CurranJSmith got a reaction from btavares79 in Snapping Rework Affinity Designer
For a long time now I have been frustrated and disappointed in the snapping of affinity Designer. It never seems to work the way I want it to, and is constantly slowing me down in many ways, such as having to think of clever solutions or guide lines around what should be very straights forward and simple snaping functions.
There are to many unique instances to list off the top of my head but ill try to update this post as they occur and would really appreciate others input of their snapping challenges as well. With enough examples Im sure there could be some serious improvements achieved.
    Some examples are...
Group snapping - selecting a group of objects/curves and moving them to snap to others. A rework of this would help make building arrayed patterns much much easier
mid point and tangent snapping - always seems to be finicky and doesn't always work
accurate anchor point snapping - I over snap to and anchor point only to zoom in and find that the anchors of vector line are slightly off.

The 'swatches' button at the bottom which reveals the swatches panel is really unintuitive, as it slides over/replaces the whole colour panel. Why not simply extend the colour panel vertically and display the swatches underneath as it's only possible to have one panel open at a time anyway. It can't be about vertical space as the Pixbay (why?) panel extends the full height, as do the adjustments panel, history panel, etc). The size of the swatches could easily be reduced in the swatch palette, and the 'Swatches' button could easily be repurposed for the swatch group selection.

There is one, unless I've misunderstood what you want.

But there is nothing written about "export". However, you should submit a request to Serif to clarify this, as it may be unnecessarily confusing for users.
However, if the OP is not satisfied with the application, he can return it within 14 days - after all, that's why I wrote my initial post, to make him aware of this possibility.

Clearly you don't get it. You pay the price after they advertise with dxf support. You make your doodle. Want to export it, and find out you need paid subsc for adobe illustrator. For a feature is requesting since the start, that got advertised for V2. And you go about blaming the guy. Just nasty bro.

Errr.. appreciate your comments but my tone is purposefully playful ..I am a customer after all and I've purchased the full set of AF apps twice.
AF is a fantastic alternative to Adobe's absurd price. This is absolutely not in dispute and we love AF for that reason.
However, so many users have been asking for this incredibly simple function for so long - we thought from the marketing this was a stated feature in v2. It's like the coders/management either misunderstood or overlooked we were specifically asking for 'export'.
To truly be the Adobe killer, we all want, these very basic functions must be included. Please AF 🙏

Thousands of your users have been asking for DXF Export in Designer for years
..v2 has been released with import only!
..why is this!??? EXPORT functionality is by far the most useful and necessary workflow for 2D & 3D professionals
..I'm dying over here  ..or is this some kind of trick?

Isnt the swatches panel not useful to transfer your colors to a gradient ?
All colors of the Documen are listet in the top of the Swatches panel
"Recent list". So its possible to transfer them from there into a gradient.
On the other hand, you could also create a palette from the document colors,
also from Images, in the Swatches menu and use this palette then for your gradients.
Swatches menu > Create palette from document

This is just a question of selection technique. Select your image by cmd-click to layer, change selection to outline (or reverse and grow), feather it as you like, add gaussian blur filter.

Let's say I have a portrait and I want to apply a Gaussian blur around the the edges of the image but leave the face un-blurred, how would I do this? Ideally i'm looking for something like the vignette tool where I can change the shape, size and intensity of the effect but instead of applying shadow it's applying the blur. Is there such a tool in AP?

I am not able to do either of these in Mac version. I used this a lot with Indesgin and would really like to see it working here.

When making a selection on the canvas and bringing my mouse down to the bottom,
the document would auto scroll downwards allowing me to make additional selections as and when objects were revealed in view.
Alternatively I used to be able to make a selection and use my mouse wheel to scroll the document.
Both of the above features in the recent Affinity Designer for Windows update have appeared to stopped working V1.8
(just checked and can confirm this has also stopped working in Affinity Photo, however it worked in previous versions for both Photo & Designer)

First, Affinity Designer is beautiful and extremely efficient tool. I like it!

I am doing design and artwork for front panels / operating panels of electric devices and machines. The drawings are available in DXF and / or DWG from Autocad (trademark). What would really speed up my workflow is the option to *import* DXF or DWG files.

Considering that these files can carry very complex information it would be sufficient to be able import only a single layer file or a single layer of such a file. This contains all mechanical data so I can be sure that the artwork will match the target device.

    Adobe Illustrator has this feature.

Export of DXF / DWG files is actually not required for this kind of work.
