It's a memory allocation crash. Crash occurs in a high pressure memory situation (try using a large file). It doesn't matter how old, or new, your Mac is.

Affinity Photo Doesn't display image. This occurs with saved JPG and TIFF files as well as newly created images in Affinity. See attached screen shot.
macOS 10.15.7 19H1217, late 2015 iMac Retina 5K, 3.2GHz i5, 32GB RAM, AMD Radeon R9 M380 2 GB. "Background" is checked in the Affinity Layers u.i. If I render an effect and export it, the new file is rendered and saved correctly, I just can't view it in Affinity photo.
Same files display correctly in the Preview app.

Hey Gabe, both times the app was running in the background, and I’m pretty sure no file was open. I was working in another app app when the Affinty Photo crashes occurred.
