  1. Here's a potential tip/workaround: If you want to use Designer for the main file and also have Publisher, create and style the text and text frame in Publisher then paste into Designer. You won't be able to edit the stroke/fill of the text frame but can edit and re-style the text, as well as resize the frame (ie anything that you would otherwise be able to edit in Designer). If you convert to curves then, yes, you can edit the stroke/fill but will have separate elements and non-editable text. I've not tested this beyond the ability to do it, so if it's is dangerous practice (eg for print production) please post and I'll remove/amend. I can see many reasons for editable text frame attributes being useful within Designer - yes there are workarounds (like grouping) but imagine creating a map with each map label a separate group of two elements... let alone any other styling or control you might want to add to differing instances. However, I also see that there is no bullet-proof logic for how you split up features for vector, raster and text manipulation applications that works for all use cases while keeping application complexity and interface workable. Maybe one monolithic application IS the answer... but that sounds FAR too much like Adobe for my liking! 😉
  2. Thanks @Dan C - yes that clears it up. Apologies for missing the Publisher reference… I didn’t see it hiding in the URL. Time for on-page page headers in the help files me thinks 😊 Another +1 for full integration to Designer then - especially as it has the capability already. Thanks Dan.
  3. Please, anyone - WHERE is the Font Manager? Or is it only available on opening a document that is missing fonts? I see the help docs mention it's under the 'Document menu' ... but I don't see a Document menu in Designer 1.10.0 (Mac).
  4. Another +1 for needing attention on colour pallet aspect of the UI. Like: ever wanted to delete a few swatches that were cluttering your view? Ctrl+click on color > select delete > confirm deletion. Ctrl+click on color > select delete > confirm deletion. Ctrl+click on color > select delete > confirm deletion..... Gets pretty dull pretty quickly. Needs a shift+click to select a range or Cmd+click to toggle a selection to allow for multiple deletion. Even removing (or having the option to remove) the confirm would greatly help. While I'm loving the switch from Adobe I am struggling with some of the real basics that are missing. Meaningful PDFs too for example.
  5. Totally agree regarding leading - should be next to type size, or at least close to. All it needed was a "/" as a separator between fields and all would make sense. As to the initial query on canvas rotation- this functionality can be turned off I believe. At least for OSX Desktop: Preferences > Tools > uncheck "Enable canvas rotation with cmd+scroll wheel."
  6. Just for anyone else struggling here - there is a useful video explaining the difference between CLIPPING and MASKING here: https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/tutorials/photo/desktop/video/318402519/ This was driving me mad though: if you want to do the "dragging over the text" option, make sure you are far enough to the right of the stack layer icon...
  7. Hi all For anyone with the same frustration - an important workaround for this issue... To see what is in your bleed area for a document where clip to canvas is enabled (for whatever reason) use the 'Outline' view to display element edges: View > View Mode > Outline (Cmd+Y by default I believe). This may be very confusing for a complex design, but it does at least show what is there. ------- Major +1 for a "Disable Clip to Canvas and show pasteboard elements with art boards" feature request: displaying bleed area outside of an art board is pretty vital for software that's doing it's best (hooray!) to challenge Adobe. Print is still a fundamental part of communication and bleed is a fundamental part of that. The clip to canvas feature, while great in terms of an uncluttered design view, is flawed. As soon as a document contains more than one art board (page/canvas/content area - not a discussion I want to get into here) the 'clip to canvas' (shouldn't that be "Clip to art board(s)"?) feature is automatically forced upon us with no way to properly see what's there. I assume this comes from a publishing-for-screen bias where bleed is (generally) not a requirement. I am guessing that the feature works the way it does so that NON RECTANGULAR art boards (wow!) can have clipping (from a developer's perspective). If true this would assume that Affinity are expecting non-rectangular screens to be a thing of the near future.... unless Affinity is preparing us for an 'Assembly' app that uses the elements created in Photo and Designer? Or am I missing something?
