Importing PDFs
peterpica replied to peterpica's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Was afraid you would say that. Thanks! (Too much work redoing my InD filz). -
When importing PDFs, is there any way to have text paragraphs stay intact as paragraphs, instead of breaking into individual lines? I want to convert a ton of docs done in InD but can't do this way as would be too much work. Also tables come across with individual cells as line segments. Any solution for that issue too? Thanks.

PDF import issues
peterpica replied to peterpica's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Thanks all. Got this off a web source. Wouldn't have thought originator would use ligatures; must've been automatic in whatever program they used. -
Tried importing a PDF into Publisher... type in the original PDF actually was changed after importing. Seems to have an issue with the word 'after' as it changed it to ai er with an oversize 'i' in there. Uh-oh! ? ? ? Benefits of Quitting Smoking Over Time.pdf pdf import.afpub

Any way to crop a publisher page WITHOUT going back to the setup pages? I do a lot of FB pages 5x7, but many do not "fill" the area so I have to save as PNG than crop that file. Would like to be able to crop the publisher page then just export to a correctly sized png or jpeg.

I had same problem but found that the lines did not print. Strange.

Is there any way when opening a PDF table page that was done with InDesign's table utility that will maintain the table grid? I tried one simple table and it came over fine--size & dimensions of cells, etc., but all the rules, horizontal & verticle, were individual line segments. The box-heads were also separated objects and not "within" the table head areas.Methinks I may have to stay with InD for this kind of work. SHUCKS! Attached is source InD (CS6) doc, PDF created from same, and .afpub file result. Any ideas? Thanks. Any progress on importing InDesign IDML files? I've tons of ID docs that I'd love to port over. I've tried object cut and pasting sometimes, but does not work, i.e., a text block of several lines in InD comes over as individual lines, not as a paragraph block. Hopefully, IDML will be supported soon? PULEEZE? ;-)

THANKS TONS MIKE! Trying to justify dumping InDesign... Wish there was an IDML import filter in Afinity Publisher!

How to define spot colors when PMS colors are required by customer? Thanks.

Is there any way to 'fill' a text block, i.e., I have ten lines of type that I want to keep in a certain size, say all 12 point, but I want the leading to expand so that the text automatically fills the entire block.

My days of manipulating em's & en's are rapidly coming to an end; been in the typography business since the 50's... Started out distributing foundry type in the California job cases during summer at my Dad's shop in Philly. Went through the IBM Selectric kick of the 60's, the Compugraphic Unified Composer kicks of the 70's, the Bedford RTCS of the 80's, and the Apple/PageMaker kick of the 90's. Fooled with Quack Depressed also in the 90's. Getting tired of Adobe. Hope to experience Publisher before the end comes due.

Any sign of the new dtp app? Looking for good excuse to dump InDesign.

Is it possible to taper the end of a line segment? For example, if I have a a curved line that's 6pt wide and want it to go from 6 pts down to 1pt in width, starting about a quarter of the lengths distance from the end, how to do this? I can do in Illustrator using Astute plugins (width scribe)... but am doing more in Affinity and would like to be able to do this if possible. Thanks.
