awakenedbyowls reacted to PaulEC in Should we expect a better deal on Black Friday?
If it was free, there would still be a backlash from some people. They would want an extra free gift with it as well! 😄

I wasn't calling you out for being wrong - just bringing new information that I find to the table (which is apparently already aware)

awakenedbyowls reacted to henryg in Affinity V2, updates, pricing and no subscription (moved)
Agreed.
I have no problem with the charge for V2, but it doesn't offer enough (anything?) for me to upgrade as a non-professional user. An upgrade path would allow me to choose when/if to upgrade rather than being bulldozed by the 14 December offer date end.

awakenedbyowls reacted to Ali in How long will the introductory offer(s) be on offer?
Serif's Patrick Connor advised forum members NOT to expect any further reductions (i.e. NO Black Friday deals) in another thread.
14 December is quoted here:

awakenedbyowls reacted to Kal in Has V2 fixed Affinity's biggest issues?
Sigh. I thought it would be obvious that this wasn’t a new ‘feature request’. It was a one-off review off the first major upgrade to Affinity‘s ‘pro’ apps, pulling together a bunch of missing features that I happen to think are most important.
Yes, these features have been requested more than once already, over many years. (I’ve linked to some of those discussions). That’s kind of the point—they were things we might have expected to be in V2, and their omission is a signal to me that Affinity’s software designers don’t rate the importance of these things highly.
If this isn’t the place for an overall review and discussion of V2 and its most glaring missing features, how about being a little constructive and telling me where the right place is? I did look at all the options, and the ‘Feedback for the Affinity V2 suite of products’ certainly seemed like the best fit.

You need to turn on the option to rotate canvas in all tools in Preferences🙂

@awakenedbyowls Serif advised they will support v1 for security updates and issues due to changes in the OS. I don’t remember exactly how they worded it or where I read it… you may want to check the Affinity FAQ page to see if it’s stated there.

Another good reason not to take the leap to V2, bugs. Unfortunately, developers get itchy to release a new version before they should. V1 should have reached its pinnacle bug free and then V2 should have come out. That's how to impress your current users and draw in even more. Many years ago I worked for a huge German based software company here in the states. Whenever, they released a new update or version, here in the US we would hold back before releasing it here. It was always buggy and the German base would tell us that in Europe they wanted the newest, bugs and all. You could not do that here. US customers wanted it to work without any problems. I don't know what the mindset it at Affinity but besides the reasons I stated in my post along with unstable software, I'll stick with V1 for now and hope they at least clean it up.

Ldina, you have made many great points! I too stopped at CS6 of Adobe and have just used it since. Plus have tried some open source along the way. I was really happy to find Affinity. Now however, not being backward compatible is a deal breaker. On my iMac I can only run V1. On my MacBook V2 is no problem but I need to do between the two and if V2 won't at least do a save to a V1 file for that purpose or a format that will, what's the point of upgrading! I suppose depending on what you are doing, you could save or export a print ready PDF to include everything possible but you'll still lose something. I kinda tried that with a file I created in InDesign and then opened the PDF in Publisher V1. I could modify/edit everything but layers were lost. It wasn't a big deal fortunately and worked out.
I would think it's in Affinity's best interest to rectify or come up with a viable solution. Don't become another Adobe!

No backwards compatibility is serious issue! You can save some documents via Copy & Paste, but I cannot imagine, I do it with 256 pages... :(

awakenedbyowls reacted to MikeTO in No backwards compatibility??
Tip: You can generally copy from v2 to v1 via the clipboard which might help. you in some cases. Just don't copy any v2-specific features.

awakenedbyowls reacted to dominik in Why are some of the Adjustments NOT being added as Layers in Photo?
Check 'Settings > Assistant' and there set 'Adding adjustment layer to selection:' to 'Add adjustment as new layer'.
This should work as you are asking for.

awakenedbyowls reacted to walt.farrell in Settings for Vector Brush Tool?
The Stroke panel/studio is in the same place in Windows as it was in V1. And also in the same place on the iPad, I think.
But if you were talking about brush editing, that's different, and you now have that answer, too

awakenedbyowls reacted to Lee_T in Settings for Vector Brush Tool?
Hi awakened by owls,
To edit a brush on iPad, click tap the brush icon on top right of the interface, once you have selected the brush you wish to edit, swipe left on the brush to reveal a menu which includes the edit option. (shown here on photo but it's essentially the same).
The process is similar on desktop, click the brushes tab in your studio (if not visible, enable it in the View menu at the top of your screen).
You can double click or right click > edit to edit brushes.

