  1. Dr_No, I’m actually in the same boat, primarily because I use Pages 4.0.1 so much, I tried Pages 5.2 but they removed support for hyperlinks, a feature I use in many documents. I am not into upgrading to newer versions of any software I use, once I find a setup that works I stick with that as long as possible.
  2. Dr_No, No worries, previous message disregarded. I just looked closely at the information you have regarding your hardware and operating system, you are investigating purchasing Version 2, did you notice that Sierra is not a supported operating system? That’s why I’m not updating to Version 2, my Mac hardware and operating system are not supported.
  3. Dr_No, I just tested the “Pay as Guest” feature and it looks like Paypal has updated its interface. 1. On the Affinity store page for the product you want to purchase there are two buttons at the bottom, “Pay with card” and “Pay with Paypal.” Click the “Pay with Paypal” button. The “Pay with PayPal” window opens. 2. The “Pay with PayPal” window opens, click “Pay with Debit or Credit Card.” This opens the “Check out as a guest” window. 3. Enter your email in the “Check out as a guest” window and click “Continue to Payment.” 4. From there you enter your card information and billing information. I started to enter my Discover card number and it updated the credit card icon to show it was a Discover card. 5. Disable the “Save info & create your PayPal account” slider. The button below this will update and say “Continue as a Guest.” I didn’t proceed any further than this to confirm what the remaining steps are.
  4. Dr_No, You don’t need a Paypal account to pay as a guest, you should be able to pay using your Discover card using the option to pay as a guest through Paypal, that’s how I made my original Affinity purchase, here’s a thread on the topic: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/42030-unable-to-purchase-affinity-and-i-want-to-purchase-it/#comment-927428 The ATM card I have has a Visa logo on it, my understanding is that it can be used anywhere Visa is accepted, it will debit the purchase from my account balance. So if you have such a debit card that might be an option for you.
  5. Daredevil, I made my purchase using Firefox and didn’t have any problems. I just did a little test to see if I could order Designer, I added Designer to the Basket, clicked Checkout, then it took me to the Your Order Summary page. It let me sign in under the Existing Customer? tab and presented the fields for my credit card information or to pay using PayPal - basically everything seemed to be working fine. I also tried testing this as if I didn’t have an Affinity Store account, I entered an email in the New to Affinity? tab and it took me to a page where I could set up a new account. I didn’t take the process further than that. Again, everything looked like it was working. I have no idea what the Affinity Store site requires as far as minimum browser requirements. I know I can’t make purchases on Gumroad using this computer using Firefox or Safari but I don’t have any problems using my iMac, I assume because the iMac has a newer version of Safari on it. Maybe something on your computer is a little out-of-date?
  6. Yeah, there’s a pretty good chance if you had done a step-by-step tutorial that some people would have complained and said, “Dude, way too slow, speed it up next time!” :-) You communicated your workflow very well, I was pleasantly surprised that you even talked about the project brief and showed the sketches you did by hand. I rather like the fact that two people can achieve similar results in different ways - neither can accuse the other of doing anything wrong, they’re just working in the way that works best for each individually.
  7. Christi, I enjoyed the video just like it is, most interesting was the commentary, I was watching it to learn about your workflow, not as a tutorial on how to make the software work. As for your video serving as a demo of the software, it’s helpful for me to see you doing things that I’m not familiar with so then I say, “OK, he’s rotating the canvas while he works, I’ve never tried that before, how do I do that?” Then it took me about 15 seconds to search on YouTube and I found James Ritson’s video on that topic - I don’t need you to tell me how to do things like that. No complaints from me about the speed, the length of the video was just right for me. I guess when people say it’s too fast that’s their way of saying they like what you’re doing so much they want more, more, more - if that’s the case they can always watch it a second time at 0.25 speed! :-)
  8. You are so right about how those “imperfections” add character - kind of like the difference between manually drafted architectural drawings compared to something done in CAD. After making my post I found your Bands to Brands Affinity Creative Session video, it was cool to see how you took that design from a sketch on paper to the finished image. Oh, yeah, something I forgot to mention about The Changing Spaces cover is how you included the “breaking glass” around the figure, it’s a nice touch. It makes me think of a Frankentoon Studio design with tons of artistic graphic elements around the main figure - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jo26ojjHZtA - I look at it and it kind of blows my mind, I love it.
  9. Christi, All three of these are great, thanks for showing how the piece was developed. Regarding your reference to vector and raster work, did you use any straight guidelines or a grid to draw the helmet or did you freehand that without orthographic references?
  10. What about formZ free? I started looking for a new modeling application after SketchUp went to a subscription pricing model, I had seen some really cool models done in formZ (such as these by Jones, Partners: Architecture - https://forums.formz.com/gallery/album/103-jones-partners-architecture/) so I thought I’d give formZ a try. I downloaded formZ free then worked through the “30-minute Model” tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n0FGm3kw2I) and thought formZ was every bit as easy to use as SketchUp. The guy doing the tutorial (Matthew Holewinski) does an especially good job in my opinion, he has other formZ video tutorials, too. As for using Blender to model woodworking projects, maybe this video will be of interest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WW1QgAUayvY. Regarding the Blender interface seeming complex, just as with any new application the more time you spend using it the less complex it will seem.
  11. Naresh, Very strange that you were able to purchase Publisher then had trouble when trying to buy Designer and Photo - were you able to make the purchase? If so can you share how you worked around the problem?
  12. I can confirm that Leigh is correct, I just bought all three applications using a Discover Card via the PayPal Guest Checkout option. Payment as a PayPal guest is easy: the first PayPal screen has two buttons: “Log In” and “Pay with Debit or Credit Card”, click “Pay with Debit or Credit Card” then enter the card number and such. At the bottom of this screen it has two more buttons: “Create an Account and Continue” and “Continue as Guest.” Click “Continue as Guest” if you don’t want to create a Paypal account. I actually do have a PayPal account with the same Discover Card linked to it, I was curious to see what it would do if a PayPal user tried to pay as a guest - it processed my payment as a guest with no indication that it knew I had a PayPal account. Only downside is the purchase is not listed in the Activity screen of my PayPal account, no big deal, it’ll be on the Discover Card statement.
