awakenedbyowls reacted to JimmyJack in Applying Transparency Gradient To Pixel Layers? (V1 & V2)
I think you missed my "Side Note" above (added it after).
This is with opposing fades....
Sky uses Trans Tool (or it could just be a simple gradient), Stars use a mask.

Yes that's what I'm seeing - or it sounds like it - but it tends to happen more on larger files
It also seemed to cut some of the shadow out as though the hidden rectangle layers I attached by accident were in front
Seems quite glitchy - but I have achieved a nice shadow effect with this feature now. I hope they can fix these issues because it doesn't seem very good as it stands and I would expect more for my buck if going forward. Seem to be a lot of bugs being highlighted so far so the question is will bugs be a regular feature going forward or will we get something a bit more alpha in the near future? Crashy apps no good to me - I have two crashes in the past week but nothing serious and no major work lost

By "misleading" I meant that a quick look at the screenshot may look like it's the green object that's selected when its the untransformed version of the black object (which is a duplicate of the green one and is located right below it) that is selected. I understand you left the green there for illustration purposes, my apologies.

awakenedbyowls reacted to MEB in Mesh Layers not exporting to JPG
Hi @awakenedbyowls,
This is by design. You can't edit the deformed "version" of the object transformed by the warp group directly, you can only edit the original object itself. If you need to edit the nodes of a transformed object (by a warp group) you have to convert it to curves. Of course at this point the warp group cease to exist and the object becomes just a regular path.
Note that your screenshot its a bit misleading. When you selected the transformed curve layer (black) what's being highlighted is not the respective green object but the original/untransformed black object's curves - try to delete the entire green group and you will see the path and nodes (no fill) of the untransformed black version still appears there. You can actually see it (including its fill colour in you select the warp group layer and tick Mute Mesh in the context toolbar.

Go to Layer's panel menu and tick Show Group Thumbnails.

awakenedbyowls reacted to markw in Mesh Layers not exporting to JPG
It looks to be somehow connected to Groups.
If you take the blue Group and the Warp Group out of any grouping the shadows start working correctly again within the file and on Export.
I also tried copy & past into a new file to see if that made a difference but got the same results.
Screenshot is from your 5000x5000 test file.

Hi @awakenedbyowls,
I confirm this is happening here too. The 500x500 file does export correctly but I'm seeing just part of the shadow on canvas in Designer. The bigger files both display part of the shadown on canvas and failt the export. I'm logging this to be looked at.

Sorry. I got your file confused with another one. I opened it in V2, not V1.

Always wondered what that thing in the centre of objects was for? (in Adobe too) Cheers!
-
awakenedbyowls reacted to ashf in Flip/Rotate across/around Selected Anchor Point?
You can use the Transform Origin.
https://affinity.help/designer2/en-US.lproj/pages/Tools/tools_move.html
Though for flipping it, you have to use the mouse.
(You resize the object toward negative direction)
Or vote for this for easier flipping.

awakenedbyowls reacted to Old Bruce in Snapping on V2
Hmmm... I usually start with my "All Off" custom preset and turn on things.

awakenedbyowls reacted to Aammppaa in Snapping Nodes to Nodes on other Layers/Objects
I tend to find that having turned on most of the snapping options, I rarely need to touch them, and mostly leave it turned on.
I do agree it can be confusing. I wish the Snapping options were all in one place rather than half in the drop down, and half in the Pen tool.
I also wish it was a proper panel that could be arranged like the other panels, and left open for easy access.
As for snapping to nodes... Do look at the snapping options in the Pen tool itself.
Snap—Controls node snapping: Align to nodes of selected curves—will horizontally or vertically align any node you drag to any other node on the same or a different curve. Snap to geometry of selected curves—will snap dragged nodes to the same or different curve's path (or node). Snap all selected nodes when dragging—will snap multiple selected nodes, when dragging, to a "target" node on any selected curves. Align handle positions using snapping options—will snap a control handle using any of the snapping criteria currently set in Global snapping, e.g. to grid, guide, object geometry, key points, spread, margin, etc. Perform construction snapping—allows control handle snapping: inline with adjacent node. to 90° from inline. to reflected angle with adjacent control handle. parallel to adjacent control handle. 90° to parallel control handle. to logical triangle. These options are independent of the global snapping options.

Do you have “Snap to object bounding boxes” and the inner “Include bounding box mid points” turned ON in the Snapping settings?
-
awakenedbyowls reacted to MEB in Finding the center of a shape
Hi @awakenedbyowls,
Do you have Snap to shape key points enabled in the Snapping options? This also lets you snap specifically to the center of the circle (shape) if you are snapping nodes (rather than using its bounding box midpoints).
-
awakenedbyowls reacted to Aammppaa in Snapping Nodes to Nodes on other Layers/Objects
From the help...
Snap to shape key points—when checked, objects can be aligned to key points on shapes, such as the start and end of a rounded corner. Snap to object geometry—when checked, curves can be snapped to vertices and not simply to the bounding box or key points. Vertices are object corners or intersections, such as the points of a star, within a shape's bounding box. Not as explicit as it could be, but certainly seems that nodes are considered part of the geometry rather than key points.

