wlayten got a reaction from malyKeri in El Capitan. Updated, and I still can't find my haze filter (under filters). :(
I may be one of the the last to update a software.. yet, I watched the tutorial on haze removal before updating, before I updated. And I can not seen to find the "Haze Removal" under the filter tab. Geez, (Silly me) I apologize. I'm uploading to
Aperture on my Mac Book Pro (giggles, a lot of pro and needed more book!).

So far over 4,500 of you have seen my other post about 3 tutorials for beginners - well this course goes much deeper and much further. As well as the 5 stages I spoke about on my YouTube videos (but in much more detail on the new course) I also cover tools and techniques that professionals use. I've been a designer for the best part of 30 years and in that time I've come to realise that there's a good way and a bad way to use the tools in any image editing program. It's this experience I aim to pass on to you. This is a 7.5 hour long, 50+ tutorial Affinity Photo course aimed at beginners. For an overview check this out - https://youtu.be/iSNpq01n3HQ

I'm aiming to give you the knowledge and the confidence to make your photos shine. I know what it's like opening up a new and complicated program and wondering what on earth you're supposed to do. I created this course bearing that in mind. I also aimed to cover all the bases a beginner needs.

Please note that I did not cover developing Raw files. The reason for that is because most beginners won't be using Raw files, so it didn't seem appropriate to charge for that. Instead I've charged less money for this course and I have the Raw development series in development now for which I'll charge a lower price upon release. So if you end up getting both, you'll end up paying the same amount you would have paid if I'd grouped them both together and charged more.

Hi, I'm Dale, copywriter, tech author, blogger, demonstrator and a few other things. I've joined the Mac lads (and ladies) so I can use and abuse Affinity titles and other Mac software and help make it shine on our website, in the press, and social media accts.

If you think the way Affinity apps are described is inaccurate or missing the point, hit me up and I'll make it better. If there's a tutorial you're desperate for, let me know and I'll raise it with the documentation team.

    Hi Hilary,

Nice to see you join up :) Good news about the new Mac! Which particular model did you go for (not that it matters - they will all work with Affinity - I'm just being nosey :) )?

Most of us here were novices 4 years ago when we started this project - it's nothing to worry about though, the differences are primarily cosmetic and I'm sure it won't take long to get up to speed with it.

This link is generally considered useful for "switchers" - https://www.apple.com/support/macbasics/pctomac/

Hi there, Sean!  :D I was just looking at Flickr a few minutes ago (for the first time in years!) and was just about to contact you! Great to see your name appear on the list and I'm sure Designer should work well on your MacBook Pro - I wrote a lot of it on my old 2008 MacBook Pro so there's been a lot of effort put in to make sure that it runs smoothly without needing the latest and greatest hardware.

Hi I'm Sean Riley,  I have been a long time user of most Serif Products more notably Drawplus and PhotoPlus and I have in the past been a tester for these products, but let my testing badge lapse due to family issues.  I have been using all Serif programs for the last 4-5 years on a MacBookPro via Parallels emulator and I was sent a message today pushing me forward to your beta test link for the new Mac Program that is Affinity. Gotta be a good development in the Serif make up.   I notice my old mate Matt is heading the testing - Great to see your name again bud.

I'm 53 in a couple of weeks and out of work at the moment awaiting a knee replacement perhaps later this year/start of next…fingers crossed then I can get back on a building site as an Electrician.  Hence the signing up to this little soiree.

     Good luck people!

    Hi wlayten,

Once you've made the selection on the image you want to copy from, along the top toolbar you have a button that says Refine, this will allow you to apply a feather to the edge of the selection which will soften it.  You could also use the Blur Brush tool to blur the edges once it's pasted.

I'd suggest giving some of the tutorials a go, over on:https://vimeo.com/macaffinity

The one on making selections has some great tips and by watching the others, you'll soon pick up other tricks :)

Hi Greiggy and Welcome to the forums

To copy a selection to a new layer, it should just be the case of making the selection and then CMD+C to copy the selection and then CMD+V to paste.  The selection should get pasted onto its own new layer.

I've attached a small screen recording to this reply which shows copying a selection from one picture and pasting it into another.

If you are still having trouble, let me know the steps you are taking and i'll be happy to offer further advice.

Just a quick update on this.  If this still isn't working, i suspect you will have opened an image and then used File>Place to put another image on top of the 1st one.  If you have done this, you will need to rasterise the image you placed on top.  Just right click on the Layer with this image and select Rasterise.  You will now be able to make a selection and copy the selection you've made.
