  1. Hi. Make sure that you «place» the PDF in your Affinity document and not to «open» the PDF with Affinity. And it is important to leave the setting «PDF Passthrough» as «Passthrough» instead of changing it to «Interpret». This way your placed PDF will show all the embedded fonts perfectly. No difference with Adobe, Illustrator is showing the PDF correct when «placed» in a document, but of course messes up the embedded fonts in the PDF when actually «opening» the PDF file. The matter hasn't got anything to do with Affinity. It's partly due to font licensing and stuff.
  2. Hi. No solution found, so I went through all the settings one by one. But since many tools and functions in Version 2 of the programs changed a lot or got newly introduced, it was a good thing to rethink the old settings anyway. Serif's developers did a huge leap with the products, great work! 👏🏻 (Didn't use the Migration Assistant because I needed to get rid of many outdated system preferences which haven't got anything to do with Affinity)
  3. Hi I recently installed Designer 2.0 and Publisher 2.0 on a Mac where I effortfully set up all the workspaces, application preferences and toolboxes to my liking. Now I have to transfer the Applications onto a new Mac. How can I bring along all the customized settings? Is there a specific location in the OS' preferences library where all the settings are saved? Moving the Affinity Folders from «Application Support» unfortunately didn't do the trick. Any suggestions? Thanks, Tom
  4. Hi Some letters specified as «superscript» via the S in Positioning and Transform (like in 1st or 2nd) are shown correctly. But as soon you apply a paragraph style, superscript is gone for good. That definitely is called a bug!
  5. Oops, I indeed overlooked that little + :-/ Trying to keep that field in the toolbox open in the future. Thanks a lot for the great help!
  6. Thanks Walt! Thanks Bruce! «Dreaded» might be the right label for the «Keep paragraph together» setting here. I considered myself as a Pro in terms of text layout producer, but honestly I don’t get the behavior of the settings. By the way, wouldn’t it be helpful to have a sort of a mark in the text style's name which tells you that there are overrides? Cheers Tom Related article here: > How can I keep paragraphs/text together in Affinity publisher?
  7. Thanks vor the advice according the filler text! But here we do not have a filler text anymore, we replaced it with «real» text. The problem keeps being the same. See attached new file. :-( Cheers Tom sr2.mov columns2.afpub
  8. Thanks Bruce, sorry for not getting it, absolutely my bad! Problem solved! T
  9. Hi We experience a funny text frame behavior and I wonder if somebody can help here, maybe we are overlooking some settings. In the attached document we have multiple linked text frames. For some reason the middle one does not fill up down to the bottom. While expanding the size of the frame, text content is not filling up ether but the text in the following frame is jumping wildly instead. See attached video. Thanks a lot! 10. Hi Sometimes we experience strange text behavior in text frames especially when text was imported into the document. For example in the file attached there is a right indent which we cannot change since the «Right Indent» shows the amount Zero. Are we overlooking something? Thanks a lot! strange-text-behavior.afdesign
  11. Hi Thomaso Tanks for you reply. Most of what you’re saying makes sense. And of course i can manually select and object and texts, but hey, we're not in the 90s anymore, let the computer do the silly work! The problem here is not how often you might use a certain function, but the problem lies in the philosophy of the software. It is very untrustworthy when you’ve bee let down in sort of a blind end in a workflow. An unfortunately there are quite a few in the Affinity tools. Working with global colours gives me the impression that I can change the at any time into any colour of my choosing. So I treat the global colour swatch as a link to a source with exact colour specifications. Just like i use a text style (-swatch) as a link to exact text specifications. Now say, i have linked my text to text style My Text, I would be very surprised finding out that although I can change my font from one .ttf font to another .ttf font, but I would not be able to link it to a .otf font for some reason. I have a list of comparable «small» but essential behaviors in Affinity which made me decide to extend the Adobe subscriptions for my teams, which actually is quite a disappointment for me since I spent a huge amount in getting into the programs. Of course I keep on watching how Affinity is developing in terms of how you can «trust» the tools. Best, Tom
  12. Hi Thomaso Say I have a brochure with multiple pages. The client's corporate colour red is used in all sorts of coloured texts and graphics. Now in order to have the specific red printed in a very deep red which cannot be simulated with CMYK, the client wants to change that colour into a Pantone-like fifth extra colour. In a Affinity Publisher's rival for example you simply change that colour into Spot, and Bob's your uncle! That indeed is daily business in a graphic design studio.
  13. Converting any colour into a spot colour is an essential feature! Without this possibility the software is not suitable for professional use.
  14. A workaround is to paste the PDF inside a invisible rectlangle instead of cropping the PDF. So it's actually a cropping bug.
