Screen Protector or Not?
awakenedbyowls replied to awakenedbyowls's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on iPad Questions
Hasn't it always been a thing? People share photos on their phones via Bluetooth. It's a handy technology if there happens to be no internet. There are no ports on the iPad to insert portable storage devices, I'm not sure iPads or iPhones have ever had this functionality - which makes Bluetooth all the more important for file transfer. Apple don't want their customers to use any other computer technology apart from theirs though.. -
Cheers DM1 I might look into that. So far as some of the issues I had earlier today I have managed to resolve most of them. I got rid of all the unwanted iCloud photos, eventually - although I had to delete them (some way I eventually found) several times because they kept coming back, or at least most of them did. There was another folder somewhere where you could permanently delete the 30 day quarantined files as well. I got there with that in the end. As for iCloud not auto-backing up files from my iPad - I found in the end that I can just copy and paste them from my iPad to the iCloud folder in Files. So there is a way to do this, just no way to do this if I happen to have no internet! Still looking for a Windows app that can maybe facilitate this..

Dropbox you say? iCloud is a verifiable, incoherent mess! I can't rely on this ****? I can upload files from my PC to the iCloud and down to my iPad - no problem! It doesn't want to back up any of my AD files the other way though. No use to me that is. I'm really considering sending this tablet back to the store. Shockingly bad set up. I read Apple's software has really gone downhill recently? I'd say that's about right, in fact I don't really think it was ever all that.

How dumb is this software? Worked out how to download all the photos I wanted rid of to my iPad, but I had to log into iCloud.com through Safari. Then when I downloaded the zipfile it started reuploading to iCloud! So I waited for that and then deleted the zipfile from iCloud. The photos I want rid are still showing in Photos but not taking up data. And when I turned back on Photos to continue uploading my photos it came up with a warning saying they would be deleted in 30 days unless I download them or something. It's saying iCloud Photos is disabled on iCloud.com but on my iPad it's saying it's turned on? So I have no idea. Utterly incoherent nonsense from the so-called software Gurus at Apple again. I've just spent the past day so far concentrating on nothing other than getting this fixed, something that should be entirely straightforward. EDIT - I found another way to select all and delete these photos and they're still there. WHAT DO I NEED TO ****ING DO TO GET RID OF THESE ****ING PHOTOS!!!!"

I know Bluetooth isn't good for large amounts of data, but it would be handy for sending .afdesign files <100MB back and forth - especially if there's no internet. Got to grips with iCloud anyway now, but I will be probably switching to Dropbox. Thing is about Apple they have really weird ways of doing things, and I'm never 100% sure what I'm doing. I'm trying to get rid of 1GB of my mum's photos which ended up in my iCloud and I've downloaded them all to my PC now and selected Disable And Delete which is now telling me I have 30 Days to download before the all disappear. So what if I just want them gone now and turned Photo back on for myself - I have to wait 30 days? I can't just delete them all from within the iCloud.com page - this is the only way. Why do Apple design their software like this??? It's saying it's because the photos aren't downloaded to my iPad so I'm trying to figure out how to do and I can't see. So I can download and then have them instantly removed from the iCloud hopefully and then delete them from my iPad. It's telling me I need to have them on my iPad but not offering me any way to do that!

I've only had this new iPad a day and already I hate Apple (again) dismayed to find this isn't turning out to be as straightforward as I expected. No way to transfer files between the two OS via Bluetooth. No way to upload files from my Windows PC to the iCloud - what exactly is the flipping point of the iCloud for Windows app then! Apple can suck my courgette. Before I finally decide on whether this iPad is going straight back is there another way? The guy on the phone from Apple said Windows might have 3rd party apps for Bluetooth file transfer. Utterly ridiculous that I need to look into that option because this should be basic, standard functionality. EDIT: This guy on the phone at Apple has given me the wrong information. I just found a way to upload files to the iCloud, via the website. So there is a way to do it via iCloud!

Screen Protector or Not?
awakenedbyowls replied to awakenedbyowls's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on iPad Questions
I really like the Apple Pencil - especially the Scribble feature. But if I can't get this thing to perform basic, simple functions like sending or receiving files via bluetooth or the iCloud then it's going back. These are basic, standard functions! I only went back to Apple for the option to take with my work with my on the go - and an iPad was my best option for that. -
Screen Protector or Not?

