I love Designer on the iPad. There are a few things, like my expected location of certain tools located in pull down menus vs. toolbars, but in all it’s pretty solid. In fact, I am now finding myself picking up my iPad rather than going to the desktop.

I get the importing of hand drawn art, but I’ve never had an auto trace work well enough were I didn’t spend more time fixing it than just drawing it outright over the imported image. Especially when you need to be concerned about specific colors and the number of colors.
Then again, I am a bit of a control freak and I like to keep my anchor points to a minimum.

I can’t remember when I last used the desktop version of Designer or Photo.
By the way, I hope you’ll consider reposting your wonderful drawing to the ‘Share Your Work’ forum. It would be interesting — probably mind-boggling! — to see the wireframe view, too.

This was an easy solution/fix, once I figured out what was happening. It seems that this only happens when copy/pasting something off of the page/artboard. (I often work off of the artboard then move into place). I falsely assumed that the copy/paste behaviors were the same on the artboard as off.

Hi MEB, back in the day and if memory serves, I had good luck exporting Xara files to either ai or eps. I also remember export CorelDRAW file to ai with some success. In both cases I believe they were exported as an earlier version of Illustrator, perhaps as early as 7. Would it be possible to have that as a export option in AF, to select an version, like Illy has?

Interesting. I just did a test, exported four different gradients as Postscript levels 2 and 3 and when opening in illustrator and AD all exported as bitmaps.