You don't need to publish anything. But you'll get many typographical features that are not available in ADe or APh.

awakenedbyowls reacted to Scapa in Searching for "Affinity Designer" on the Apple Store
@stokerg I don't want to tell you how to run your business, but quiet honestly - as posted here - forcing the user to enter the "2" (version number) to their search term in order to find what they are looking for WITHOUT having to scroll to entry 52 (Photo) or even higher (Designer) - which I doubt many will do, if any - is both lost (gain of) market share and missed revenue. In fact you are pushing potential clients towards the completion - which rank much higher for what should be YOUR search term!
Again, that's not our (users) call, but being a developer myself I can't see why I would take that hit.
I hope this doesn't sound rude in any way - at least it's not meant to!

awakenedbyowls reacted to Scapa in AppStore Ranking/Marketing
I think you should look into this:
When I search for "Affinity Photo" in the German Mac AppStore, Photo appears in Row 26! Each Row consists of 2 entries so Affinity photo is entry number 52!!! for the exact search term. Even worse, Designer (phrase: Affinity Designer) arrives at Row 31 (first columns) so that makes it for entry 61 if I'm not mistaking. Publisher is an easy win as there are only 3 entries.
It's only when I search for "Affinity Photo 2" (so including the version number), that I'll get each product on the first place. I highly doubt many users will add the version number to their App Store search term, though. Many may leave the AppStore frustrated.

Sorry I don't know where else to put this thread
I just went on the Apple Store to look for the new Affinity apps and I did a search for "Affinity Designer" and what the search filters throw up?
Adobe + other graphic designs apps. No Affinity! Nothing. Nada.
You guys at Serif know about this?
Did this happen because I already have Affinity on my iPad?
Still doesn't seem right because I was searching for the 2.0 apps. These can be found through a more specific search though like "Affinity Designer 2 for iPad". I could speculate another reason why I think this happened..
Anyone else seeing this when they do this search?

awakenedbyowls reacted to HMG in Publisher V2 files not openable in V1
I've been using Affinity Publisher as part of my role in a large mainly volunteer based organisation. We often share files for others to adapt and re-use. It's a big thing to ask all the volunteers to pay for the upgrade, it would be so much better if my colleagues could pay to upgrade as and when they can. But while V2 files can't be opened by the V1 app, we will either all have to stay on V1 or all move to V2.
Is there any chance that there could be an option in V2 to save files in a V1 compatible format? This would make a huge difference.

It is. Loads of people complaining about what is a very generous launch offer for V2!!! 😁

Sure: you can import or place JPG files made from any program. I assume you could also place V1 documents in V2 documents.

awakenedbyowls reacted to LondonSquirrel in Searching for "Affinity Designer" on the Apple Store
I think @awakenedbyowls point is that if you do a search for Affinity Designer you do not get Affinity Designer in the top results. Instead you get CorelDraw, Vectornator, VisualDesigner, Canva, Tutorial for Affinity Designer, QuarkXpress, Graphic and then tada Affinity Designer 2. It's a fair point.
Affinity, you should take this up with Apple. It is as though Affinity Designer does not exist. If you searched for Ford Escort would you expect every other brand to be listed in the results first?
-
awakenedbyowls reacted to fde101 in Searching for "Affinity Designer" on the Apple Store
It should really show up without needing to type the "2" - as it was a very new release I had initially assumed the App Store indexing was still catching up.
Sometimes new releases take a while to start showing up in the search results, much as updates don't always get listed in the "Updates" section for everyone at the same time.
However, it does seem like it has been long enough by now?