Must say the Apple Pencil runs nice and smooth over the screen. Maybe there is an argument for using the screen covers that feel like paper though? How often do I need to change the nib? If it wears down can it become rougher on the screen? -
IPad Frustration
awakenedbyowls replied to fjunk's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on iPad Questions
I just connected my bluetooth keyboard to it and was able to use it with the shortcut keys - no issues there. Trying to work out how to send files from my PC to my iPad via Buetooth (or vice versa) on the other hand.. Or find any use at all for the iCloud for Windows app!!!! I remember years ago trying to work between Windows and Apple, and how much it raised my blood pressure. -
Just picked up my iPad 9th gen and it allowed me to get Affinity Photo through Family Sharing, but it wants me to pay £19.49 for Designer? This app should also be available through Family Sharing. Maybe I need to ask Apple, but I thought I'd ask here first: is there a new version out that means it's no longer available through Family Sharing or something that's not set right on the other end of the sharing? I would have though ON or OFF were the only two setting there: If it's turned ON then I should have access to all app bought through other account?

Is it not possible to use a bluetooth keyboard with Affinity on the iPad - with all the usual shortcut keys? -
Just waiting on my new iPad 9th Gen - which I got on a mint deal through Sky. I was originally going to just go for the WiFi version, but they're offering a cellular one on a 4 year interest free plan + 100MB of data per month and unlimited calls and texts for no additional cost. Should I have a screen protector on for using the Apple Pencil with it? It's made of glass should in principle it shouldn't scratch (unless I start carving into it with a sharp knife or something) Not sure whether I should have spent a bit more and gone for the iPad Air (which is also a much more stylish looking tablet) but the interest free deals on Sky take the overall price up to about £750 which is more than twice what I was originally going to spend. I'm in sRGB space with my HP Monitor and decent graphics card so it might make more sense to stick with that. I'm not sure how much better the gamut would be with the Liquid Retina Wide Colour Display (P3) - as opposed to the older Retina sRGB ones that are still on the basic iPad range?

Quick query. Not sure where to ask or search for an answer to this. Does anyone know what this window that keeps popping up when I click on layers in the layer panel with my XP-Pen? It's just started doing this recently. I don't know if it's a Windows setting, and if it is I don't know how to turn it off.

Bit of a mouthful of a title, and maybe this feature already exists? It's certainly possible to do anyway in a roundabout way. If only I'd had the foresight in my current design to separate layers out within clipped objects, so that altering the colours in my design is possible later. Rather than adding all the coloured effects into the one layer.. This of course involves creating multiple transparent layers of the object in question, and then later adding all the separate clipped layers into the same group within the object - which is somewhat laborious. If the software maybe (like with Vector Pen stroke) just created a separate layer for each stroke in Pixel Mode then they could all be grouped together later as desired, and any unwanted stroke deleted - this would remove the need for creating multiple transparent layers while experimenting to get the right effect. Maybe there is already a way to do this.. I'm asking because I created an effect for a design which looked good and then I wanted to experiment with different colours, only some of the clipped layers comprise both black and the colour. Is there a workaround to this maybe? I've tried using the eraser but it didn't work. Also tried recreating the same effect without success so far..

So I just realised that the scroll wheel on my XP-Pen wasn't rotating the canvas (in Pixel Mode) as I had previously set it to do. A while back I noticed the Rotate option in the Pentablet settings wasn't working, so I devised a workaround to this by assigning shortcuts to Rotate Left and Right and then Customising them in the Pentablet settings. The reason (I just worked out) the scroll wheel wasn't rotating the canvas in Pixel mode was because the shortcuts I assigned in Designer mode (for some reason) weren't assigned in Pixel Mode. It's working now though because I assigned the same keys in Pixel mode to Rotate Left and Right. It seems you have to set keys in each mode separately, for some reason? I'm not sure if this affects any keys I set.

I'm using a Brush with a Pressure Curve applied to it in the Brush Settings but it's turned off on the toolbar option (can't remember what it's called). If I turn that on it doesn't do it. I guess maybe I have to turn that off in the Brush Setting as well then? I don't really understand why there are two ways to turn Pressure Mode on and off, and you can have Velocity Mode on in Brush Settings and Pressure Mode on on the toolbar, I'm confused as to how that all works..

Smart Nodes. Roger that 👍 I know it's a mess but I find creating the objects in some designs this way easier and quicker than using the Pen Tool, and also the result is a design that looks more like it's actually painted than cheaty digital painting. The idea is it's a mess until I convert the objects to fill and then add them to the main blob. I hope Smart Nodes can fix some of the issues I've been having with this feature, lots of issues..

So I've only been at this 10 minutes today and already I'm hitting walls again. Using the Vector Brush tool to trace out shapes and then Expanding the Stroke into a filled object. This technique has worked well for me in general, however this morning I find this mess. Is this happening because I'm drawing the vectors in pressure mode? I don't get it. I thought expand Stroke took the blob of colour that was there as a Vector Brush, in the stroke width shown and makes it into a filled object that looks exactly the same? If it doesn't do that then what exactly is the point or use of Expand Stroke? Why isn't this working?
