Never had an issue with AdGuard and used it for a number of years now, the alternative is Jens Laptop lol! (IT Crowd Reference) but each to their own. I also use Brave Browser which has "Shields" a kind of a built in ad-blocking system, it's pretty good at it too.
Anyway we digress, a lot of these "free" font sites use demo fonts, or give you some of the typefaces font family but not all of them, some fonts are clones of established fonts, so almost identical but not quite. So you take a punt and get some but not necessarily all of the typeface font options.
I use some of the add-ons on my old computer but they're not coming anywhere this one
For a few letters it's easy enough also to make up my own variation on whatever fonts by just laying a few dots down so I'll probably do that and then I'm probably covered for copyright issues

How can it be misconstrued? Well, you might think it was something to do with hamburgers!
That’s exactly the point. Unlike ‘Affinity by Serif’ or any other collection of real words, it isn’t supposed to mean anything: it’s just a useful test ‘word’ for assessing the suitability of a font, since it contains all of the essential forms in a Latin alphabet.
Do you really feel like you're making valid points there ?
The purpose of "Affinity by Serif" has been established Yes as I previously indicated - the wording threw me - there really isn't anything more to this and whatever analogy you are trying to make with hamburgers is just pointless bickering

Perhaps something more neutral like Hamburgefonstiv could have been used instead — but that can be misconstrued, too!
How?
I'm just reading Hamburgefonstiv and I've no idea what it means - in any context - it doesn't mislead me into thinking the font is by Serif though
I have a point - not so sure about you there though

the site pushes you to envato market, the download button gives you a token bewicked-1 font if you deny access to envato market. I use adguard which rocks.
I stopped adding the adblockers I'm very wary of any of these third party add-ons and think sometimes over time they can screw with your settings - rather just put up with the ads and if the page starts to looks too much like a Shanghai brothel then I just close and never go back

Screenshot below of a small part of the forum thread, and it does not say the Metropolis 1920 font is by Serif. Sample text in each font includes "Affinity by Serif":
Attached is a PDF of the web page that loads in Safari browser when I click on the provided link for Metropolis 1920 font. There Is absolutely no "spamvertising" or 'click bait' in the page on my Mac. Maybe you have malware on your computer. There is an unmissable (in my opinion) download button in the page.
Why does it mean I have malware on my computer if I click on a link and I'm presented with a clusterfreak of flashing rectangles all over my screen ? No I think what that is is a junk website
I looked at those examples and I see that "Affinity by Serif" is just there to illustrate the type - but nonetheless it's slightly misleading to be presenting the list of fonts like that - should have picked something else - at a first glance it can easily be misconstrued as being a font designed by Serif

I'm astounded by how this thread went from somebody innocently asking for retro sci-fi font recommendations, to how to use the internet (forums, google, security, etc)?!
BTW in addition to my original comment above, there seems to be a number of sci-fi fonts available via Envato, which tends to be a pretty good (and trusted) resource for creative assets.
I'm going back to only coming here for bug reports only.
It weren't my idea to start this thread mate 😆
I'm going to look into all the advice being offered from folk though so many thanks to all for whatever contribution you offer

Define safe sites, as in nowadays IT and the whole internet there's usually nowhere something like an absolute warranty of safetiness, despite whatever some sites or people might tell you here!
I was hoping to find a degree of security from somewhere recommended by someone - but clearly I'll just have to take my chances

There's that and there's gaining information from trusted sources
I don't find that I trust the content Google returns to me after a search much these days - but it has it's uses
The question was however what are some safe sites to use not where to look for them - but thanks all the same 👍

Sure it will:
Just click on "Display as link instead" after pasting it, as mentioned above by@Alfred
You're not listening to me - I tried that - I just tried that again - it embeds it anyway - then when I click on it to delete it it opens up a new tab and takes me to the link - have to click on the X in the corner and then when I was doing that the screen was going all wonky and I had to refresh - like there was some dotted line I couldn't get rid off
Maybe it's the browser I'm using (Edge) but this is not me not knowing how to post a link

When you paste the link, you should see a popup message saying
Click on ‘Display as a link instead’ to make it look like this:
https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/55752-curated-list-of-free-for-commercial-use-fonts/I know how it works forums isnae my first rodeo - it's just this page won't embed in any other way than this

I am probably stating the obvious but Serif Font describes the characteristics of a font see Sans-serif / Serif differences :- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serif
It has nothing whatsoever to do with the company called Serif that makes Affinity products :- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serif_EuropeI figured that out yeah - not sure what "by Serif" means though on that thread I mentioned - how can a font be designed by the style or font category it's from ?
Badly worded
-
If anyone knows any good places to look - I'm not sure about some of these free font websites
I found a good one on this thread which I'm going to hopefully post as plain text now and it will stop embedding some giant animated thumbnail !!!!!?
(just had to refresh the page three times and rewrite all this)
The thread is called Curated List of Free Commercial Use Fonts and sorry but this platform is refusing to let me copy a link in in a sensible form - so why don't I just post the link to the font on there called METROPOLIS 1920 by Serif
Metropolis 1920 - Download Free Font (befonts.com)
It just links to some spamvertising click bait website where I can't even see a link to download the font - only what looks like a link that is probably going to take me to some other garbage webpage I'd rather steer clear of
Is this really a Serif Font and if so is it available directly from Serif maybe ?

