle.
3. Paste the copied cloud on top.

Switch to the Layers panel and drag the layer with the cloud into the layer with the sun.