Hi @awakenedbyowls,
A few suggestions...
I replied yesterday to a similar query about drawing a cylinder, with my preferred method, so I'll link you to that.
You may also consider saving a cylinder as an asset, if it is something you need frequently, to save time and effort in the future.
Regarding snapping...
So far as I am aware there have been no changes between v1 and v2.
Why doesn't the top of the ellipse count as a Shape Keypoint?
No idea! Sounds like it should, but it is no different in v1 compared to v2.
Remember that there are more snapping options in the context toolbar of the Pen tool.
If you enable Snape to Nodes of Selected Curves, and then have the ellipse selected at the time when you want to snap to it, the nodes are visible, and do act as snapping targets.
Also, be slightly wary about snap to Geometry, as that makes the entire edge snappable, so you may not hit the very top point.
Hope these thoughts help.

awakenedbyowls got a reaction from Alfred in Setting iPad to default to V1 when opening files?
Oh yes that's it - SHARE! Because if I want to open a file in a program then that's defined as "sharing" the file 🤦♂️ who the hell at Apple comes up with these alternative wordings?
I remember a while ago now trying to figure out how to open files the equivalent way of Right Click > Open With and since I hardly ever opened files this way on my iPad I ended up forgetting how to do it - then (again) when I go looking and I see Share it makes me think of Sharing on social media or something. Can't we just have some sort of standard user language classification for Operating Systems like in Science?
I think they also do this to discourage people from switching platforms - so we basically have to spend our lives constantly being irked by all the various companies arranging their software as different as possible to their competitors because they want to hold on to their market base through ethically questionable stealth marketing strategies.
Thanks Alf

awakenedbyowls reacted to Alfred in Setting iPad to default to V1 when opening files?
Probably because the file extension is the same. Can’t you used the ‘Share’ options to open them in version 1?
If all else fails, copy the file and use ‘New From Clipboard’ in the version 1 app.

awakenedbyowls reacted to Ash in Save options for Affinity Designer iPad
Unfortunately we had an issue with Save within the document burger menu which had the potential to cause some serious issues. We took it out in 2.0.2 as saving from live docs was the safe solution. We plan to put it back once we figure it out.
Generally I will say that auto save is very robust on iPad because of the way the file system works on iPadOS - in preferences you can chance the auto save interval to as frequently as 30 seconds.

awakenedbyowls reacted to jeffreydevey in Save options for Affinity Designer iPad
I am confused by the removal of "Save" and "Save As" from the menu options within the open document. Saving work often should be part of every user's workflow, and having to exit the document to do that is cumbersome. Does Affinity Designer have an autosave feature on the iPad to recover unsaved data in the event of the app crashing? Perhaps the reason behind the decision to move the menu options can be clarified.

awakenedbyowls reacted to BigGandalf in Affinity V2, updates, pricing and no subscription (moved)
Some people on here can't understand or don't want to understand. If you purchased a data plan with unlimited data, then all of a sudden they tell you, oh yh it's not unlimited, nothing is unlimited in life, that is misleading. I was sold on misleading info on the understanding that I'd have at least a couple of years of full updates. I've only had this app 6 months and now I won't get my full updates. This app was the easier option for me, it was either this app or gimp, but gimp we have to install a bunch of addons to make it just as good, if not better. So I thought I'd save myself some time and go with affinity. Now with all this licencing and they did mention about a subscription based affinity, it seems it's definitely on the cards in the future because that's where the money is, if they do go that way which I think they will, then I'd guess they and the fanboys will blame it on us as an excuse to why they went subscription based. Yh go ahead and blame it's customers. You lot are blind and follow like sheep. The fanboys of affinity.
As for the customer service, what customer service, where is it, it seems like a laughing stock of a company. Too many are way too laxed and sleepy to not see what's really going on.
The old timers on here obviously will feel there looked after because they have been, it's only the new comers like myself that are left to the wayside by the Devs.
They even admitted that they mislead us, but they are not fixing this to make it right.
I can't believe that some of you old timers can't even spot bad customer service and see the tone in which they speak. So because you've been looked after, forget about those who've been given the hard shoulder eh.
Now I won't get full updates, you have to stand by what you believe to be right. I've been mislead, all I ask is for this company to do the decent thing and fix it. Then it'll be problem solved, but I don't believe they will as some new comers I believe would have paid again and they wouldn't want to be out of pocket by refunding them.
Affinity Photo doesn't look like a bunch of roses like it used to.