In other words, if you save a Package to a certain folder on a network drive, which both your PC and iPad have access to, then you should be able to use the Package on both devices.
That's what I thought was being said - not sure why the segway into highlighting the need for access to storage location though which ultimately confused me there

Difficult to know what to suggest as an alternative since we don’t know what you are using it with, or what sort of message you are trying to convey, or what your audience is.
(This thread looks like it could have started to go off on a bit of a tangent, since we’re no longer talking about missing fonts. Maybe another thread could be started just for this new question.)
I was just hoping for a few suggestions and not an in depth discussion - the question is specific to my needs on this project so it doesn't really warrant a thread of it own in my view since it probably won't be of interest to anyone else specifically
It's for a tour poster for a band - I don't want to say too much but I was aiming for something to reflect 1950's sci-fi animation - a flying saucer attack perhaps ? no it isn't for The Rezillos and no the band haven't asked me to do this it will probably just always be Fan Art
Put it in a new thread if the site rules dictate - I guess maybe a new thread in an forum more to do with art as opposed to art software might be a better place to ask - or I could just have a look around the internet myself ?
If anyone can link me up or recommend a site for downloading fonts that's legit and safe then I'd appreciate - although I think someone may have already done that in some post above..

Alternatively, you could save your Publisher file as a Package, and open the .afpackage file on your iPad if the storage location is accessible over the network. This will provide access to any fonts and images used in the file.
Never heard of that - sounds maybe useful but what do you mean about Storage Location are you saying I access it from a different location or what do you mean there ?
Sounds like it's tempted fate also - I can work with current workarounds no bother so anything like this at this stages seems not really worth the bother
-
Does anyone really use or like Ravie Font ?
Sounds like a Scottish Jazz Club Singer 🤪
I picked it as it fitted in with the general oeu·vre of the piece I'm working on - but if there are any alternatives out there anyone can recommend I could look at ?
Just not 100% happy with it - more 80%

-
Whatever - My Bad for not understanding how fonts work
It's not anything that will cause a massive problem since fonts can be added at any stage and they can be converted to curves also

Where did you hear that “one of the selling points that convinced me to buy the full V2 suite on offer was the range of fonts I would be able to use on Publisher”?
Some thread on here - I don't remember perhaps I misinterpreted someone
As it is and I'm not saying there isn't any but for my personal uses I have yet to find a use for Publisher than I can't do on Designer
-
I thought I was getting unique fonts with Publisher - is this not the case then?

Which app, specifically, is a “Third Party App that comes with it's own Fonts”?
I mentioned the standard OS fonts because you said you hadn’t installed any yourself.
If you haven’t installed any fonts then the fonts you have will either have come with the OS or been installed along with an application.Well forgive me if I have this wrong but one of the selling points that convinced me to buy the full V2 suite on offer was the range of fonts I would be able to use on Publisher - so I was told when I asked last year and that this was one of the features that made Publisher worth having - but I've seen nothing new on that front since I started using it and now this

Hi @awakenedbyowls,
If you have the original .OTF/.TTF font file you can import these into your iPad app via Settings > Fonts menu.
Not all platforms have the same default fonts, for example MacOS has a different set of default fonts to Windows. From looking online there appears to be many font sites offering 'Ravie' as a free .TTF/OTF download.
So you're saying to transfer a text with a certain font over from Windows to iPad I have to download a free file from a third party site and add it to the iPad version ?
Got to be honest there were a few minor annoying inconsistencies in the functionality between the iPad and Windows - maybe I'm somewhat unique insofar as I work between Win and iPadOS whereas most others probably work between MacOS and iPadOS - but certainly I think some better thought needs to go into standardising the functionality of these apps across platforms
If I can download these missing fonts and add them then why don't the developers just add them for me/us ?
I'll convert to curves and get round it that way - I don't have time to learn new under the hood tricks I just want an app that works across platforms

Microsoft and Apple install (mostly) different fonts with their operating systems; they have different licencing agreements with the font foundries/suppliers.
(I have Windows 10 and don’t have the “Ravie” font installed so, unless you have installed it, something else possibly did, maybe another application.)
This is a Third Party App that comes with it's own Fonts - I don't see what standard fonts that come with the OS's have to do with it

Thank you ! I recently picked this word up from some radio journalist I listen to and I WAS looking for the correct spelling but obviously didn't quite find it..
