  1. Ha, right. I thought I could select the top level of each layer in the stack, then find a function like “remove all effect”. But no. What I did was, while keeping the effects window open, I expanded each layer and group, selected objects within each layer/group, then unchecked the applied effects in the effects window. Still, it a bit time consuming but better than one object at a time.
  2. In Affinity Designer, does anyone know if there is a way to remove all effects from a drawing at once, instead of having to remove them one object at a time? I want to export to Illustrator (EPS or PDF) an illustration which contains gaussian blurs, and those would rasterize at export, and I want to keep it all "vector." Thanks SORRY, I figured it out. Does anyone know how to remove a topic? :-(
  3. I struggle to create gradient fills easily and efficiently. Here are the two methods that I use, and perhaps the only way. I'd be curious if someone out there has another method. Method one: Create object select "G" on the keyboard draw gradient Select the Gradient color box at the top toolbar make active a node on the gradient line select color from colour box Repeat steps 6 -7 for each node in the gradient line. Method two: Create object select "G" on the keyboard draw gradient Select the node in gradient bar Select Swatches tab in the docker on the right Select color in the Swatches pallet. Repeat steps 5 -6 for each node in the gradient line. Suggested Improvements: A) What I would like to see is the ability to double click on the color node on the object itself, not the node from the methods above, and by double click the node a swatches pallet opens for you to make your color selection. B) Another option would be to select color node, select the eyedropper in the tool bar and while holding the Shift key down select the color you want applied to that node. This method is great for sampling color from other drawings or reference images. I appoligize if there is another method alreay in place, I just haven't come across it yet. Thanks in advance. -Bill
  4. I feel a cup theme coming on. All done in Affinity Designer's Draw Persona, lot's of blur fx and transparencies. Ideally, I would have used a' blend tool' or 'blend along path' to created the equaliy spaced and repeating patterns, but AD doesn't have it. Soooo, I had to eyeball everything, and I now have a headache. :-)
  5. I hear they have the gradient mesh tool planned. Whether or not THAT will be compatible with ai is another story.
  6. Thanks Mithferion. Actually, I mostly eye balled it. I took a photo of the flat face (on the left side), foreshortened and skewed that then built everything off of that. Once I find the proper foreshortening proportions and basic objects, like ellipses, for each axis I just copy/paste down each axis. Example is the bottom of the carb, the o-rings, float, boat, bolt and threads. If I had used Grid and Axis manager things would have gone a lot quicker, but I wanted to challenge myself.
  7. Technical illustration of a carburetor from a small Subaru engine. The pressure profile for stroke widths makes thick/thin transitions easy.
  8. For now, anytime I need to provide a file as an AI (or even a good PDF) , I'll just create the artwork in CorelDRAW because I can't get anything out of Designer, at least not a print-friendly scalable vector. I don't dare think about trying to creating something for a large print job like a banner. Sadly this means I have to run Win10 on my mac just for CorelDRAW, which is stupid, but you do what you have to do.
  9. Thanks retrograde. It is all "vector" in that it was done all in Designer in the Draw persona, but I am a bit of a purist and if I exported it to a vector format (like eps or svg) I am sure a lot of elements would be rasterized since I used the Gaussian Blur fx tool quite a bit.
  10. Just to be clear up front, it's not that I want Publisher to open properly, it's that I want to reassign Designer as the default to Designer and Illustrator files. 1. Right click and selecting Designer as the application works as expected. Note that this does not change the default program. 2. Not sure what you are asking. 3. I don't care if handoff works, it's just that Publisher comes up as default app instead of Designer. If this is due to Publisher being beta I can either deal with it for now or uninstall if it become necessary.
  11. Issue 1: Some Affinity Designer files default open in Affinity Photo. Also, for some files, the icon associated with a Designer file show the Photo icon. Issue 2: Adobe Illustrator files are associated with Affinity Publisher. Trying to change the association creates the error " {file name} can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer." Issue 3: While working on an Affinity Designer file on my MacBook Pro, the Handoff icon on my iMac shows Affinity Publisher. I have attached some screenshots. Thanks in advance. -Bill
  12. I was afraid someone was going to ask this. Lol I worked on it off and on for about three days, whenever I needed a break doing my “real” work. Thanks Gabriel
  13. Thanks to Serif I officially pulled the plug on Adobe.
  14. There are no “incremental “ rollbacks but sorry, Apple Photo DOES retain adjustment and can be changed at any time. It’s the same process as Lightroom, On1, etc, a separate file is stored with, or associated to, the original image.
  15. If I understand correctly, if I edit an image within Apple Photos with Affinity Photo, regardless of the method (edit with or develop), all changes are saved back to Photos as a JPEG. The original RAW file is untouched and can be recovered at any time. However, unlike a DAM program including Apple Photos, or an independently saved file like Affinity or Photoshop, Affinity Photo does not save the development settings within Apple Photos. This means that I cannot go back later and remove or change certain adjustments. Not retaining adjustments (including layers) is a problem in my workflow. It doesn't look like Affinity Photo will integrate with Apple Photos as well as I had hoped. For now, and/or until Affinity comes up with a DAM of its own, or possibly a replacement for Lightroom, I will have to continue to use On1 and Affinity on occasion. Apple Photos will continue as a DAM for final out images.
  16. I could just say "Cool, thanks" and except that things will be OK. But I am just a little to paranoid for that so.... ...in summary: 1) Right click > Edit With Affinity Photo (or Image > Edit With > Affinity Photo) allows me to edit the RAW file in Affinity Photo Develope Mode and save it back to the Photos DB in the same way that Apple Photo save back the edited RAW file within its own application. 1a) Continuing to edit with AP in Edit mode and saving the photo (flattened) back into the DB creates a TIFF file? I am not seeing, or cannot find, a TIFF in the DB after saving. What I do see however is a JPEG in the AP file's title (see attached image), but I do not see that in the DB either, so where are these being saved? Just so you know, to search the DB I do one of two thing. Use Spotlight Search and/or with the Photos Library file Right-click > Show Package Contents, and search within that content. 2) Edit (extensions) > Affinity Develop saves the image back to the Photos DB in the same way that Apple Photo saves back the edited RAW file within its application. Note that I can still export the original NEF file from the DB, of course ________ Backstory: The wife and I just got back from Banff for a vacation. I initially saved all file to my iPad, and when I got home, I downloaded everything to my iMac to develop in On1. I kept finding myself going back and forth between Apple Photos, Affinity, and On1 depending on what I was trying to do with each photo. I now, of course, have multiple copies of the same image, which I will clean up later. What I found was that Apple Photos might be the best DAM, for me, if I can smoothly and reliably integrate Affinity Photo into the workflow and not have my DB and iCloud get out of hand. I have a 2TB hard drive with 2TB of iCloud storage. So far photos has only taken up 288GB, so I have a way to go. I also back up to an external drive via time machine and to Amazon Prime.
  17. How/where/what format does AP save edited RAW images from Apple Photos database? This includes both photos editing as an extension and using the Image > Edit with command. My concerns are the ever-increasing size of my local Apple Photos database and the syncing to other devices in the Cloud, and of course the Cloud size requirements. Based on this information I hope to calculate my photo storage growth needs then determine if it can be sustained "as is" or if I'll need to find another solution. Thanks
  18. Thanks, Walt. I'll consider this and see if I can output comparable images without too much extra effort. Time is money. :-)
